Multi-platform, it depends. One good side about multi-platform is that everyone can go online and play together without boundaries. Not like currently, PS3 can link with PS3, Wii with Wii and Xbox with Xbox while PC only with PC.

Imagine a day, everyone on different platform can play MMORPG either on the console or PC or handheld and imagine how large the community will be. I do believe there is a few gaming companies trying to stride along this line. I read it somewhere few months back but can't recall which company.

Other than that, console have its advantage and PC also does. FPS games should stick to PC, unless a combo keyboard mouse can be used on a console but people will complain that keyboard mouse combo will have better accuracy, which I can prove wrong as I have friends who play using joypad COD4 while I was on keyboard mouse, are better. It all depends on skill, not just hardware.

On the issue of piracy, well, PC does have its downside for having the most pirated stuff, while hey, open source isn't far off either. If softwares are cheaper and affordable, everyone will not mind buying originals. I mean, games I do believe most of us buy for pleasure play aside from for the sake of playing it then chuck it away after we're done (this is non-originals) while for original owners, we tend to replay the games, looking out for extra hidden stuff (FAQ anyone? And those who wrote them.) to maximize out the price we're paying for. Software wise, well, if its good and cheap, who will not buy it? Besides, we do use it often. Best example would be Kaspersky. Cheap and affordable.

Wow, this is long. Anyway, just my opinion.

PS: I have more open source running on my PC, aside from bloody WinXP. Linux anyone?

multiplatform is good...
gamers jz wanna play games regardless of the console...
thus if they do get games on their console, they'll jz play it...

on the other hand, multiplatform would limit the game..
exclusive games do tend to push the boundaries of gaming: -
- crysis for pc
- mgs4 for ps3
- no more heroes on wii
- GeoW2 for 360

optimization excels on exclusive games...
unless u got a kick ass pc out there, u would be limited to the gamign experience...

ps: console do have keyboards n mouse

Games going multiplatform will hurt the company which produces the more expensive console. Sony, I am looking at you. Why would you want to spend money buying the more expensive console if it is available on a cheaper one? If you want to make us pay more for PS3 you better get your exclusives right.

Piracy will be the loophole for profit to leak out for the compromised console as well. Pirated 360 games anyone? It will probably benefit the developers more since their market will be larger but piracy will make them reconsider as well. It depends on how much piracy will affect the extra profit gained from making games on other platforms, as well as how costly it will be to port.

Exclusivity can be done even games are multi-platformed, PS3 can have its exclusive extras or specials compare to other console or PC. It all bores down to the developers and also the market whether to consider it or not. There is no right or wrong to this.

Then again, having exclusive to consoles (MGS on PS, Halo on Xbox, PC, Mario Kart for Nintendo) will also be a downside as those who wants to play those games have to get all 3 consoles which isn't cheap to begin with.

I personally think it's a bad idea.... If a game goes multiplatform, the PC version will sure to be pirated or being distributed through torrents. Hence, gamers will obviously get the PC version instead of console version.

PC ports such as Prince of Persia was directly ported from the console version. Hence, it can only display resolution of up to 1280x720 only. WTF!!  doh.gif (I swear to god I am not throwing in a penny for UBISOFT titles ever again).

Games on consoles offers better piracy protection especially on PS3 where until now, there's no fake copies of games available on this platform.

Multiplatform games will hinder and prevent developers from maximizing a console's hardware capabilities. (They need to detune the software so that it is able to run on weaker consoles).

These are a few points that i am able to think of... anyone have more comments to be made, please post... I would gladly hear comments from other gamers.  smile.gif

YET.

wait till there's a mass acceptance of rewritable need for Blu Ray Discs. the security of the software has been unlocked long time ago actually. it's a matter of time before we will see pirated PS3 games (not that i'm waiting for it, but to those who thinks that PS3 is UNPIRATABLE, you are so damn wrong).

I don't mean PS3 games is unpiratable. I agree that due to the high cost of Bluray disc, it's not feasible for pirates to pirate them just yet. Who would want to buy an RM80-RM100 pirated disc right?

Yep...better off buy the original one laugh.gif

for me Multiplat can be good and bad at the same time.

if taken from Dev perspective : more platform = more money (IF the game a hit)

from Gamers perspective: More platfom = More choices to buy the game (but might ignite the ever-useless "Visual comparison" argument)

from my perspective, as long as they didnt make a half-asses port or half-asses optimization...im ok with it

Well, that is what I think in 2006,
I thought Nintendo would go the way of SEGA.
Haha, Super Mario Galaxy on PS3, where Mario turned into a vampire at night.
Zelda is a 360 exclusive.

Yes I agree, exclusives tend to test the technology unique to the consoles.
Gears 2, MGS4, Mario Galaxy, Boom Blox....
While multi-plat has a slightly higher chances of being cheap.

do quote the source where is says the PS3's software security has been unlocked. The results of my searches from google are sketchy at best. Just a couple of videos on youtube where it could easily be faked.
