Yes. NDS has the best JRPG line up, but console wise it seems 360 has a nice line up. I myself bought Infinite Undiscovery.

Next gen JRPGs getting less and less attractive to me.. I still think 16/32 bit era had the best line up

I totally agree.
The 16 bit era we saw birth or expansion of legendary JRPG (Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG...)
the 32/64 bit we have Zelda Ocarina of Time, Final Fantasy series...

Could it be the shifting of market focus from Japan to US by game companies,
that has caused the declining JPRG line up? I wonder....

I think too much focus now on the system for newer JRPGs.. I prefer the old school style JRPGs, basic leveling up and few jobs to choose from

True enough.

Especially now that western RPGs has taken charge, its absolutely boring. Western RPGs, no offense here IMO they are just too darn boring to play.

Western RPG=no cool/beauitiful characters=no turn base battle=no story=no plot(hero save the princess or world=no beautiful ost and background music=booooringgg!

Why would the westerner want to make an RPG?Just leave it to the japanese to build the game and they should just concerntrate on FPS,SLG,Action. etc.RPG are meant to be made by the Japanese only.

The problem is even Japanese developers are making JRPGs to play like WRPGs these days.. and the lost quite a bit of JRPG lovers and couldn't reach most Western audience. Both head couldn't reach a shore sweat.gif

Don't put it that way. Because in that case its like saying western devs shouldn't even be creating games in the first place.

As much as I despise western RPGs, you need to give them due credit. What you got out of JRPGs in the first place was all drawn from the very first Dungeon and Dragons board game, which is a western RPG. Western games do get more publicity because of the deep pockets western publishers has. Japan still sticks to their own country, but its a beginning trend now that Japanese devs and publishers has realised they have been overtaken by the west.

The problem with western RPGs now a days is that they tend to think creating your own character and giving him/her the stats you want will make it a very customizable game. Problem is that in order to alleviate leveling up issues, side quests need to be implemented. This does make things very tedious and it makes the story confusing. Something which many JRPG enthusiasts hates, we just want to get along with the story and level up like no tomorow with random battles.

i'll stick with JRPGs franchises like, tales of,
recent games like Eternal Sonata, Tales of Hearts, Shining Force Feather are all using anime RPG systems.

And I still support them, currently i think Namco still did the best JRPG till today. Just my opinion though, FF series is just getting too overrated sometime. sweat.gif

Really?

I think Atlus does a better job. Their Persona series is more than enough to speak for themselves, and I'm not even going to go into their either SMT spin-offs.

you want handheld or console? if you are outgoing people that keep going out, nds is not a bad idea, but if you want to view it in stunning graphic, 360(current game)/ps3(future game) is your way to go

A good J-RPG is not about on which console it is played. It is about the good gameplay, storyline and the sidequest. I can still say that Lunar series(Silver Star & Eternal Blue) is the great rpg that I ever played compared to the 2nd and 3rd gen console's rpg even though the graphic is very outdated and lame. The battle system is simple yet sophisticated.Wide exploring area i.e. dungeans and world map, good, well composed and romantic storyline, great soundtrack(be it in japan or english) and of course the anime cutscenes are beautiful especially the character design is done by Yoshiyuki Sadamoto(Neon Genesis Evangelion)
