Oh..I thought whole iPhone including multi touch is patented.Because past 2 years, non of mobile phone manufacture produce multi touch for their phones.I thought US tech field is more or less same like medic field. In medic, just like vigra, the "original"manufacture can apply patent for their products for 2 years. After 2 years, they will announce to public the content, which means other medic manufacture can do almost the same medicine but cannot name the medicine with "vigra ".That kind of medicine called generic medicine.Has the same effect with lower price without compromise the quality.

this Palm Pre looks really promising. in fact it will be tough to decide between iPhone (in it's current iteration) and this Pre.
btw also waiting for the next generation of the iPhone. myb there will be something as a result from the acquisation of PA Semi. i love surprises.
multitouch is patented for use on mobile devices by Apple,
patent
while they also got some pending patent such as this,
patent
but still there r some way to circumvent the patent, one of it is by changing a bit the scrolling behaviour while retaining the 'multitouch' feel. in short, it will look similar while it doesnt necessarily be the same thing.
the multi-touch is patented, and that's the reason why there's almost no other manufacturer that came up with multi-touch interface to avoid legal issue with apple. This includes google's android.btw also waiting for the next generation of the iPhone. myb there will be something as a result from the acquisation of PA Semi. i love surprises.

however, after reading one article posted at engadget, i believe the reason palm dare to take on the multi-touch game, simply because apple violated quite a few of palm's patent at the first place. And if apple is about to take them on court, palm may counter suit apple for the violations.
in terms of creativity and innovation, i believe palm is able to sing along with apple. its just that palm's management and marketing team is a group of monkeys when compared to apple.
