It's a nice phone but iPhone still is the best.

Some cons:
1. A bit small. Been used to iPhone big screen.
2. The top part of the keyboard too close to the top part of the phone. Looks like going to be hard to press the keypad.
3. It's a slider phone, which means the sliding mechanism will have wear and tear in time. Most slider phone have problem with the data ribbons.

pros:
1. New and nice UI
2. Intuitive 'strip' at the bottom screen. Just like a touchpad.
3. It's not using Symbian or WinMo.

errrm.... to me is not yet a iPhone killer... but it does have some of its good part

seen some of the demo video at CES, seem like the system still abit of laggy and slow loading, might be due to the OS....

but overall it is a promising phone

Scoble also praise palm pre. Their PR and Development team is from Apple. Just wait the end of June 2009 .

I think iPhone will counter that , the winner is us with less money . hehe.

the UI is awesome!!!
copy paste, can run few apps in the same time
the chat thing pop up underneath like wat android can do last time
look kinda cute, the keyboard n such
iphone still cant be kill coz they got apps. lotsa apps that help them
palm can be great too if they manage to do those app store thing

n HTC G1 actually is better than iphone in some sense,
there got apps to install in G1, that can do all iphone app store and app installation,
mean u can buy itune game n install in G1 and it work the same too

but again
all this phone becoming more advance coz wanna compete iphone, the 1st that come out this cool touch thing and cool UI biggrin.gif
it is better to have more competition so iphone developers will develop more interesting apps/OS for the iphone or next gen iphone

we might benefit with it with FW 3.0 or so on brows.gif

They did. They tied up with Sprint :/

This phone is truly impressive - it'll probably be the 2nd best phone out there other than the iPhone, if not better.

I like how Frozzy on top there listed "not using symbian and winmo" as a pro.. LOL.. i'd have to agree with that hahaha..

If this thing came out 2 years ago, we might be posting in "Palm user forum" instead. But they came 2 year late where the market already been "dominated" mostly by Apple. And looking the economy going, I think it's hard to get my money for RM2k+ mobile. For those that still looking outside the gate, now there's a choice.

market already been "dominated" mostly by Apple???? iphone only sold around 14 million units up to date. how many people in the US? 400 to 500 million people. Apple is just at 2nd or 3rd place in smartphone market recetly. check the graph below, iphone is almost on par with RIM (blackberry), but iphone user base is still small compare to other smartphones.

i feek Palm's pricing is blood sucking....
check out price of their last few Treo models...for that kind of features...price not really justified..

but then, being Palm, there will always be buyers...

I must compliment though, the keypad of Treo..sheer joy to use...

i'm loving the pre so far from what we've known. it might be lacking media-wise. but other functions seems to be on par or even better than the iphone. price would definitely be one of the deciding factor, and since it's still speculation & nothing is set in stone yet, i'm hoping for a more reasonable & competitive pricing.

i'll consider it on my list of 'things-to-watch-out-for'. now if the mass-produced unit is as good as the demo pre, then considered me sold.

Three things left to be considered that will be the deciding point: -

1. Apps - If Palm can deliver a platform where developers thrive and users benefits, this will be a killer feature just like how the Ipod Touch & Iphone are more special with the App Store complementing them.

2. Price - There have been rumors going around that the price for non-contract Palm Pre would range anywhere from USD 399 to USD 499. Even if we use the worse case scenario of using USD 1 = RM 4 (The actual rate at the moment is 1.00 USD =3.57665 MYR), it would only cost us less than RM 2000 which of course is good news.

3. Luck - Why luck ? Palm needs plenty of luck at the moment, although some of the ex-staff from Apple such as Jon Rubinstein who is a legend who help created Ipod and brightly colored Imacs which brought Apple back from the dead is heading the helms with plenty of experience - it remains to be seen whether they could deliver with a great punch to snare the consumers with "Newness".

Nevertheless to say competition would be more intense, and that's what Apple needs at the moment. Lol. All in all it's fantastic news for all of us.
