I see we have a Penang overclockers club and when I searched the forum for Melaka, it returned no results... So, I`m free to start a Melaka version right?

So, lets start discussing. Like where to get the most affordable cooling, etc.

And maybe we can meet up sometime, have a drink, etc

Let me start, my CPU is oced to 3.6GHz, GPU at 720/1780/2000 and ram at 4-4-4-8-t2 860

Haha, so finally Melaka has it's own MOC as well.

I was in Melaka for a year back in 2004.
Used to hang out a lot at Pantai Kundur and Klebang area.
My friend stays around there, too bad haven't been to Melaka for ages edi.

So Melaka PC Shops still as pathetic as they used to be? biggrin.gif

Oh ya, pantai puteri.
I used to have Roti John there with my friends as well.
Really missed those study days, have too much time to kill that we can shoot all the way to Bukit Beruang for counter-strike straight after having roti john.
Couldn't recall properly the name of the CC, should be i-relax or something, not sure if it's still there.

Good to know it's still there.
So hows the PC Spec there like?
They used to have pretty decent systems running on AXP2000+ iirc when i was there.

Foreigners eh, due to MMU?
When i went there, it was mainly chinese there.
They had these rooms where u have a few rigs in it and me and my friends will always occupy a room.

Anyway, i think PC Shops through out Malaysia are all Pathetic except for those in Lowyat and some in IMBI.
Even the shops in Penang are lousy.
No wonder many of us still hang out here on LYN to find our stuffs... laugh.gif

O.o Reducing timing? Means tighten the timings? Shouldn't loosen the timings, then we increase freq first only then finally tighten the timings.

And I another Melakan =D Quite near to old UTEM =P

just bought a Deep Cool Ice Tower last week, and i tried OC it..
i'm not sure why but each time i OC it, boot well in windows and then it hangs, right after logon in windows.
does anyone know why or have some solution? sad.gif

Most probabaly ur vcore

QUOTE(LaiN87 @ Jan 19 2009, 02:20 PM)
O.o Reducing timing? Means tighten the timings? Shouldn't loosen the timings, then we increase freq first only then finally tighten the timings.

And I another Melakan =D Quite near to old UTEM =P
*
Well, thats my opinion/tips on a successful ram oc as in DDR2 rams, the timings effects the performance more than freq. DDR3 is freq than only timings

Yes, it may shorten the lifetime a little bit, but it is generally quite long to start with. Who will still want to run a CPU after 5 years?

I have 1 CPU that has been running with elevated vcore, overclocked and stressing 100% 24/7 since 2004 and still going strong. And all my CPUs are stressed 100% all the time. If you know how much trouble it is to make chips, should make it work 100% 24/7

yaa, i ve test for 10hrs, tongue.gif actually there are people that recommend me to do a stress test for at least 6, 8 - 12 hrs to see if it stable or not, if i ve run a stress test for 2, 3hrs b4, using othos no error no notin, so i thought my oc is stable enuff, the nex thing i now i run into a BSOD after a few hours running my pc normally(of course not at 100% al the time, so just to make sure everything is stable, got not choice but to stress for more then 8 hrs then.. the result now so far is great, no BSOD watsoever.. hopfully my system is fully optimized now and stable biggrin.gif rclxms.gif

wow... finally a Malaccan OC club... bro shaun.. get ur wc kit yet?? i suggest u ask bryanyeo... very nice guy... helped me with my kit... regarding the life span of procs... i remembered something from materials engineering class saying something like... for every 10 degrees more than what its meant to be running.... for example... if ur proc should only be running at 50 degrees and u OC it and make it go up to 60, the life span of the proc will be slash by half... half of the life span for every 10 degrees i think... cannot remember correctly...

thumbup.gif good day all thumbup.gif im a KL kia residing in melaka ...also due to MMU doh.gif

did some OC on my e4300 from 1.8 to 3.22 to catch up against all the new proc speeds cry.gif no money to upgrade

OC-ing and stressing CPU doesnt really mean reducing the proc life....but instead thats all got to do with the temps...if you can OC while keeping the temps low..it wouldnt matter much

my current settings is running at the same temps when im using stock cooler + stock clocks sweat.gif running 24/7 sommore ...MMU hostel internet speeds very shyok rclxm9.gif

i OCed my e4300 1.8ghz to 3.33ghz coz im just bored...then decided to test its stability...but it failed orthos and prime95 within 12 seconds
(rounding 0.5 expected 0.4)

but its been on for more than 10 hours running CPU burn smoothly

so why is it unstable in Orthos but its perfectly stable when i just stress it?

anyways lets forget about it already..since im buying corsair dominator soon smile.gif

It actually depends on the ram chips which is used on the KVR not the brand or the model.
Value rams can clock well also so long as it runs on the right chips.

