Unisa is a good university? I'm planning to study psychology course in Unisa this Feb. How's the environment [ Adelaide ] there? Safe? Any racism issues there? Kinda worry ;/
*
you are more likely to encounter racism in msia than oz......

Perhaps, he was taking the mickey out of the original poster's use of the word "air reception" instead of the correct term, "airport reception".
*
that is precise what he was doing....... smile.gif

sarcasm can be very subtle....... biggrin.gif

but the correct term then would be air interception.......as to intercept intruding aircraft........ smile.gif

The exchange rates nowadays are getting on and off but at least better than 3.5 last time . Normally would be 2.5 - 2.8 ?
*
it never reached 3.5.........

for the last 5 years, till end of last year, it hovers around 2.7 to 3.1.....in the early 2000's it was 2.0 for much of the time........for the 1st half of this year, it was around 2.3-2.5, and an opportune moment for parents to move funds into AUD..........

Hey guys, I'm in Melbourne. I've just broken my camera. I fell on the floor when I turned it on. I think broke my lence. BTW, my camera is Olympus stylus 810.

Any places do you recommend to repair. Or should I wait and repair it at Malaysia? Just need some opinion.

Thanks
*
consumer electronics are usually not worth repairing.....(unless it is under warrantee, but since you dropped it, not applicable).....the repair cost may be already a significant portion of a replacement camera.........

I am studying my 1st year degree in VU, Sunway and transfer to RMIT during my 2nd & third year.

However, due to the reason that my 1st sem result is lower than the entry requirement which is 60%, am I permitted to transfer to RMIT on the 2nd year of my degree?

like i said many times, oz unis are all about the same, unlike msia where private colleges/uni can be widely different in quality......

people decide based on preference of city, exam results, offers, and i suppose ranking based on the go8, atn and the rest........

you could just tell me curtin and monash are public, i always thought they were private.  unsure.gif

still rather odd that they have kinda expensive course fees, lol.
expensive compared to what???

you are referring to the home campuses, or their overseas campuses in msia??.........

Masters of Accounting - about 33k Monash , Curtin

Masters of Business - 24k UQ

nearly a 10k gap, i thought all gov Unis are regulated to a certain cost standard?
*
1. you are not comparing the same thing.........accounting is NOT the same as business.......

2. you have not specified, but i will presume you are referring to the parent campuses, and price is in aud.......

3. i presume you are an international student, ie NOT a citizen or pr of australia.......international student fees are NOT regulated, ie the uni is free to set their fees........this full fees will include the full actual cost of the course, plus a profit margin, which varies........

some uni capitalise on their reputation and charge a premium........melb u is well known for this......

QUOTE(Grimm @ Sep 1 2009, 07:57 PM)
BTW the high fees charged are basically coz Intl students are paying for the local student's places in these unis. You know, they pay bloody A$ 4k per semester only. Thats one third of what we intl students pay (and no concession summore, stupid victoria).

And then they have HECS. Higher Education C? Scheme or something like that. That means they don't have to fork out a dime now. When they work, their salary gets deducted like $50 a week or something. Fak. 50 bucks a week gets taken out. So what? Their education is bloody free man! Parents only need to think about getting house and car and beers. The student don't have to worry about their parent's financial burden. Go to uni free now. Next time pay 50 bucks out of a salary of $80k.

Damn unfair lo!

I heard of all of this from my local friend.

He's like "How much do you intl guys pay?"

"12k per semester, 25k per year?"

"Holy ****!! 25 grand?! What the hell are you being charged that for? Are you serious?"

"Huh? Is that a lot? Well, if I convert that back to my local currency, its x3, so its like $75k a year"

"..."

