U need to remember one thing ... its not the phone, its the line.

Last time when u were using the 1st gen iPhone, its on GSM whereas 3G iPhone uses HSDPA. So that can explain the "Call Failed" when u were on 1st gen iPhone. I did experience that with maxis last time but no more when using Digi. Maxis is gearing more to HSDPA that they might be forgetting the older network.

Thats just what i think la.

U "want" an iPhone 3G for .... i.e just to show off, becoz everyone getting it, you have tonnes of extra $$$ etc etc

or

U "need" an iPhone 3G for ... i.e you're on unlimited 3G package so u don't want to waste it, you need GPS, the old phone is waiting time to kaput etc etc

Only you can decide if you need to change it based on your own preferences.