I've seen KVRs run as high as 1200Mhz, but of course with D9GMHs on them.
I had a pair of Team Values which hit 1200Mhz 5-5-5-18 2.1v as well, with relabeled team rams.

The essential in choosing a right pair of rams to pair with your system is to hunt by ram chips, not the brand of the rams.
If you're going for 2x1gb sticks, get something with D9G on it, not D9...Note, not all D9 are good clockers but all D9G are guaranteed clockers.

Anyway, most value rams(Be it 667 or 800) today should do 900Mhz easily.

Btw, there were some KVRs which previously was brought in by your MMU senior dblooi called the god sticks.
Those KVRs will hit 1000Mhz on stock voltage easily... brows.gif

Im guessing I got the lowest performance chipset.

I cant go above 857. But still, I have 2x 1Gb and 2x2Gb, its enough for me even though the freqs are low

cant find any database on google as well...is it a good chip? or issit the crappy one...which might be the answer of those poor RAM OC results..

cant find any database on google as well...is it a good chip? or issit the crappy one...which might be the answer of those poor RAM OC results..

They should be elpida i guess.
Certain batches of elpidas are pretty good, but on average they'll do 900.

If you're into something confirmed D9GMH, find soulreaver and get his 2nd hand A-datas.
Or you could get new ones from JY14 directly. But prices ain't cheap.

Besides that you can search for what alive88 mentioned, the Crucial 10th annivesary or double sided Crucial Ballistix/Tracers.
The 10th Annies are handpicked chips and theoretically will clock better. Btw, D9GMH only exist in 512mb and 1gb modules.

The others i'd recommend will be the team xtreems, but make sure they are of the earlier batches.

There are also a lot of other good rams out there.
You can also hunt for D9GKX which are even rarer than D9GMH.
These 2 chips are the legends which are easier available.

There are certain batches of Promos, Hynix and Elpida which clocks exceptionally well too, but they are so rare that not many knows which is which...tongue.gif

Yes, team xtreem can still get new, but the later batches of team xtreems are not as good as the older batches.
The older batches will hit 1200Mhz for most of the kits, but i heard the new batches max out around 1100Mhz.

These Rams below deserves extra attention imho
1.) Team Xtreem DDR800 CL3
2.) Team Xtreem DDR1066 CL4
3.) Crucial 10th Anniversary
4.) Cellshock DDR1000 D9GKX

If you can find any of them for a reasonable price, just grab it...Confirm no regrets.

Btw Bonchi, the V1.x dominators are really rare nowadays...

It can do 1200 CL4 but at........2.6vdimm or so smile.gif
Got lubang for Xtreem 1066 CL4??
Anyway,dorminator beware of something:
There are 8500 C5D Rev 1(This one double sided,100% D9GMH/D9GKX,very nicely bin)
One is 8500 C5DF or something like that Rev 1(Single sided ram, this is non D9)

on second thought....is Qimoda any good?....the corsair dominators 2.X are using them tho...according to the site...they say it performs well at lower voltages...not to the extend of 2.3 and above tho...however..im currently under budget for any confirmed D9GMH atm...only bet is on the corsairs at lowyat (RM220)...hopefully sri computer had older stocks...since i am familliar with the boss....hopefully....

tho...i only plan to let my RAM do 1066mhz...the ones i currently own is not stable even at 850mhz

i wonder if any of you guys happen to stumble upon some ppl around MMU, selling so called factory rejected hardwares (mostly HDD) at very low prices...not sure if it'd work but the price is kinda tempting

putting that aside, there's one shop near stygix named cerberus selling oem HDDs very cheap too...however both of them doesnt support any warranties...which might be quite a prob. sad.gif

i wonder if there's any oem CPU sold there laugh.gif hehehehhe

No, procs lifespan will be reduce by heat, not clocks.

