lol I dun think if we set the network mode for dual mode will drain battery faster than set for gsm mode only
*
i've read in a few forums and blogs that it saves battery, but donno how much.. maybe depends on the 3g quality coverage.

eh want ask u guys something.

i went to nokia care, they dowan replace 1-1. they said this phone not out on market yet. so they dun legally support this phone warranty or wat... i said i buy avaxx , he said still, any phone on the market now is not originally from nokia malaysia. it could be from china.

how ahh ? plz help.... i'm stuck with a defect phone.. damn
*
WTF!!! vmad.gif where is that nokia care located? in KL/selangor or what? somebody here already went to nokia care and they give 1-1 replacement. but do remember it is their choice whether to repair it or to replace it. in that guy's case the nokia care chose to do 1-1 replacement and replaced the whole phone + boxed set.

even if the nokia care don't want to do 1-1 replacement, they should repair it. Did u show your Avaxx sticker/warranty to them?

aih.. meaning i should just send back to atlantis ask chris to tighten the screw for me ah? cannot 1-1 replacement dy ? wonder how hellwalker did it.
*
i think as long as the warranty won't void then go to atlantis and ask him to tighten the screw or whatever solution is available. if im not mistaken there's no sticker at the required repair parts to void the warranty.

if 1-1 replacement also prone to the same problems because the same 5800 1st batch...so better repair.

when will the new batch of earpiece pulling out from nokia? anyone know the date? I also need to sent it to repair...mine is different...press hard to ear the sound become soft...pls do update all of us if anyone know when nokia announce that earpiece are ready to replace...thanks~
*
if you want it fixed now, got the shop u bought it and ask them to tighten the required screws.

if you want nokia to fix it, got to nokia care and if they say have to wait official release, send it after the 9th.

got one person here who went to nokia care and got a replacement of a whole new boxed set of nokia 5800. if this is the case it still might not fix the problem as the 1-1 replacement set is also the same batch of 5800 and still prone to the problem. if nokia care decides to repair it, then that's the way to go. biggrin.gif

The theme can be deleted easily which already installed in the phone? As far as I know, those N series is very difficult to delete the theme.

P/S: I heard the installation of the application must connect the USB cable to computer in order to install it? I thought this phone should be same like those N series right? Just put in the .sis file and use the phone to install whatever application?
*
i got an n81 before and it's easy to install themes. i connect to pc, transfer the theme.sis file into memory card/mass memory, then install it from inside the phone.

if i want to uninstall it i just go to Applications > App. manager > uninstall (whatever theme u want to uninstall)

makes the phone bulkier but protects it from scratches at the back when we put the phone down on the desk etc..

but imo, the casing here makes the phone looks like it's more expensive and cooler

that's not a lot but interface wise does it make the phone slow a bit?

seems that the casing you show is blocking the proximity sensor...
*
maybe needs modification as most if not all of the leather casing for 5800 has that problem.

i suggest using a belt-hole puncher and cut a nice clean hole at the required sensor.

There could be a problem there. The blackout only happens when the proximity sensor is blocked with a surface, when that surface unblocks the sensor, display should restore immediately. Either the firmware is buggy there or the sensor is party blocked due to the assembly of the casing. The casing has a window to allow the sensor to operate. Maybe that window has partially blocked it.
*
will shadows also make the display turn off? if say use leather casing even with a hole for the prox sensor, will the slight shadow caused by the casing turn off the sensor in normal or low light?

yeah...now i understand.

that means if the casing moved a bit the IR beam will hit the casing and turn off. can the IR sensor be disabled from the phone or by using a sofware cause that will make sure that nobody has problems with their prox sensor.

Lol...this is not a problem la...  tongue.gif
It's just the user mistake by applying the screen protector that cover the sensor area.

And i think it's a great feature, cos it off the screen when you are talking, can save battery.  biggrin.gif
*
The screen protector is clear but because it also reflects a bit of light at some degree it has a chance to reflect the IR beam back and thus turn the display off right?

that's y u can repair the phone by opening it with the plectrum...so easy to open, but that's not a good "feature"..

QUOTE(davidmak @ Jan 8 2009, 10:15 AM)
I don't think you can disable the IR sensor. The OS only has provisions to disable the accelerometer. Reason is because the accelerometer provides data feedback to the OS. The IR sensor is more like a high-low signal output which is relatively low level or primitive. So I guess the engineers just wire it to the enable/disable I/O of the LCD display. No need to go through OS and burden it with processing overhead.

You can't cut the sensor wire either because we don't it is an ACTIVE HIGH or ACTIVE LOW device. Unless we take it out and measure the responses.

Anyway yes, the screen protector is clear and shouldn't interfere with the IR beam. But there could be a possibility that the screen protector is too thick or opaque (clarity wise), so some trace of IR is reflected when the beam penetrates the screen protector. But feel moving the sensor a bit could solve the problem. But you will have to crack open the case again.
Yes, its a great feature, not only can it save battery it'll prevent our face from accidentally touching the screen and activating something since this a large 3.2" of real estate space.
*
okay .now i understand how the IR sensor works. is there a possibility that the IR sensor does not have a wire and is soldered right onto the board?
