There is one emulator that can play PlayStation 2 right on your PC (I don't know if it is true), and the emulator is called PCSX2.

Taken from Wikipedia about PCSX2:
PCSX2 is a PlayStation 2 (PS2) emulator for the Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems. With the most recent versions, many PS2 games are playable (although speed limitations have made play-to-completion tests for many games impractical), and several games are claimed to have full functionality.[1] The main bottleneck in PS2 emulation is emulating the multi-core PS2 on PC architecture. Although each CPU can be emulated well, getting the synchronization and timing between them to be accurate is very difficult.

Just want to ask, is anyone already tried PCSX2 on PC and playing PlayStation 2 on it? Might you don't care if you can share about it?

yeah it can play, but you need to have a display card which is more expensive than a set of PS2 to run smoothly.

The emulator works, but not with all games. Plus you'll be needing at least a Mid-Range Graphics Card and Core 2 Duo Processor in order to play games in good speed.

As long as it has been for PCSX2, it's still W.I.P and if you count the overall costs to play PS2 games on the pc then you'll understand why Zeroize and alwizbthere said it's NOT WORTH IT. That still doesn't count the numerous compatibility problems you have to deal with.

Get the actual console already. Unless your PC is already quite damn powerfull or you just want to test the emulator. *I doubt it, most people only want to play* tongue.gif

You may PM me on how to get the stuff, but i'll never post it here as the PS2 BIOS needed to use the PS2 EMU is illegal to be shared. And i'd probably won't bother teaching so much about the settings as it is a bit troublesome.

The current Branch version of PCSX2 is now known as PCSX2 Playground and is much faster than the old official version.

i did not earn my stars from spamming meaningless for stuffs unrelated to the topic
if you dun like it, feel free to go report my posts
i might be crass, but as a former tester of the emulator, i can say you are better off playing on a consoles
dun be starting a flame war when there's nothing to start off with.
if TS had to resort to using an emulator to play with ps2 games, the time spent solving the problems might as well be spent on his books which will be beneficial to him in the long run

It running. But take this example:

a pc with single core and a couple of gb of ram only runs FFX less than 15fps.

AND... I think the graphic card don't really helps much. But it sides more to RAM and CPU. If you OC your CPU and RAM, I hope they don't burnt running PCSX2... LOL

trust me, it not worth your time to change configuration here and there just to play a PS2 game with an emulator.

If you used the time to earn money, you can earn the money to buy a PS2 and the game u want.

pcsx2 was still in WIP status.
but i tried myself a GTAVCS and it work around 20-30fps with my current rig.
i see some Quadies and 8800gt can play smoothly with that game.

and just now i played Shining Force EXA, and it worked well and not so smooth la. but still fun to play!

at the current performance of the software and the price of ps2 hardware though, i doubt they'll want to complete it unless its more of a personal satisfaction thing.

He is right, go straight for console system. Dont waste time on emulator if you really want to enjoy PS2 games. No emulators ever works flawlessly.. comparing to the real thing. But if your PC really fast and you hav plenty of time to try then giving it a run, do no harm. smile.gif

I just love how people who can afford to buy a state of the art rig but can't afford to get a Playstation 2. No offense , but its better to get PS2 if you just want to play couple of games

It requires a lot of CPU Power as keep in mind , you're emulating the main CPU , the graphics co-processor , vector processors and so on. It needs more RAW CPU Power and GPU Power as well. So if you have a mid-range rig , its not recommended !

Well I do have mine and currently I am playing Kingdom Hearts 2 and it doubles as my media center !

Whats the point of having a rig to emulate a PS2 that cost too much, when you can have a PS2 that cost cheaper?

You get to record your game on the pc to post on youtube as high definition, then crappy quality.

A lot of reason than cannot get a ps2 la. One thing, to play ps2 u need tv as well so the price actually doubled and tripled for flat screen. Then came space. Also the availability of tv (like if ur mom is watching dramas) and privacy (without the prying eye of ur parents when u play *cough XXX game, lol). If u talking about a tv card, that's still in debate as I heard a couple of guys that say u need a really good card = expensive to get it to run smoothly even with ps2 at hand.

PS2 Emulator most likely is an attemp of people to challenge Sony technologies. But for truely supports all games is a nightmare. If you intend to run RACING games with emulator... Woah... I think you already got the money to buy 10x PS2, as people already mentioned.

If you really bored, well you can try. But prepare to handle the LAG~~~

Oh yeah , thought of giving this emulator a shot - I managed to extract ROM from my PS2. It was quite okay and tested it goether with the emulator. I can post some screenshots later of Kingdom Hearts 2.

Not bad , getting around 30-40fps but again its not smooth at all as in there are frame drops every now and then.

Not recommended as its not worth it. Unless you have like Quad Core or i7 with SLI , then yeah its worth it to play some old or exclusive games ! Other then that , no point

Dumping the bios from the console is like extracting it out. The process seems a bit complicated and i didn't bother to do it since you can find loads of ps2 bios on the net if you search diligently. PM me if you really need it, i'd be glad to help.

It's not illegal to dump the PS2 bios as long as you OWN the console. But distributing the bios is of course illegal. The bios is like the firmware for the PS2 *or any other console for the matter*, without it the emulator cannot emulate the game.

FFX is fully playable. FFX-2 on the other hand is also playable but the FMV is not appearing.

Used Gsdx 883 with SSE4 output, make sure enable Logarithmic-Z.

CPU settings = EERec, VU0rec, VU1rec, MTGS enabled.
Use VUSkip
Custom FPS Limit = 60
Skip Frames when lower than = 55
Consecutive frames before skipping = 0
Consecutive frames to skip = 4

Frame skip will prevent massive slow downs for battles, town and music. (Very annoying especially when the music slows down according to the fps on screen, so frame skip for me locks the fps at 60 but choppy abit)

Most crucial of all is that under Advanced, make sure u enable Flush to Zero and Denormals are Zero for both EE Recs and VU Recs. Under VU Recs, Round Mode set to Chop/Zero. If you don't, the battles in Persona 4 will keep looping over and over.

So basically these are my settings that allowed me to finish Persona 4. Gonna start New Game+ soon smile.gif. You can cheat during Arcana Chance using PCSX2 lol.

trust me, it not worth your time to change configuration here and there just to play a PS2 game with an emulator.

If you used the time to earn money, you can earn the money to buy a PS2 and the game u want.

i bought it and ps2 nowadays is really cheap

this emu was created for fun by their codemasters... it's not really a complete alternative to PS2... it's meant for those real technology enthusiasts/freaks who knows wat to do wif it... it's not really for home normal gamers... sweat.gif

console games are never interesting... in fact most of their games annoy me more den entertain me... other than grand turismo series... but 1 title isn't worth the price of a new console + TV... laugh.gif at least for me...

pcsx2 is meant for testing dude. not guaranteed for a full ps2 gaming experience (at least for now)
seriously, the new version really does fast for about 10-15fps gain smile.gif . 2d now isn't a problem for pcsx2. so does for fmv (movie)