So, if u wanna oc, must have a decent cooler. I prefer idling below 40c for a Q6600. Mine idles at 35-38c at 3.6 (CPS9700) and 38c at 3.0GHz on stock cooler

Yeap..heat totally can reduce the lifespan..and i oso read somewhere that besides heat, u oso need to maintain your vcore at a certain level too (not excessively high)..

Depends on the cooler also, I`ve managed to run my q6600 at a suicide 1.6v to reach 3.93Ghz on a WC before...

I think for the average user, should not exceed 1.5

well....as you see...higher vcore = more heat...so it doesnt matter at all...what affects the lifespan is still the heat in the end...btw..is sunbeam CFF any better than my arctic cooling Freezer 7 lapped?.....just wanna clarify...

speaking of Q6600....im prolly changing to Q6600 soon and im ready to let go my e4300 for RM180

Actually, I think for most "stable" / mainstream overclocking the risk of premature death from heat is overrated.

I have a AMD Tbred B from 2003 running overclocked and overvolted since 2003 24/7 through floods and droughts doing SETI@Home/BOINC without any issue, even though I have stopped recently to safe electricity as it is no longer a sensible machine crunch on in addition to its primary torent function.

That job has now been passed on to a C2D machine that is following its gallant steps, these time running 100% on overclocked/overvolted CPU + GPU 24/7, running with junction temperatures exceeding 70C.

Lets see how long it will last, but from experience (have another 2.67GHz celery doing the OC thingy for years until the motherboard gave up) the CPU is not likely to die prematurely - it will more likely be obsoleted before it will die due to the shortening of its life from overclocking.

One of the risks in using a WC set up is leaks. If u dont mind the noise, why dont u get some high end HS then?

and btw, whats ur budget?

the liquid cooling kit's budget is confirmed already...im going for the thermaltake big water SE...
HSF wont do much...as high end ones are really huge..and will have mounting problems in my casing which is an i-cute

i think i can use pt tape to overcome the leakage probs..but right now..unsure of liquid's 24/7 operation and also the coolant of choice..can i use automobile radiator coolant?...the coolermaster one is quite expensive IMO

wonder if any experience WC user in melaka ...really need these advice

been spamming PTFE tapes like mad...and everything is all patched up except the pumps...might resort to sealants as last resort lol..

i think nirox will be over-powered...due to my loop which consists of 3/8'' tubes only

by the way..is there any chance to do 3.2 and above with Q6600 on my freezer7pro?

some how i like this cooler alot (maybe due to its size and performance ratio)

you can do at MMU...
however..i do wanna warn...it is not that quiet either...the fan at high is also damn loud...tho low is suffecient for cooling

and also...(tho for some reason i liked the sound) of water dripping inside the reservoir....which somewhat made me feel relaxed ...haha

the liquid cooling kit's budget is confirmed already...im going for the thermaltake big water SE...
HSF wont do much...as high end ones are really huge..and will have mounting problems in my casing which is an i-cute

i think i can use pt tape to overcome the leakage probs..but right now..unsure of liquid's 24/7 operation and also the coolant of choice..can i use automobile radiator coolant?...the coolermaster one is quite expensive IMO

wonder if any experience WC user in melaka ...really need these advice

huge but still better than those premade water cooling kits
i am using sunbeam ccf inside my icute case, no problem

not stable OC lo...check your voltage and see...also..your rams..see if the speeds are okay..enough voltage to the rams or not..

coz im using dominators also..if its not set...it wont be 1066mhz/5-5-5-15/2.1v

these can cause PC to crash

So far la, petrol money some more.

Can trade nearer to my place, ie gajah berang, or even Klebang?

Play around with the voltage. Use P95 to test the stability. And disable all those CPU features in ur BIOS like Speed Spectrum, etc

argh..helping a friend to assemble his DFI X48 DK T2RS with a Q9400.....
been brainstorming on how to boot...but all it did is just light up like a Christmas tree (ballistic tracer red edition)

gonna test each parts individually one day before RMA-ing the Mobo...sigh..had this same experience with DFI actually...
but miraculously...that previous one just boot suddenly after a day later blink.gif :| without doing anything doh.gif

What do u thinkg guys, should I go for more on my Q6600, like say 3.8?

