More bull****s from Activision

http://kotaku.com/5398255/activision-impro...2-pc-complaints

QUOTE
On an earnings call today, Activision president Mike Griffith said his company is "not overly concerned" about gamer complaints regarding the lack of support for dedicated servers in the PC version of Modern Warfare 2.

"We're, of course, watching this very carefully and paying attention to it," he said in response to a financial analyst asking about the impact of the loud complaints among PC gamers.

"But we're not overly concerned about it," he continued. "One of the problems with our PC SKUs in the past is that it has not been as friendly a consumer experience in terms of matchmaking and online play as the consoles have allowed it to be. Our solution here improves that consumer experience overall by a significant margin. And so we we think that the benefits we will see are going to far outweigh any negatives that seem to be surfacing."

In a chat on the Best Buy forums this week, Infinity Ward representatives offered were short on specifics about the lack of dedicated servers, but studio veteran Mackey McCandlish did say: " Our goal is to provide the best experience for our users, so nothing is ever "off the table". We are always evaluating our options."

Gamers upset about the lack of support for dedicated servers feel their play experience will be diminished as they lose options to control their own private playing environment. Infinity Ward has maintained that more players will better be able to find good matches they can enjoy.

I think IW are taking the term "The minority shout the loudest" to be fact instead of an approximation based on their constant assurances that they're doing this for the good of the players.

I don't think so... If that were the case, they wouldn't even have bothered with IWNet and would've just stuck with GfWL.

If not, they should have known that dedicated server is the way to go for MW2.

Thing is, if it was going to be more console, they would've just done a straight port with no need to do development for IWNet. Hell, they wouldn't even need to say anything about it now until the game came out. When CoD 3 was dropped from the PC, they didn't even bother to justify why that was the case. Also, they don't even seem to be doing any form of "damage control" with their press statements.

And I've never known IW to be so aggressive with their marketing, so I'm really really REALLY wondering what the hell is going on here.

Precisely! Nobody knows what is their motives for doing all this as I dare say this is quite unprecedented in the history of PC gaming.

That's why instead of continuing to rage over the issue, I'll just wait and see what happens.

Yea,if they just show a video on how MW2's IWNet work, the rage would have died down,or at least watch what they say in interviews where all their staff are making themselves look dumb, especially Robbert Bowling.

They're probably trying to eliminate its competition.... mainly DICE. Since there will be beta for BC2 in December, IW just need to say "we haz dedi servers" and BAM! Everyone will come back to MW2.

Just a wild story. xD

You know what IW reminds of me now,an annoying troll from /k that wants to piss off everyone just for fun. It's either they trolling around for some unknown reasons.Or they have completely lost touch with PC gaming which i find it hard to believe.

I did realise that this is a bit strange as they are intentionally screwing their players openly while their competitor is taking the chance to win the hearts of their angry players like DICE.At the same time, their other competitors like Valve,EA,Runic are releasing their games at the same time.Shouldnt they do something to make the players to buy their game than their competitor's one? Doesnt make sense to me at all.

Still, what are the chances that MW2 is gonna be good, especially with the MP side? There are FPS games out there that use P2P,their MP died in a month as no one wants to play over a laggy system.

I'll await people review of the mp. They claim IW net is build on non-profit motive to provide the best gameplay experience (p2p). we shall see.

Lol, id (creator of Doom) says that they will follow like MW2 and not include dedicated servers on Rage, their upcoming game.

This is a very bad trend.

Dedicated servers are getting dropped in almost all FPS games now.
