if you want 3G & GPS.. then go ahead..

if you are not one of those fans.. then just wait.. maybe they will release.. iphone 4G?? lol

if you want ur iphone in white.. then u should change as well..

personally.. if you already have 2G.. just stick with it.. unless u have $$ and dont know where else to spend.. tongue.gif

Incase you drop the phone,iPhone 3G you consume you lesser money to repair, since the LCD and the glass didn't stick together. And those 2G case already stop produce.....but if got money,i think you should wait for upcoming macworld then decide wheather you want to change or not.

agreed with psyntium.
if u really need GPS and 3G on the iPhone then grab an iPhone 3G.
if not then just stick with the first gen.

I do not speak for most but if you ask me whether the upgrade is worth it or not, it is worth it if you're on unlimited 3G where you do not worry about WIFI hotspots at all. You're basically online 24/7 if you wanna to. But if you have access to WIFI at your office, home and most places you go to, then the upgrade does not really makes any difference xecept for GPS.

not really. it is NOT just about the 3G and GPS. making a statement like that is just plain naive.

i'm currently a maxis subscriber and i can tell you the number of "failed calls" that i got on my first generation iphone, nearly caused me to smash the unit straight to the wall; it is so blinking annoying.

ever since porting over to an officially unlocking 3G unit, i never had anymore problems like that. i would rather pay more for an (officially unlocked) 3G version for two very obvious reasons; there is no such thing as an officially unlocked version for the first generation and no more playing hide and seek with the firmware release.

hold ur horses man.... throwing things doesnt make it go away.. hohohohoho...

ok back to the topic....

i do agree with mr nokia2003 about the hide and seek thingie.... i mean everytime the new FW comes out the iphone 2g users have to depand to the dev team to alter and unlock the iphone 2g....
but as long as ure happy with it like tht... then by all means... go ahead....
but for person like me, i hate waiting if i can do something about it....

my opinion only!

mmm...myb it depends on area.
in my area, maxis is shitty either on 3g or non 3g, across all devices, not only restricted to iPhone. not only failed calls, incoming call also need to be done 2 times or more in order to get me connected with the calling party.
but when i'm in some other area, my first gen iPhone got no prob with maxis afterall.

btw if TS is using other telco service then there is no much to worry about.

set that aside, i'm just intending to tell what will roughly TS gain by migrating to iPhone 3G, and if TS needs GPS a lot and use 3G data a lot too (moreover if TS is currently subscribing to unlimited data) then it's really worth to switch to the new iPhone 3G.

btw yup, looks like this is important too. do u currently facing dropped calls on your 1st gen iPhone? then myb u wanna check first if the problem can be rectified by using iPhone 3G in your area. as for me it doesnt give any difference across all devices if 'the network' is the problem.

just my opinion.

basically everyone had bring out their point...for me, i m using iphone more than yr...sometime do facing some calling issue (hardly), i still very happy with it n i jus using FW 2.1 for 2G iphone....no need upgrade to 2.2 as some prons n cons...

myself do not switch to 3G iphone becasue:

1. i do not need to surfing everytime. almost sit in office everyday d....
2. i still prefer garmin XT
3. i prefer alu case rather than black/white plastic case.
4. i feel 3G iphone is thicker than 2G

just my 2 cents...

thx

p/s: personally i dun think price will drop below 1k lol.... smile.gif

well the problem is upon returning from the uk, i signed up for a maxis postpaid immediately thereafter and migrated from my blackberry pearl to the first generation iphone. hence i always had this misconception that maxis is just plain nonsensical and i just had to bear with them since it was contract afterall.

however to my dismay, upon using an officially unlocked SingTel 3G unit, all the-extremely-retarded-"call-failed" problems vanished overnight, which also explains why i'm still tentatively with maxis despite lapsing my tenancy.

doesn't affect me much as the maxis coverage over the areas which i usually patronise seem to be unaffected. as for the maxis 3G strength and speed, i typically get about 1xx kb/s download speed with DAP (and i have shown the print screen to frozzbyte before)

U need to remember one thing ... its not the phone, its the line.

Last time when u were using the 1st gen iPhone, its on GSM whereas 3G iPhone uses HSDPA. So that can explain the "Call Failed" when u were on 1st gen iPhone. I did experience that with maxis last time but no more when using Digi. Maxis is gearing more to HSDPA that they might be forgetting the older network.

Thats just what i think la.

Added on December 29, 2008, 1:55 pmAs for TS ... it boils down to "want" or "need".

U "want" an iPhone 3G for .... i.e just to show off, becoz everyone getting it, you have tonnes of extra $$$ etc etc

or

U "need" an iPhone 3G for ... i.e you're on unlimited 3G package so u don't want to waste it, you need GPS, the old phone is waiting time to kaput etc etc

Only you can decide if you need to change it based on your own preferences.

yes i know. we are actually debating on the line and not the iphone as we are bringing the point that maxis is bad in general.

Here's a fun read.

To be honest, I have to agreed with what nokia2003 started. The unlocking thingee is the killer. With an officially unlock phone, you don't have to worry about upgrading your firmware blah blah blah. Less headache icon_rolleyes.gif

Don't you want to install 3rd Party Programs? We need to Jailbreak to get Cydia or Installer.