As my idle temps at 3.6 is 35c, and load less than 60

why not if it is possible lol biggrin.gif

but if i were you...i always try to keep my CPU load below 60 (i just dont feel good when temps go beyond 60)

darn...i cant wait for the market price to go down...besides...does normal rigs support X3220? since its the same price as Q6600....im thinking of going for that instead

Not sure about that, never used Xeons before, but just why not Q6600? Thats a real legend CPU.

Prob is where to get a Q6600 in Mka now? All or most shops replaced it with the `inferior` Q8200 mad.gif

go KL buy :/..some shops still have stocks....
the availability for the Q6600 is also the reason why im going after the xeons...after all...its the same chip (kentsfield) same stepping (g0) but lower voltage 1.24 as compared to 1.32 and less power consumption 95w as compared to 105w....

heard that its actually Q6600 but picked from better quality ones..thats why its better binned...tho i not really sure about the details and compatibility..need opinions here (heard is even better in OC compared to the already legendary Q6600)

WC kits..decent ones will cost a bomb ...around 600+ for a performer (pm bryanyeo <--issit? for the parts)

or you can go for budgets like the thermaltake bigwater...which im somehow too busy to sell XD(will be active soon)....though ive lapped it and its almost mirror shine (1600grit)...but one word of advise...budget WC kits performs about the same as our high-end HSFs....with the amount required for maintenance and assembly...not to mention worries of leaks....i'd say air is better but slightly noisier

Whats ur CPU cooler? For ocing, u need to increase the CPUs voltage slightly by slightly. Same applies to ur ram, NB and SB

I think, firstly, u need a good cooler to increase the voltage. Secondly mobo must be good, having lots of ocing opitions and voltage diff increases very small.

Dont forget PSU too

Nice, what sort of WC. But as told by other Malacan ocers, if u get a cheap aio kit, it`ll just deliver the performance of a high end HS

@kilowatt
hint...
1. up your vnb one notch.. and try again.. if failed up again one notch and so on... don't set to much else u'll fry ur mobo w/o adequete cooling on nb...
2. your fsb/mem strap... maintain your mem freq nearest to 1066MHz 5-5-5-15 2.1V

have fun.. don't fry anything on d way....

just want to help. u'll understand it later on in time...
take it slow... OCing requires patient.
VNB = northbridge voltage...
owh.. another hint.. 4got to mention vFSB/CPU VTT... increase one notch at one time... don't go higher than 1.4V.. else it will kill your proc..

I max the core clock and shadder. But sometime folding still fail. Any idea how to reduce the error? I try to reduce and increase both core clock and shadder but still sometime error. Any exact value?

Not really,it is depend on your soldering skill laugh.gif
You can vmod but remember not to leave any traces and remove the vmod before send in for RMA smile.gif

Good suggestion, but if myself, I`m rather bad at soldering, so I wont be able to claim biggrin.gif

Still for teh average GPU ocer, get a decent cooler and increase ur core, mem and shader, bit by bit

hi all from melaka,

i'm also staying in melaka. recently i just bought an E5200 + Asus P5KPL-AM board, guess what, i didn't expect much, but managed to overclock to 3.38Ghz (270x12.5) all using default voltage setting. oh, i got the R0 revision of the e5200. at 3.38, the cpu temp is about 39C only using the OLD Pentium-D heatsink (there is a copper core inside).

I'm sure the old beefy P-D heatsink helped alot. With the new stock low profile (a nice marketing term Intel used rather than more correctly calling it a Wimpy/Sissy/Cheap heatsink) I can only manage slightly above 3.1GHz on the same mobo.

i will do the stability test this weekend smile.gif . i will only overclock it for video conversion. for others purpose, normal default speed is more than enough.

that's why i still keep the copper core heatsink smile.gif i know it could be a cheap but good heatsink one day. smile.gif i think my e5200 can be push higher, but i think 3.38Ghz is more than enough for most of my software applications.

I`ve lapped a p4 before...

most guides will suggest sand paper, but I used a knife sharpener instead. The kind of flat batu asah type..

1. Get ready a damp cloth
2. Wipe the HS and then `asah` it
3. Do the same with the proc, still, damp the silver part just slightly, not too much.
4. Apply even force until it becomes like bronze

For HS, lap until even can ady

What ram you using? What speed? What timing?

1. Put FSB:RAM to 1:1 1st.
2. Slowly increase FSB.
3. Stress it using LinX/Prime95/IBT.
4. If stable, increase FSB again.
5. Repeat Step 3.

