Do you know any effective anti-anxiety med that I can buy without going to doc/psychiatrist. I wonder if they sell this kind of meds in pharmacies.

I am new to college and got a culture shock. Everybody there is way older than me. I just got out of high school and never live on my own like that.

So I want to know if there are meds I can buy over the counter. To ease this shock.

I don't think those med are good for you.
They might leave negative after-effects.
What you should do is take up a sport or do smtg relaxing.
True, it is harder to click with older people but after awhile, you'll find that they're not too bad smile.gif

try to go for a more holistic approach rather than a pharmaceutical approach. anxiety is usually caused worry and uneasiness. its a very normal reaction followed through by stress. there are several therapies for anxiety disorder treatment. standing prescription is the last thing you should turn to. this is a good read on the treatments: http://helpguide.org/mental/panic_disorder...m_treatment.htm

i heard there are natural anxiety meds that don't have negative side-effects. I wonder if they sell those in retail pharmacies though.

TS, you should relax. It is normal to feel different when you are in a new environment.
If you feel necessary for anti-anxiety med, try Rilax - you can get it from pharmacies.
Then again, just relax and you will soon fit into yr new life.

No, I'm afraid you will not find anti-anxiety meds over the counter. These medications require a prescription from a doctor. What you can get is probably a herb/supplement called valerian, which supposedly is able to help calm down your nerves. You could give it a shot, but I cannot promise that it may be effective.

i think ppl take benzodiazepine for anti-anxiety. It is not advised for you to take benzo at such a young age. It is due to the fact that benzo causes addiction if taken at a long time. If you get addicted and try to quit, it is difficult because it will cause withdrawal symptoms like difficulty to sleep, fatigue, etc which is bad.

I understand how culture shock is like. But once you get adapted to your environment, you will be fine. Do not get intimidated by your fellow classmates because they are older than you, try to talk to them, be friendly. It may be difficult at first. But i believe all good things happen to those who persists and works hard to get what they want.
