former wall st. VP

still working hard though. ever since i was in college, i had that "itch" for material items and fine luxury goods. i would say that it was that "itch" that pushed me to work hard and always find/take advantage of opportunities.

i did not come from a wealthy family, or have the best education, but was lucky enough to find opportunities in odd places.

Can't wait to experience what the big deal is about this bag.

Willingness to pay RM80 for a pair of socks separates the big tymers from the small tymers.
*
lol, older post, but had to comment.

RM 80/pair definitely ballar status. I start complaining once things get north of RM 30/pair.

By the way, atta, do you mind amending your thread's title to request that forumers include pictures in their posts? I'm re-pinning this thread.

Yeap amended as per request and thanks heaps for re-pinning this thread!
Btw, using iPad 2 to type is really a pain in the arse!

i suppose that depends on who you ask. I doubt many would spend over RM 600 on a single pen!

RM 1200 for a t-shirt??!!!?!?

You sir, are crazy. i recommend you buy a good digital camera first! biggrin.gif

I have a closet full of Emporio Armani t-shirts, and they are much cheaper than the GA level. Only RM 250-320 or so each. But they are just plain black or white tees.

btw, you are much younger looking than i expected. so what is a young kid like you doing, spending RM 1200 for a shirt?

sorry for the brand whore question but are those prada loafers?

i used to love prada. quality, unfortunately has dropped dramatically in the last 10 years as have many of the italian brands. the leathers are very soft, but they wear out terribly fast. except their shell cordovan oxfords, which are extremely rare (i've only seen them as an '06 launch).

but those look beautiful. and if they are prada's, do they fit? prada's have the oddest sizing for their shoes, making them a pain to order online. what's worse is that they're not even consistent across their line.

i've got some Saphir polish that would make those glow!

yes, they are prada. fits well with me tho ( i don't even know how my sister can estimate my shoe size). the leather, like u said, is superbly soft.
i've never been into this kind of shoes before. so can u, or someone here tell me how to dress with this loafers?

(though that 1.9k hermes polo t is quite tempting but the on the website its like only 1.2k so no thanks hermes MALAYSIA LOL you guys cant rot with ur stupid prices!)

ea too shirts are getting boring in design but i guess there is no difference for plain one LOL....

erm well as much as i like to spend money i like to save money too.. so yea before i can spend them i have to save up first tongue.gif

i dont get how do people spend so much on a pen.
i know im kampung lah, but i dont feel safe carrying a pen that cost me a grand in my pocket.
Dad gave me a Mont Blanc for my 12th birthday, until now remains unused.
i mean, i dont see the need to use it. well, im still a student la. but im frens use it for exams.
sorry if i offend you guys by not appreciating the value of these luxury items.
so why the hype over an overpriced pen? mines a boheme bleu fountain pen and it still lies in my drawer collecting dust, untouched for 7 years straight and counting.

Luxury goods are, for the most part, statements of success and wealth, or at least, a demonstration of image. Sure there are good materials, history, blah blah blah, but a lot of that stuff can be found in items that do not have the brand name, for much less.

So that being said, an expensive pen makes that statement. And why would someone want to make that statement? To post on LYN? Probably not.

For me, it's a little bit about business and some more about interest. Doing business with people that are successful and appreciate the finer things in life. When I break out an expensive pen, the bloke on the other side of the desk knows that I am serious about what I do and appreciate detail. It is the same reason why it's best not to go into a business meeting with a t-shirt and shorts. The suit is more appropriate because of the statement you are trying to make, whether it be a professional one or one that shows respect for the person you're meeting with.

I remember having a great conversation with a CEO over his IWC watch and my Panerai. I think he looked at me quite different after it, and there was some mutual respect, even though he was at least 15 years older.
In the end, we never got the deal done, and there are times where the decision maker could care less about what kind of pen, watch, shoes, wallet, accessories, car, etc, that you have. But, it's the time that it does have some impact that we look forward to.

With atta posting a pic of a fine pen, a collector like myself appreciates the decision he has made and the choice to spend that kind of money and (hopefully) the hard work he put into earning it. I view him differently as a result (in a good way).
