I've tried overclocking my cpu to 2.72 ghz and it was stable @ stock voltage. Then i try to set my FSB to 1333 , the computer does boot up , but the FSB rate is automatically set to [Auto] in bios after rebooting. I do have my voltage increased to 1.35 V , HT - 1.36V , DRAM - 2.1V , NB- 1.4V , SB - 1.6V,yet i've also disabled the Saving power features in configuration. However, i tried to set it back to my 2.72ghz configuration, but the bios still set the FSB back to [Auto]. The bios keeps reseting the FSB rate to [Auto]. What should i do to stop it?

CMOS has been reseted , but im still getting the same result. Bios does save Voltages and others , but the FSB and Memory MHZ will be reseted to [Auto] which is default without showing any notice. ><

All asus board have this problem when it detects wrong voltages selected, setting [AUTO] is useless when u r overclocking on this board. I've been having this problem on my P5N-D for quite sometime before i figure it out. In order to pump up the FSB, u need to raise the NB, HT, SB voltage in order to keep the board at the settings u want or the BIOS will reset or fail to POST.

For Example:
I'm using my E8400 @ 3.8ghz now, with 4 ram modules (if u have 2 modules, u can set the NB, HT to lower)

NB: 1.52v
HT: 1.52v
SB: 1.6v

CPU: 1.3125 (with vdrop its 1.264v)
RAM: 2.11v @ 4-4-4-15 timing
FSB: 1688mhz @ 422mhz ram speed (sync mode, 1:1 ratio)

Note: Check your ram voltage first before pumping it high.

You are sure NB 1.5v? Normally it needs not exceed 1.35v.

No way 1.35v is enough for 4 ram modules on nvidia 750i chipset. The default is 1.32v if set to [AUTO]

as long as theres a fan slapped onto the NB heatsink to keep the temp down. it is ok.

it reset the fsb to auto because your OC is fail, this is the CPR function form asus board, it allow u to boot without manually reset the cmos..

I've already updated my bios in the first place.

My first try was successful and i tried to reset it to the configuration same as my first time oc , but it still keeps changing back to [Auto].

CPR function will reset everything including voltages and others, but apparently only the FSB is set to auto and others setting are still being saved, therefore i dont think CPR is the problem.

This mobo is decent in oc'ing if im not mistaken , there are many people who have been successful to overclock to 3.6 or higher ghz by using this mobo.

it reset to default for all setting when serious failure i guess, for small problem, i revert back the fsb only if i not remember wrong. because everytime i fail it boot at stock fsb and i can continue OC from there, no need to set all setting again..

Try this, set 1200FSB first then raise on 20FSB incremental each time till it hit 1333FSB,might help biggrin.gif

around 4x C

EDIT: Im curious why the voltage shown in cpu-z and other softwares is 1.240V , but my BIOS voltage is set to 1.31V , seems weird. hmm.gif hmm.gif , Does anyone know how to fix this?
icon_question.gif
It does work after the CMOS battery is taken out , but however when i tried OC few times , the AI will automatically disable the FSB option by setting it to Auto always.

May i know what voltages should i fill in below the list?

Core V:
HT V:
DRAM:
NB V:
SB V:

It does help me revert back to Auto , but after that i wont be able to change the FSB , it keeps changing the option to Auto.

This method works , but still having the voltage problem stated above. hmm.gif , im afraid the BIOS will be reseted again if i go any higher FSB , since the voltage seems stuck @ 1.280V
