I'm now in my new job about 4 months. This is the first full-time job I ever had and I'm quite unhappy with my job. (working environment and the job scope). I'm so unmotivated to learn new things given my current job.

I'm planning to look for a new job after new year but I'm told that the economic now is really bad and it's not easy to find a job now + terminating employment within probationary period looks bad in the resume.

Anyone can give any suggestions on that?

don't write that in your resume. juz write that you're fresh grad then.

if u feel insecure, don't quit first. go look for job and when u got another offer, then only quit the current one.

1st what industry are you in?
2nd there's no such thing as "resigning within probationary period looks bad on resume". The most you need to prepare is to answer truthfully if the interviewer ask you about it. Heck it might even add brownie points if the answer suits him/her.

btw, what is your cause for unhappiness?....care to spill it out?

Why not try to adjust yourself for the new environment since its your first job ?

If you insist want to resign, go ahead. I believe your resignation notice period much less than confirmed staff biggrin.gif

cannot tell industry...the world is small...

I don't like the culture there and I don't feel like I can get along well with ppl there nor ppl like me. (I might have serious personality problem.... sad.gif )
How to transform myself from "little kid" thinking into "adult" corporate world?

I'm getting uninterested in the work i'm working with. This is basically a very desk-bound work and I don't feel like interested in the things of my company.

if you don't like desk-boud work, then look for job that require travelling. so during your interview, you will have the perfect answer to give the interviewer.

If you've reckon that it might be your attitude/personality problem; would it make any difference if you change job?
By the more common definition of changing job, usually it is about resigning xxx company to join zzz competitor doing the same routine; so would you be happy there?
Unless you meant changing job as in getting out of the routine, than maybe I would agree to that.

My advise next time before u accepting to work permanently at any company make sure that company suit ur preferred working environment. I just start my job for bout less than 2 month. On my first interview I went to the office somewhere around Damansara. I manage to proceed to 2nd interview but since the environment of that company not so good for me I've rejected that interview. Now I'm working in an environment that I liked(friendly colleague, nice office, etc). try stay at ur current job for while, meantime try apply for other job.

Economy good or bad, people need to survive and that includes you. Are you able to survive if you are jobless? Even if for a month or two?

If you not happy and found another job. The why not?

But if you just unhappy and havent found a replacement then better not since now more ppl losing jobs then getting jobs and those who are applying right now may be more experienced and better equipped then you are if you fresh grad.

TS should not feel guilty. It's ok if you no longer have heart or 'bo song' already with your current job, moreso if it involves very risky dealings and mistake prone routines.

In bad economic times like now, some companies just can't sack or retrench you for nothing as it would give them a bad name.So the other dirty way is to make you 'bo song' and frustrate you so that you leave voluntarily. It's a way to keep their seat hot and get rid of you while keeping the hands clean.

You can stay on until you find a new job but if your problems continues to accumulate and blame keeps coming at you, it's better to leave while you are still in control than to be given a surprise dismissal with no job.

never quit ur job before u have found another job .. and when I say another job means with offer letter of course..

as for resign during probation let me u share with you my experience ..

this year only I have worked with 4 companies .. I resigned from a GLC on march and joined a software house company .. the reason I gave them is I want to learn new skills and new technology .. I was given 4 months probationary period.. I'm not satisfied with the current company at that time because they don't pay me my EPF and that's the reason I gave to the company that interviewed me.. again I'm not satisfied with the new company because they do not provide a proper handover and so after 2months I left and joined another company with that reason ...

what i'm actually trying to say here.. make sure u have a good reason when the company that interviewed you ask why u want to leave.. don't simply say because I don't like the people there.. I cannot tahan then workload for example la eh... sometimes u need to lie at that point .. just simply say that u look for better opportunity .. that company pay ur salary late.. after all .. whats the point working there if your don't feel like working ..

Do not ever belief or scare if they tell you its hard to find new job out there... There is always a job for you if you are not choosy. It does not matter if you quit after 4 months or 4 days. Just tell them the reason since this is your first job... make sure it make sense. Do not give impression that you are not mature.

Many new graduates have problem coping with the reality world of working after studying for so many years. You will face the challenge of working with those who are much older than you... possibly 25-30 yrs older than you. No more same age peers to mingle around anymore. I know how you feel... that feeling will take sometime to settle... but eventually, you will realize you have "grown up".

wah..resign from GLC??..hehe, well everyone have their own choice, but as oplotot say, don't worry, i oso resign during probation coz unhappy with the company and management (almost 10 ppl resign during my 2 month there) and the field is more to electronics compare my field in mechanical, so find other job after 1 month, and lucky got one suit me well so far, during intvw i just said previous job not suit my field and lack training provided, after dat give 1 month notice (they change from 2 weeks to 1 month coz too many resign)....and i start my current new job..no holiday, resign Friday, Monday start working new company...hahha

but currently due to economy crisis, better u confirm get other job first before resigning, if not really waste...just stay until u get better one...

