For laptop, you can try checking out the Logitech S150- it's a 2.0 Multimedia Speaker set that is only low cost (is this good or bad?) but connects to the laptops USB Port and draws power from said USB Port... No need to connect to wall outlet for power...

Note: But of course as you can imagine they are not known for powerful sound.

Old Altec Lansing is good. New Altec low end speakers sound horrible.Only the AL MX5021 is decent but the price tag of RM500++ might not be affordable to everyone.

I've used:

Altec Lansing ACS45.1 (white) <<- Struck by lightning
Altec Lansing ATP3 <---Also struck by lightning
Sonic Gear Armagaedon A5 <--currently using it

I actually prefered to buy Altec but since there is no good speakers at RM150-RM250 range, i had to settle with Sonic Gear. However i do feel that Sonic Gear Enzo series is lacking the punch.

Used ATP3 + Sound Blaster live 5.1 +cap ayam speaker for surround and centre sound = daym nice sound in a small room (around dorm size). Esp for music but not so for movie (voice too soft).

Used a square altec lansing before that fogot what model name.

Own Logitech Z680 & Z5500 with optical & digital interconnect. So far nothing comes close if compare with computer brands multimedia speakers.
