If you are referring to Computer Multimedia Speakers, the pair of speakers of small compact dimensions (roughly 3.5" x 6" x 4" in overall dimensions) ever since called Multimedia Speakers during the time of (jaaa Intel 386XT PC's back in around 1989 and to this day known as such, the best ever is this Make and Model:

No. 1 Best Multimedia Speakers : The Bose Computer Music Monitor

They're made by Bose USA, the worldwide renowned North American speakers manufacturer. If you disagree, then i would doubt if you've actually even had a pair of these. Their sound reproduction quality is clearly way better than, say, the Altec Lansing ATP3 2.1 Speaker System- which certainly do not qualify as "Multimedia Speakers" because the ATP3 has a Subwoofer and is clearly a 2.1 Speaker System.

To give you an idea of what to expect, they cost about USD400.00...

Sheesh, what made you guys thinks such brands as Altec Lansing, Sonic Tatoo, or Creative Labs would pass off at the best.... Very funny. Better hear out a pair of these though, before hitting back at me for thinking of you funny... "Altec Lansing", the best- sheesh...

If you want just a simple pair of multimedia speakers that are better than the "generic" el cheapo ones whose wires are even too short to cut manufacturing costs to a minimum (the ones that sound like it's coming from a tin can), you can go frugal on the expense and get the Creative SBS345 instead- at least the sound quality of these do not sound like they're coming from a tin can, which is frugal living enough and will just set you back USD10.00...

As for the 2.1, 5.1, and 7.1 Speaker Systems that you already have mentioned or may mention, i am wondering why stop there and not go a real Amplifier and, say, KEF Audiophile Speakers setup for example? Since you've already been stretching the term "Multimedia Speakers" at any rate...

the title of this thread should be The Best PC Speaker Setup You Ever Had instead of the current 1. tongue.gif

My apologies, i missed this post... If so, then it's not funny if you say Altec Lansing or sorts- it's good to have had tried these too. But if you want the two little speakers type of thingy, that Bose is really pretty good. Just don't expect "Audiophile Levels of Sound Reproduction", even if it's a Bose- the two little speakers type of thingy really are just for general computer use such as surfing the web (youtube type of things), as well as perhaps listen to a little music while using your computer.

using a 2.1 setup on a amp is a total waste. normally computer wont use real AMP ok? we use sound card  yawn.gif

unless you are talking abt HTPC then for sure use real amp la

@herojack
Sound Card will serve as your pre-amplifier if you decide to hook it up to an Amplifier... Right now i have a rig where am using the builtin sound of Gigabyte Mainboard, which has ok S/N Ratio of 106dB though definitely not audiophile quality just yet... Tapped it to a Pioneer MiniComponent System via Pioneer unit's RCA Aux In input jacks, and sounds ok. But what mi meaning to refer is that, this isn't "MultiMedia Speakers" any longer for example...

... but point is now moot for me, as i have read the post of i_love_japan wherein he suggests changing the title of this thread to be "The Best PC Speaker Setup You Ever Had", i agree with him as people have been answering it as such... At same time, of course we can still include comments on "Best Computer Multimedia Speakers" we have had if we choose to comment on such, and still not be OT.

@enriquelee
Have not had chance to here these Aktimate Mini's you mentioned, but thanks for mentioning will note it so that if given the chance will listen to them carefully... Am not from mainland, you see- available makes and models are different here.

As for those Bose Multimedia Speakers i mentioned, i find them grossly overpriced as bass is not better than, say, Altec Lansing ATP3 although midrange and treble is definitely crisper and better-sounding than that of a, say, Altec Lansing VS4121... It is just that there is really big penalty to pay for the best sound from such small speaker boxes, and these are the best sounding i've had as i said for that pair of tiny multimedia speakers, but USD400.00 can buy a lot in terms of other material goods if one does not actually need the small size of these Bose units... Aktimate Mini might also cause one to have unfair comparison to "bigger" (in size) 2.1 Speaker Systems since it costs even more than the Bose thingy.

For laptop, you can try checking out the Logitech S150- it's a 2.0 Multimedia Speaker set that is only low cost (is this good or bad?) but connects to the laptops USB Port and draws power from said USB Port... No need to connect to wall outlet for power...

Note: But of course as you can imagine they are not known for powerful sound.