I feel like resigning as well is because i feel boring about it, i din really have works to do. As i entering this company, i have been boring for the 1st month, as my colleagues also told that 1st month will be free and try to enjoy the honey moon month. rclxms.gif But now almost the end of the 3rd month, i still feel boring. sweat.gif I can't said there is nothing to learn but not much. I feel like joining those software house company, any recommendation?? tongue.gif

Best way is to *try* and see if the MNC can interview you after work hour, maybe 6pm.

Just bear in mind, for MNC interview you are but one of many candidates, usually. So don't just throw away your confirmed employment for an opportunity.

Try to go for it . if you get employment from MNC, you can quit your small co as i believe only 24 hours notice is required. just say the work not suit you lor, best to protect you and your future company too.

Oh gosh... Your situation now slightly same with what happened to me now... I'm already embarked my career for past 6-month and still in probation period. The working environment ain't the issues. The issues were i'm not really felt happy with my current job. Partly because my superior too harsh toward me as I'm can't fulfill her highly expectation. She even din gave any motivation to me as a fresh staff, instead always push me again and again. I'm really suffocated.

Because of that, my passion to work and learn slowly came down till sometimes i'm felt so struggle on it. Yes, i do have intend to look for a new job but slenderly worried with current economic meltdown. So I directly told my boss that I don't have interest with what i'm doing right now and request to transfer another department. She said ok but subject to replacement. Even so, indeed my heart, I really want to change to another company. But scared at the end of the day, sitting at home eating dust only. sleep.gif sleep.gif

Hi..wana ask

if in offer letter not disclosed any termination term during probational period..it just mention termination is 3months notice/3 months pay by either party.

so within probation period did the same rules applied?

coz what iam thinking is probation period should have lesser termination notice compared with after confirmation right??

Hi there!

"triad", all you need is to do is READ and ASK. Read through the content in your Contract of Service (CoS). There should be a clause stipulated with the termination of employment/probationary period.

If you can't find it, just chalk it up to HR Department. It is as simple as that. Quite a typical routine procedure.

Regards, Joey

p.s: I would not disclose the notice period that you should serve and the payments' in lieu strictly because it varies from one company to another.

thts the problem..but afaic the cost of sending lawyer is much more than 3times salary.and new job already started.

n i dun think they gonna find lawyer to sue as the cost will be more than the salary and the company basically manage the stock exchange and i dun think less than 10k giving them too much attention.

you can write down your reasons for leaving and provide a good and bombastic talk to the interviewer, he or she might be impressed by you smile.gif interviewer normally won't discriminate you unless your reasons of leaving is that you had done fraud or you are incompetent

Lol i feel like resign also and i'm also under probation, the job itself is boring and the learning pace is very slow, just knew that company does not give confirmation letter (which means this might take forever under probation), makes me felt like being cheated... and my ccna gone wasted coz the job i'm doing it right now not related to networking and can be replaced by diploma guy anytime... So yeah currently been looking for more challenging yet suit my level that type of job. I'm still here because i get to manage a server with minimal supervision, but 0 training + 0.5 experience, with no other experienced IT staff/colleague to ask for guides in the office. sweat.gif

So yeah currently been looking for more challenging yet suit my level that type of job. I'm still here because i get to manage a server with minimal supervision, but 0 training + 0.5 experience, with no other experienced IT staff/colleague to ask for guides in the office. sweat.gif

Human characteristic laugh.gif the grass is always greener on the other side!

Sometimes employers take us for granted. Sometimes we don't appreciate what we have.

Nope. The grass is not always greener on the other side. Everything has its own price. No such thing as free lunch in career world.

Now I'm working in an environment that I liked(friendly colleague, nice office, etc). try stay at ur current job for while, meantime try apply for other job.

how would u know the working environment in the company before u start work? shocking.gif

Don't care about this low-lifers who worked like dog with brain-dead. They are most likely after getting stress up then go to nightclubs or pubs to destress and further deteriorated their knowledge. If you want to be a useful person. Follow your own principal, acquired knowledge...it will never ends.

wah lao, I am in my 5th month of my new company. I am glad I am not alone. I got humiliated by my boss and colleagues, screamed and shouted at.

Now I just want out. After I get this month's salary, I am going to leave.
