nah... I still agree that alot of lecturers are involved with research.. and most of their long working hours are due to that.
In fact... I would do that too.. But whatever you want to do with the degree is up to you. Whether you want to further or you want to kanchiong go work immediately is up to individuals... |

Being an IMU student. The timetable of a biomedical science undergrad is extremely hectic. including 1st sem itself. I dont know about other uni.. but best of all is to get ready first
Added on January 12, 2009, 10:00 amabout research... we have industrial attachments during sem 4 and 5... that is i think lah they put us somewhere and try working with biomedical scientists or something connected to the future career. Sem 6 we have our research project where a lecturer is given to supervise us. The research project itself is 4 credit units. This post has been edited by n_n: Jan 12 2009, 10:00 AM |

QUOTE(P_$layer_123 @ Apr 3 2009, 05:56 PM) IMHO, if u r doing science (any field). u must be aware of the latest trend in the scientific world. Like what is hot and new (green technologies, patent agent). It is a hot thing in US and I think sooner or later it will hit Malaysia too mb except for the patent agent. Going into this area might be a good idea now. yes, i agree with you... in future anything will happen. Bacteria and viruses always mutate. So does diseases and everything. But those shouldn't stop us from upgrading. Science is alwas changing... so does mankind. The reason why we all ended up unemployed or under paid is because we didnt know what might happen 4years after we enrolled. Living in denial for the past 2 years, now only I realized the importance of keeping oneself up dated and down to earth. Haiz.... So i dont see unemployment as a reason not to pursue this field.. unemployed here? go overseas.. they are waiting for in with arm wide open! |

hey! Welcome! Yeap, it is not that easy (nothing is easy in life right?), i should warn you regarding the timetable. However, all in all.. it was fun in a way coz you get to learn new things such as how to draw blood in sem 2.. and the port dickson trip on sem 1. This course is very practical based. So be ready to type a lot of reports...What i mean ALOT is ALOT.. lol..
Feel free to find me anytime...! Whiich part of JB are you from? |

Hey people,
I would like to clarify something time and again. Yeap, by getting a degree you have no choice but to end up working as the lab tech. BUT that dont make you a doctors assistant. Definitely a NO. Like i said times and before... this is an ever growing and ever updating field. Meaning, if you wan research.. if you want better job, PLEASE upgrade youself to a MSc or PhD. By then, you will see the "keng" ness of Biomedical Science. I am not exagerrating of what not. But this is exactly what a lecturer in my uni *a doctor* told us. He told us back in oversea where he studies and work for quite a long time. Biomedical Scientist are actually trouble shooters to what the doctors dont know. Hence, our course is a little to medical base but we look at it in a very different way. He say he as a pathologist truly respects the Biomedical Scientists and that to his despair that this course is not yet developed in Malaysia. That is y Malaysia mind set states that we are nothing but doctor's assistant. Which we are not meant to.. To my future junior from JB, Yes we have ALOT of practical report which i think we shouldnt complain about because it is parts and parcel of our course. It carries the fraction of the 30% for in course assestment which will be brought forward to FINALS. There is no practical based exam.. till now. But i heard there will be OSPE for next sem for Microbiology. This is like a practical based exam. Once again this is only my thoughts... Added on April 30, 2009, 6:41 pmI had started a facebook group for biomedical science in Malaysia... http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?topic=94...gid=75967753211 This post has been edited by n_n: Apr 30 2009, 06:41 PM |

Head on to this site yea? http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=75967753211 Neway, Kurogane88 is my coursemate~ and he can definitely explain how life is it like in IMU. =) *tho we are different people with totally different mindset* Life is hectic there but of course nothing in life is easy. As long as you pursue something that you are interested in.. It should be easier than you think!!! |
