QUOTE(andy_woody @ Sep 18 2009, 01:46 PM) I am also interested in joining ship, can you please advice me for my case? bro misc freeze of hiring seagoing stuff due to economic slumpI am 30 this yr and holding a degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering with almost 8 years working experience in semiconductor industry. How can I get myself hired as an Electrical Engineer on board. I heard that there is a 6 months course(is it Modular Course?), where i need to attend so that i could join ship. Btw, do you know about Electrical Engineer's pay on board for a start like my case? Really appreciate for your inputs. Andy This post has been edited by saikomatic: Sep 21 2009, 10:11 PM |

guys, i looked across another oil and gas thread and they are worried about the decreasing of crude oil volume in malaysia... just wonder this might slightly effect our career in future, those who ll or now be working on board for LNG and tankers, malaysian crude oil capacity will be last until 2013, i dunno how true is this statement... any opinion from the seniors or anybody knows about the this? worry lol.. |

hi guys,
can anyone explain me what about the c.o.c? if i am not mistaken we have to obtained a marine diploma and undergo certain sea time before attending the oral examination at marine department in order to get the c.o.c... and once we passed the interview then we are competent to work in a vessel... that is the moment our salary increment counts... actually c.o.c several level or stages like I,II and III if level I we are only qualified to work on board for ship voyage less than 750 kwt from coast... is it a must to obtain higher level of c.o.c if we want to work in far going vessel please correct me if im wrong...im quite confuse about this.. is it true the increment per year for misc is 30% of current basic salary? everyone have the info please advise.. |

QUOTE(Nnigue @ Dec 21 2009, 08:47 PM) Sorry, can't find. Mind giving me your opinions? The structure of SMA DME course seems to be different from the one offered at ALAM or PUO. I've read through all 60 pages of this thread. Very informative. why dont you try ranaco..the fees much more cheaper than alam..here the link : http://www.reti.edu.my/ |

QUOTE(Nnigue @ Dec 22 2009, 08:55 AM) well,im working as on board electrical officer for aet..what can i tell you is that most of the shipping co are trying reduce operation cost by hiring cheaper foreign manning from indonesia, Filipino and myanmar..so then in next 5 years malaysian seafarer is becoming lesser due to the cheap pay in order to get more profit.. if you keen to have this seafaring job, then you should adapt with their culture and know how to mix with them..even in my ship there always sea staff from india and philipino working on board.. the most higher pay for is staff at this moment is tanker pacific and mearsk.. QUOTE(sacai_nownet @ Jan 3 2010, 09:38 PM) it all depends which academy u come from. thanks for the info...i met a person working with misc for 15years finally quit because he need to spent time for family..i dunno what is his rank but he started join in as a cadet..semester 3&4 for alam cadet is about usd 200 or rm 700 but then again, it depends on which kind of vessel(different size/type has different amount of allowance), sometimes employer gives foreign ojt cadets more salary, reason, they aint fully sponsored like alam cadet, currency deflection, performance etc .. after graduated, aet will usually promote their cadets as pre-4th engineer, basic is 1200usd..after official as 4th engineer...it's 2200usd + other allowances .. for MISC, worse abit, after diploma, will work as senior cadet, no basic ..just allowance ...that's all i know. if perform then only can be 4th or junior engineer for every extra workload there is an allowance u would get...so i would say it is worth..but very subjective as the workload might be okay for others but tough for another. he just give some advice that actually the tanker crew is much more exposed to the hazard of chemical/crude oil to your health compared to the container fleet..its meant that container fleet is much more safer..just only take 5 years time to work in tankers then try to shift to cantainer ship...and make sure do the medical checkup own self after sign off even misc dun provide any... 2200usd for basic if plus allowance somemore can earned rm9-10k leh...its really worth it..but i cant get the tiredness is your mental part or physically? lets compare if we need to jog for how many round each day in bukit jalil track to tele with the daily onboard tiredness? |
