As a wii owner i was expecting great things from the wii and have been dissapointed .. particularly to the amount of good games on it and of course the online play...
In my opinion the Wii's online play is utter crap... I have tried super smsh brothers brawl's online and have yet to even play a game as i keep getting disconnected from other players in the waiting room and as for mario kart wii it works well half the time but the connection often refuses to be stable and ends up getting me disconnected during a race , after it or again while waiting for a game to start .. as for other games i have yet to try ... any1 have their own opinions ?

Brawl's online system is crap, plus, to get a decent match, you must play locally(like people from MY).

Mario Kart Wii works much better, infact, it's kinda perfect.

Yes, Wii's online integration is crap, look forward to future games and not the current offerings.

Oh, pls dun compare Wii online with XBOX Live,
XBOX Live is way way way more superior.

That aside, the problem you encountered during online play should be your ISP / Internet connection problem,
if you are using Streamyx, you could be sure that the speed will be screwed most of the time.
I don't experience lag, and my DS, Wii and 360 online play don't drop like yours,
probably because I have 2 ISP, and I switched when 1 ISP slowed.

Secondly, Malaysia's location also play a part when u goes online,
that is especially true with XBOX Live, but it seems less obvious with my Wii (Not sure why),
that is the PING issues i am refering to. Too bad these cannot be changed by ourselves.

Also, pls check whether your Wii is located in a wireless Blind spot,
is there walls or blockages that reduce the wireless signal strength.
I tested the strength using my iPod Touch - by loading a YouTube video,
if my iPod refuse to load it - I am in a Blind Spot, (Again, I invented this, not sure it will work for u)
This is the way I located a good spot for my XBOX 360.

Brawl codes should be in the Brawl thread, but we aren't active anymore, I sold my game already(for unavoidable reasons).

Mario Kart? It's perfect because if you tried the other games online offerings(DS, and Wii), they just don't match/compete with MK Wii in terms of setting up a game, and also lag/latency. Plus, even when I'm selecting characters(before the 30 second countdown), I'm already IN a game. It's that efficient, maybe not so now because I played it during it's release.

One thing about DS/Wii online/wifi play is that you may have to configure your router to port forward at times, sometimes you'll be chosen to be a host, and if you don't port forward, you might encounter issues like friends/opponents not being able to join you.

Also, if you're sharing connection via router, having a clear connection would help a lot.

Wii gaming online is rather limited, played Super Brawl,COD without lag and such, perhaps I have my wireless router less than 10 feet away plus make sure no one is hogging the line Bittorrent,Youtube, etc.Yet the experience is rather limited;no voice chat. I think the main strength of the Wii is that there's no need playing online when you've have friends, family near by to play 2,3-8 player mode in many of Wii games.
Being a couch potato,I've never had it better surfing for news, weather, watching Youtube.Using the Wiimote is much better that a mouse/keyboard combo when you have a big screen LCD.:)Tab browsing feature would be a killer.smile.gif

Thats right, i wonder why Tab browsing is not implemented on Wii.

Wii online might not have the fancy function like XBOX Live,
but it works fine for the most part.

Maybe its router related? B4 I bought my router, I found out from some articles that some routers are not so compatible with the wii.

My online wii experience: Call of Duty: World at War. In terms of stability, I would say It pretty good. However I have experienced disconnections but thats not due to wii itself, because on that day streamyx just sucked. Even online with PC was slow. The other possibility of disconnection is because wii matched me to play with someone who is hosting game from Australia or far places, of course the ping will be bad and sometimes disconnection.

Games that don't have dedicated server is like that la. I think if Activision (or any pubisher) would invest to fund some server to be set up Cod:Waw can even play more than 8 ppl online.

But have anyone consider maybe its the game (Brawl) itself is the problem? Maybe that particular developer is not experience with working with net coding especially if the games are to be played with wide range of pings.

Truth is the wii lacks online experience & capability. Look at how cumbersome that friend code system is... I have 90+ people registered, until now only 1 guys registers me back. Lols. Unfortunately friend code is the only way I can gaurantee ALL the people I play with online is from same region & has good ping. It would be nice to "auto friend" people you see online during those random plays. It would also be nice to have the choice to go to which server/host that has the best ping for your game.

BTW. i have the streamyx 1Mb. Router is buffallo 154g. Port forward (I think.. I know I did set it so).

Wii Opera Browser was said to include Tabbed browsing in future updates.. Can't recall when, but I do recall reading it. And I think they might increase the cache limit.

Wiilcome to the Fwiicinating Wiirld of Wii!!!

The easiest way to get yourself online with Wii is to set up a wireless network at home,
and the Wii will detect the network with a few simple steps.

BUT, the quality of online play really rely on the ISP quality.
And Mario Kart Wii does have the best online option so far.
You already have a DS right? The Wii online mechanism won't be too different from the DS one.

The best thing available for Wii online is WiiWare and Virtual Console,
nothing came near to the quality of games it offered.
SONY and Microsoft is not even near Nintendo, when it came to Virtual Console.
WiiWare gave u a breath of great games, like LostWind and World of Goo.
Gotta try for yourself to find out.

Remember, when Wii ask u to select country, select BRAZIL (if u own a US Wii),
then u can use Malaysia Credit Card to purchase WiiPoint.