Do bear in mind that Q6600 is hot. smile.gif

Can u boot it now?

And is ur cpu oced? And any cpu: ram link?

Firstly, I advice to unlink it, oc ur proc say 50-80 at a time and then the ram, from 800>850>and so on. And dont forget to increase teh rams voltage as well

i can boot it with default setting only.. (@2.4GHz)
i'd unlink the cpu:ram setting
i tried increase the cpu vcore value..
but i don't really know how much,
since the setting allows a value of 0.005V in each increase
my stock vcore was 1.25-1.35, something like that..
any advice on this..?

p/s: does anyone here used & know how to OC with this mobo (MSI P7N SLI PLATINUM)?

Get HAF933 better. More bigger.
SLI meant 2x GTX295 (in your case)

here is my Rig information, any sudgestion?

core i 7 920
asus rampage extreme2
300 GB harddisk 16MB
Cooler master 850W modular
XFX GTX295 Plus Zotac GTX295 (SLI)  (but looks nothing different....any one know in SLI??)
Cooler Master Aquagate and Koolence CPU Water Block MIX with X58 Koolence NB and SB
HAF 932 Casing
Dell 24 LCD

Its because the GTX295 is actually 2 cards... Just my personal preference, get the GTX285. If games that do not support multiple cards, the GTX285 wins...

But since u got ur rig ady, congrats... and nice specs there

i can boot it with default setting only.. (@2.4GHz)
i'd unlink the cpu:ram setting
i tried increase the cpu vcore value..
but i don't really know how much,
since the setting allows a value of 0.005V in each increase
my stock vcore was 1.25-1.35, something like that..
any advice on this..?

p/s: does anyone here used & know how to OC with this mobo (MSI P7N SLI PLATINUM)?
*
Set CPU to 1333 for teh fsb, v core at 1.35, try first see whether can boot or not.

Mine is similar (750Sli as well), but is Asus

you mean the melaka one??? nope sad.gif coz exams was around the corner... tho from my last experience.. nothing much to see ler.. its all mostly laptops, antivirus and high school kids screaming streeemiiix plomosion!! and not to forget celcom broadbands too doh.gif

OC-ing is not a high upkeep hobby lol... in fact.. it somewhat saves more money for me XD.. getting the low end and its performance can be at par with the higher ones... for example e4300 OC to 3.3ghz and then the phenom ii X3 BE unlocked to X4.... and you dont need such powerful mobo as well.. i just get whats reliable.. especially gigabyte's (i prefer to work with pheonix over AMI)

it will be an expensive hobby only if you're obsessed and invest on WC and also newer hardware as it releases..

Thanks to all for highlighting me, btw already bought from the lingloong here in LYN. + postage charges the price is still much cheaper offered from those shops in Melaka.

Last few days, I visited some pc shops around melaka. The shops were ncs, millenium trading, mmc, stygix, i-cute and pcspec. Met kit_kit of pcspec, he is 1 of the seller in LYN.. just open a new outlet in the same row as stygix, bkt bruang. after introducing myself and told him I bought most of the pc hardwares from LYN.. he suggesting me to come to his shop when I need something. He is willing to offer as the others offering me. He did offer a good bargain in comparison.

Still pcspec, will be the main and the 1st will be the branch. No signboard sighted, but I just at the right few shops from stygix. Looking at the items on the shelves maybe they are targeting for gamers or any high end users, lets give stygix some competition and thoughts about their no bargain price tag thumbup.gif

Malaccan here. Agree that stygix is crap. Now I totally stop buying from them... and start to buy my stuff from lowyat.net sellers here, including DVD discs

Now I'm building myself a new PC, and so far all hardware have been bought online here.

Not that I don't want to support Malacca shops, but its really hard to find certain hardware here. Some need to order, have to make so many trips to the shop. And hard to find specific brands.

Viewcom price is okay or not? someone told me that their price is expensive compared to stygix which is bit cheaper.

Found this thread. Good to see fellow mmu-ians. Never been to viewcom before, yet to drop. Heard their service are pretty good. They would help you with rma too. Do they sell cooler master psu or any other good range psu?

I only go to stygix to buy small things, never big stuffs. Rubbish service. Compared to lowyat, they're puny. brows.gif

OC thread turn into stygix bashing haha.

You can try viewcom, pcspec which are the same row as stygix.
