Wenger believes in Bendtner
Gunners boss has expressed confidence in his young striker Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has expressed that he has full confidence in striker Nicklas Bendtner. Bendtner scored the winning goal against Bolton after coming off the bench on Saturday with just six minutes of normal time remaining. The Denmark international has found chances hard to come by at the Emirates after bursting onto the scene while on loan at Birmingham in the Championship in 2006. This season the 20-year-old, who turns 21 later this month, has started eight times in the Premier League, scoring twice with six goals from 24 appearances overall. Despite preferring Emmanuel Adebayor and Robin Van Persie up front, Wenger insists that he has total belief in the youngster's ability. "The fans judge on the game but the manager has to consider what he can display in one year," he told the club's official website. "Today they wanted to see the finished article, that is normal. "He has spoken to me and he knows I have full confidence in him and people are sometimes surprised that I stick with him. "I think he has scored a very important goal (against Bolton) and it is not the first time. "He can be decisive, for me when a striker is in the air, or on the move for a set-piece, he understands football. "For the goal he scored he was on the move at the moment he scored. So you can say this guy is a striker and has a chance. He is 20-years-old but it is very young." Sky |

Sensible stuff by the boss, bendtner still has a future at the club. Selling him would undo all the work we've done to nuture talent. We can't expect every young talent to be a cesc. Who knows when players may peak ? (eg arshavin)
about ppl replacing cesc, i think nasri is doing an excellent job in the middle right now, and we have the like of denilson to play cesc's role quite well except that the boss wants him more defensively... no worries as i see it's a good thing to develope denilson's all around game. develop his power.. he'll be a good player sooner than we think.. i hope we hang on to him as well.. in fact i hope we hang on to most of our players.. i think most of our gripe is not the lack of quality of players... we don't mind these players at the club.. just not playing week in and week out in 1st team when they're not ready. We're lacking in depth... and injuries has made it worse... and a long injury list at that. We shouldn't sell anyone and bring in more reinforcements. One day just one day perhaps when don't get as much injury... i know our squad depth is less but our injury list compared to other clubs esp the top 4 every season is just bad... perhaps we should look at the statistics... i don't think everyone we sign is brittle bones... it makes so much sense as arsenal are always being kicked out of the park, and we can't return it... while rooney goes around unpunished having a go at the ref all the time.. the amount of profanities and lack of respect for referees is well documented... but he just always seems to get away with it... perhaps an english player at a top4 club thing. @ transfers No news is good news ? pretty anxious really.. i hope we tie things up fast as we got games coming up each week.. the sooner we wrap things up the better it is for us. no last minute deals pls.. although better late than never i guess... i hope whatever it is... wheter we sign someone great or not it better be more than 1 signing to address us... say we don't address CB ... lets deal with midfield - 1 attacking (winger that can play both sides would be great as we need cover for right and left.. nasri can move middle) 1 defensive .. say if vela breaks into 1st team on the left.. then at least aafter walcott or walcott can compete for right with that person.. and eboue can finally be back up to RB where he is best suited anyway. Mayb we'll get traore back for left.. but i still prefer a ready 1st teamer material. |

QUOTE(solstice818 @ Jan 12 2009, 11:59 PM) He did get noticed quite late, but his name was already being mentioned along with Zhirkov in other forums before the Euros. It's unfair to say that he's a late bloomer like Luca Toni though, as Arshavin's been performing at his peak for many years for Zenit. QUOTE(rockalt1292 @ Jan 13 2009, 12:14 AM) and bear in mind that Shine in Euro Cup doesnt mean he will shine in premier league, just look at Baros Indeed. Yet don't forget that Baros was out of action for a long time when he broke his ankle, plus the fact that Liverpool used to rotate him around despite his fiery form and hence limiting his appearances. His time at Villa wasn't any better but again Villa was undergoing a transformation at that time where a lot of senior players were gradually shipped out to accommodate the younger players.Again, stats don't portray the whole picture, but surely 14 goals in 14 games in his current season with Galatasaray is a great achievement, no? There might be some reason behind his relative lack of appearances - be it team policy or maybe even his attitude, but that doesn't take away the fact that Milan Baros is a better-than-average striker. QUOTE(solstice818 @ Jan 13 2009, 12:46 AM) The Spanish teams will come for our players every summer, previously Paddy then Titi and now Fabs. It seems like a compliment that the big teams acknowledge our players as world class, but the way they unsettle and approach via illegal matters makes one lose respect for those so called big teams. Not forgetting the regular link between Real Madrid and Arsene which has been going on and off for the past 10 years. This post has been edited by StarGhazzer: Jan 13 2009, 07:01 AM |

