QUOTE(nakata101 @ Jan 7 2009, 11:28 AM) Both Atlus and Namco did very well.............but why still no Persona at PS3, i have sold off my PS2 after i have finish the Digital Devil Saga 2, damn regret after saw the Persona 4 came out at PS2 only. At the time of development for Persona 4, Atlus still wasn't sure about the PS3's potential as console. More over, Atlus simply doesn't have that much money to throw around in a development, they either make it or break it. So of course, the easy way out to gain some extra free cash through the PS2.QUOTE(gundamalpha @ Jan 7 2009, 12:32 PM) I wonder how do Valkyria Chronicles and White Knight perform on the PS3. Many people were poking on 360's JRPG's sales Valkyria Chronicles is sadly.... too underated and even in Japan it isn't doing entirely too well. Hopefully the new re-release with a lower price will attract more sales, because I think the game is indeed exceptional. As for White Knight.... well, the media indeed has given it alot of mixed reviews. Many said its bad, some said its as good as it'll get and some says its the best PS3 RPG yet. It sure is doing damn well for first week sales in Japan though. |

QUOTE(SSJBen @ Jan 7 2009, 03:15 AM) Don't put it that way. Because in that case its like saying western devs shouldn't even be creating games in the first place. I don't know how sidequest is makes thing confusing, I mean it's in almost every RPG these days, J or W. Wasn't that considered a must no matter what type of RPG it is? As much as I despise western RPGs, you need to give them due credit. What you got out of JRPGs in the first place was all drawn from the very first Dungeon and Dragons board game, which is a western RPG. Western games do get more publicity because of the deep pockets western publishers has. Japan still sticks to their own country, but its a beginning trend now that Japanese devs and publishers has realised they have been overtaken by the west. The problem with western RPGs now a days is that they tend to think creating your own character and giving him/her the stats you want will make it a very customizable game. Problem is that in order to alleviate leveling up issues, side quests need to be implemented. This does make things very tedious and it makes the story confusing. Something which many JRPG enthusiasts hates, we just want to get along with the story and level up like no tomorow with random battles. I'm one of those that enjoyed western's new take on RPG. Don't get me wrong, I played JRPG, a lot, back in those days on my GBA, as it seems to be the only genre of games that ever worth playing on that platform. But the oversaturation of it kinda backfired a bit on JRPG. I gotten sick of it. Gotten sick of button spam "A" to speed through tons of dialog, which gets ridiculously predictable after you played a few JRPGs in a row. Western's take on branching storyline give interesting motivation to replay the game, and there's still no sign of oversaturation of it on the market, which is a good thing as western market mostly dominated by shooters which always make RPG a more "minor" game. give me just enough fix to play one(or maybe 2) WRPG a year. |

JRPG or WRPG... No matter.. As long as its a good RPG then I am sold..Both of it have their good points..
Hmm...still, looking at how the sales goes for JRPG in western country.... I think you better just get a PS3... Also, since most of the RPG are multi platform except for Lost odyssey and Tales of Vesperia. But Valkyria Chronicles is PS3 exclusive.. and all PS3 games are region free too..So, I suggest you get PS3 first before you get Xbox... QUOTE(lilko @ Jan 1 2011, 10:25 PM) Hmm.. But I thought RPG is all about the heavy story element in it... Well, maybe you like a briefer story which the WRPG cater for.. People have different taste after all.. I don't think it is brief at all. Asian RPG receives heavy influence from Asian drama, in which they like to take the story of a big picture plot and take it there using personal relationships of characters to carry it. I don't like this approach in a lot of Asian drama where they tackle relationships between father/son/wife/sister while there is an ongoing war. In the end the big plot taken the back seat for the character relationships. I totally rage quit watching Hong Kong Drama after Feng Sheng Bang years ago(mother/son families when there are whole lot of deities fighting a war for the world, how did they get away with that!!! Don't take me for a gamer that love quick fix. I like quick fix. But I'm also a 100% completionist when it comes to play games. I like to do every quest, max out my levels, and gain every trophies when playing a game. These thing(charater relationships) can be more tactfully done by making them into side quest. Try Mass Effect 2. I can choose to screw around with my team relationships when I want, and proceed with the main big quest when I'm ready(Mass Effect 1 done it better). I don't want to look at sisters quarel when I am expecting the next stage of the big picture. I'll take care of both of them when I'm ready This post has been edited by sjneow: Jan 5 2011, 03:18 PM |

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Lol.. I should correct myself, its not brief story.. Its more the story where you can control you situation rather than going through with the character's fixed personality and their dilemmas.. So normally cutscenes aren't that long too.. Haha.. You watch Feng shen Bang? Well, I recomend you not watch HK drama if you dislike their generic drama... But, I do not think Japanese game developers give you such deterring drama.. I mean its more straight forward.. But with allot of quirky scenes.. Well, Mass effect is nice... but both of them have their pros and cons... switching between them is actually kind of refreshing.. WRPG except God of wars normally has limited movement while action JRPG got more.. or else they give you a old school time still turn base.. dangling sweet in front does not feel that good though.. Hey bro, it doesn't matter what console you choose honestly.
Just check out which console have the most RPG games that you might find interesting, and than dig it out... IMHO, at the moment, the PS3 has more RPG titles than xbox360. that's just my opinion... |