He was shell-shocked and went speechless. I guess they don't know we are kinda paying for their uni placements. Then he told me about HECS.
*
No it is NOT free.....nothing in this world is free......

their parents spend their entire working life paying taxes...........a lot of taxes, more than what msians pay.....

when they start working, they will also pay lots of taxes........

almost all unis in oz are public funded, ie they get money from the govenrment, who got money from taxes....every commonwealth supported seat attracts money from the public purse.....but they charge a fraction of the cost of the education (about 1/3) directly from the local students.......this is called HECS (Higher Education Contribution Scheme), now changed to Higher Education Loan Programme (HELP)....this is like a loan, which the student only need to pay back gradually, after their taxable income reaches a threshold, currently at about aud40k/year.........

So education is not free........it comes from the taxes you and your parents pay.......

the same applies to msia, public education......you get free school education all the way to stpm.......and also almost free (you pay a ridiculously small fee) uni education......if you get into public unis.....

however, due to many reasons (inadequate places, bias from nep, perceived poor quality of ipta, lousy courses offered etc) many students, mostly non-malays, choose to go private.......hence you all in oz........and the mushrooming of private colleges in msia..........

but....my parents pay taxes too, you say.......yes they do, but no where as much as the aussies do.....

in any case, you have to decide.......do you want a system where you pay high taxes, and the gov in return provide good social services (education, health, roads, parks, etc).....

or a system where you pay less taxes, but expect to receive less social services.......therefore have to pay for your own private education, health, road tolls etc.........

dunno about you all, but the way msian gov and politicians handle (or mishandle) money, i would rather pay as little taxes as possible, and keep and manage my money privately.......

but in a country like oz, i would also be quite willing to pay high taxes in exchange for good social services........

oic, correct me then laugh.gif i`m just saying the general idea of phasing out, not into details sweat.gif
that is refering to local student, not intl.  doh.gif
just checkout the University in general; not the best in the states or anyhow. Local still surely get into uni by money.

what got to do with Melbourne Model? wink.gif i`m curious? did I mention about it?
Rounded is good, but why not apply it to the High schools? isnt it better? than Unis?

So you are saying that those Asean who go for soft skill gain better level in economics & business by Melb model?
*
you will need to explain that bolded statement......how does locals get in 'by money'.........?

they don't need to pay any fees at all since 2/3 are commonwealth funded, and 1/3 through HECS-HELP?

yea, well sort of that what im referring to. As they get in by commonwealth funding. sweat.gif

you are NOT making any sense.....your implication is that aussie students enter uni by paying money, not on merit........substantiate that...

i am surprise that you are in oz, and am not aware of the details of the education system there.......

hmmmm.......i thought i am the only dense one, for not understanding what kvr is trying to say.......

kvr, you will need to explain yourself better......home students in oz do NOT pay for their education.......it is reimbursed by the fed gov, and hecs.........makes NO difference to the uni who they select, so once the monetary motive is off, they can pick the best candidate.......

@lawl, you have to understand the TYPES of unis.....there are 2 types in the us...the ivy league and the community unis (ie the 'state' unis).....the ivy leagues (and oxbridge) select based purely on merit, and hence they will always rank at the top, as they always have the BEST students.....

on the other hand, community unis is to TRAIN manpower for the workforce, the emphasis is to provide education and training to as broad a population as possible.......hence they will accept people with mediocre results.....after all, all the best students are already in ivy leagues......

now for oz, all the unis are a combination of BOTH types.........thus they have a wide range of calibre of students.........from very good to mediocre......but even then their unis are subdivided into maybe 3 tiers.......

those with good ranking like melb, sydney anu, uq are NOT easy to enter.....go try.....

the middle group like monash, unsw, adelaide, uwa are easier to get in but are still very good unis, ranked within the top world 100.....

below that, there is a big group of community-like unis (many of them were actually polytechnics before) where it is easy to enter.......and they do NOT rank well in league tables......think usq, griffith, latrobe, swinburne etc..........

the other factor is of course, getting in is just one aspect.......continuing and eventually graduating is another thing........and many people drop out in the aussie system......so it's like, they give people chances to try, but will not compromise on performance.......

dude, its kinda stating the obvious about taxes and uni.

plus your ideal for not paying taxes is also flawed in itself.
it is obviously NOT obvious to some people........

where did i say anything about not paying taxes?........