Compare the squad we used to have in 03/04 season.
Lehmann Lauren - Campbell/Cygan - Toure/Keown - Cole Ljunberg - Vieira/Parlour - Gilberto - Pires/Edu Bergkamp/Reyes - Henry Almunia Sagna - Gallas - Toure/Djourou - Clichy Walcott/Eboue - Fabregas - Denilson/Diaby - Rosicky/Nasri Van Persie - Adebayor Other than Sagna, i can't see any department which is better than the past. Cesc is almost the same par as Vieira, but more creative. but Vieira brings the monster in our midfield. As for the defence, I'll have Campbell anytime of the day. No point dwelling on the past though. I just hope AW will do something soon. We can't go on trophiless for long. We must win silverware this season. In Arsene I trust! |

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « I guess AW knows what he is doing. I think Clichy did good enough to be compared to Cashley Cole. I do think he is quite a steady and leftback. This post has been edited by gwong: Jan 13 2009, 10:16 AM |

Another line-up to reflect on. The best team, IMO that Arsene have ever bring together. The double winning team, 97/98.
Seaman Dixon - Adams/Bould - Keown/Grimandi - Winterburn Parlour/Ljunberg - Vieira - Petit - Overmars/Platt Bergkamp/Kanu - Anelka/Wright QUOTE(gwong @ Jan 13 2009, 10:15 AM) » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « I guess AW knows what he is doing. i think someitmes AW shud give some chance to younger players to play in bigger league games...like MU give chance to anderson, nani ,rafael and evans when they came..not to say copying MU style...just tat this will increase the depth of the squad...so tat when injury comes,it wont affect the match too much...just my 2 cents....

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Keown!! Yeah! The most annoying but effective centre-half. Too bad that Gallas is only annoying mostly off the pitch. Actually Cashley did quite well that season but I think we'll need to give Clichy some credit as well. He filled in the quite well. Btw, Flamini did not bad as a left-back too. hehe. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Btw, I think Arsenal dont have younger player. If younger they will be kids like 12-13 years old. Hehe..kidding. This post has been edited by gwong: Jan 13 2009, 10:47 AM |

Depends on situation. Not all the time MU give those youngsters chance to play. For example the Chelsea game, Evans replaced Rio due to injury. And during the Arsenal game, Ferguson replace Neville because Neville played horribly. Anderson and Nani have been first team previously in their clubs, Porto & Sporting Lisbon. when Ferguson bought them, they are ready-made. So I don't think playing them in big games is not an issue when injury hits. Where as Arsenal's youngsters, Arsene do give them a few run-out before the final whistle but not as much. Youngsters that we buy are seriously youngsters. We can't avoid injury, though. But sometimes i feel the youngsters we have are still not as ready as they should. The confidence is still not there. Fro example Djourou. The lad have been in the squad for a few seasons already, but yet he seemed shakey at times... Ramsey for me seemed ready to stepped up. But Arsene has yet to start him. There's a few names i would like to mention which I feel could fill in the boots of the first 11 in case of injuries. Nodveit, Ramsey and Wilshere. Btw, did u guys see Jay Simpson play for West Brom last weekend? He impressed me... |
