honestly, u can't. you'd have to polish the back and that means chipping off the paint. we don't want that now do we. u can try brushing the back. give it a brushed metal effect. i'm not sure if this voids warranty but if u're out of warranty, give it a go.

how often does problems occur on the ipod. my warranty is expiring in 3 weeks and i am contemplating whether i should get acpp. if the extension is for 2 years, i wouldn't hesitate at all like for my imac. an extra 1 year seems too short. anyone with the old gen ipod touch would like to share their problems?

the only problems i've encountered so far are software related. restore and it's fixed

today marks the last day of my warranty cover for my 1st gen ipod touch. i hasn't even given me the slightest of trouble but i'm really worried about the next 1 year. i didn't bother to purchase applecare since its only for 1 yeas and costs 200 bucks. thats like 20% cost of the ipod.

anyway, my biggest concern is my battery. how much is the replacement cost if i were to send it to apple? and can i do it cheaper externally?

i am just disgusted with apple. i tried to restore my ipod due the constant lagging and got an error 1604. now my touch is stuck in recovery mode. i tried almost all the methods googled and none seem to work.

i sent it to machines and they said it was a faulty memory. they quoted 1000 bucks for the repair!! the warranty just expired 2 months ago. do they really expect ppl to buy new ipods every year? this is just too much. i was prepared to fork out 400 bucks which imo is already overpaying. i thought flash memories last longer than hdd. my friend's ipod classic is still strong after almost 2 years.

i tried phoning the toll free number but their closed. any idea when it's open?

i posted on their thread already. waiting for the quotation.

i'm just angry with how they treat customers. seriously, they want to bring hell to those without apple care. i'm going to try and complain to the toll free number first. please give me a hope

the reason i didn't go for the applecare was because i had to pay 219 for just 1 year extended warranty. by the end of my warranty, people were selling the first gen ipods for 500 bucks brand new. a second hand one can go even lower so value wise, i thought it was not worth it. i'm just too lazy to find a second hand 1st gen ipod right now and the 2nd gen one is just out of my budget

now i'm hoping on 3rd party repairs being affordable or i can get a case number from the toll free line

really important here.

anyone here with IPOD TOUCH 1G with january software upgrade, but bought the 2.0 software? can u restore ur ipod on itunes 8?

i sent mine in for warranty and got a replacement (i tried to restore, ended up stuck in restore mode so they replaced it). the second i hook it up to my computer, it started extracting file and then got stuck.... AGAIN!! now i have to send it in again.

i tried on different computers, same problem. however, i haven't tried on itunes 7. all my family's laptops and desktops have itunes 8. i don't want to get the next replacement only for the same problem to happen again

i got it from the us store. hopefully the new apps will make up for it coz as it is, it is not worth 10 usd for the 1g ipod. really wish i had the 2nd gen one. bluetooth pairing seems interesting
