What's this called?

I'm sure its not part of a suit.

user posted image

There's no visible button either. Well, it could be custom made, but has anyone come across something like this on store rack?
*
looks like a black suit to me, the buttons would have been black in color as well, so you probably couldn't see it there.. if there were no buttons, it would still be considered a suit jacket, an odd one..

a sport coat would typically be worn on its own, and is usually of heavier material such as tweed..

a blazer is has a more casual feel, commonly in navy color, and traditionally in brass buttons..

Wow, thanks.

I know you'd scream blasphemy, but, will I be able to get it sub RM200? Which popular place in KL/Sel area I can get this around that price?
*
RM200 for a suit jacket, hardly.. unless there's 70% discount in stores like padini, seed, g2000.. or you probably could get one at that price in FOS or brands outlet..

what do u guys think abt this?
white shirt + striped vest(mostly black) + slacks ?
i wont be wearing a tie,im gonna start teaching at this tuition centre soon and i need to keep it formal
however,i feel like one of my white shirts are abit too plain so i thought i wanted to pair it up with a vest to make it look better yawn.gif
*
a vest has nothing to do with formality..

maybe you could go for a gray plaid vest instead since you said you don't want your look to be too plain..

Looks like I'm not the only one who takes pictures of himself in front of the sofa.

Why do you say unbuttoning the jacket when sitting down is wrong? It really does cause diagonal creases radiating from the working button.

Added on December 21, 2009, 10:12 pmI just paid for this. It will be by surface mail, so will take a while to get here. Only RM280 after postage and everything.

hi, i'm new here. bought a cotton suit, brown or khakis in colour. its fused, 2 button, double vent. i know nothing bout suit. bought it coz its on sale n i like the colour n the material. but i do know this is abit bigger for me. the sleeve is abit too long coz i can't see the cuff. what else should i alter? the fit around the waist? the length? n any nice n cheap taylor that willing to alter this thing for me? thanks~

ohh, i really like jind's "new" suit. any possibility mine can look like that? haiz~

p/s: be nice with ur words. i really don't know anything, so don't scold me.

i think its pretty decent.. shoulders look great.. may be a little extra room at the chest.. length should be fine i suppose since you look like you're able to cuff the end of your jacket..

i see a little shirt cuff showing on your left sleeve so i guess the length should be fine..

is the jacket buttoned in the picture? something looks off there..

QUOTE(kotmj @ Jan 5 2010, 09:18 PM)
It looks OK. At least the shoulders seem to fit. Have the tailor slim down the sleeves, take away an inch or two from the waist, and you have an OK jacket to wear with jeans. Don't wear it with the pants.

jind our resident millionaire's son's suit cost 1.5K or thereabouts so you cannot compare. (But at least you have symmetrical shoulders.)

hello

can someone answer my question?
i'm looking for a suit/blazer (doesnt really know the different) for my prom night in few weeks time
my question is I measure my chest just below the nipple and its 32 inches (i know i damn small)..but i tried zara size 48/50 but i look just nice.. i dont really understand that

my 2 question is while the chest and length is ok, the sleeve/arm part is a bit long...so can it be alter later? and how much for sleeve alteration..

thank you in advance dear forumers
*
chest measurement is under your armpit at the widest area.. this would be your jacket size.. +10 for european sizing.. (for example chest 36", european size 46..)

yes sleeves can be altered.. usually around RM60..

Hey Guys,

I have recently been to this Made to Measure shop named "Mastermanshop" in KLCC, they have got heaps of designs of suits that comes with huge selections of patterns.

After scouting around KLCC, this shop perfectly fits my budget which is within RM 2k, the question i have here would be, has anyone had any experiences in getting a MTM suit in this shop, i was attended by a gentleman named Sam, and he claims that he had been sent to Italy to undergo training in tailoring under Brioni.

I've seen some samples in the shop itself, but i wasn't too convince with the workmanship, i somehow found that the suits in Hugo Boss offers better in terms of design, pattern as well as cutting. http://www.hugoboss-store.co.uk/The%20Jam2...ailored_Jackets

I am looking at 100% wool suit, and i am at 171cm in height and 56kg in weight. I would most probably be getting a navy blue stripe suit, 2 buttons, classic design. Something like this but with stripes http://images.google.com.my/imglanding?q=t...Qv3ruM&start=75
*
how can you compare a custom made suit with a hugo boss ready-to-wear? are your fond judgment towards the hugo boss suit based on the picture in the website? or did you go into the store and try out their suits? besides these are 2 totally different products, one is custom made and the other is off-the-rack..

i've actually got my eye on this alfred dunhill navy kid mohair fabric from, yes british fabrics, but confusingly enough from the picture it looks more like gray, and he wouldn't want to take additional pictures of the material..

hmmm why are "finest worsted wool/mohair" materials like this so cheap at only 7 quid/meter?

These are jobbers. They buy all sorts of 2nd quality, end of run, unsaleable fabrics and sell them cheap. That particular cloth looks to be the right hue of navy, but it's only mohair, not kid mohair or summer kid mohair and it's not specified what kind of wool it's mixed with. I wouldn't buy it myself.
*
yeah the shade of navy looks right to what i'm looking for.. aha i see.. so kid mohair compared with mohair is supposed to be much more cooling? im really interested in the dunhill but im afraid the navy might be too dark.. hmmm..

Since so many of you buy Dunhill mohair cloth, I am thinking of founding the Society Of Dunhill Original Mohair Enthusiasts (SODOME). Members may call themselves sodomists. Alternatively, sodomites. Anyone who has bought a length of Dunhill mohair cloth is automatically a member.

In other news, I have met silencer at ALT this afternoon. I was expecting the worst, that ALT would give him his house cut. But the basted suit was instead a very faithful rendition of my cut, and there was even horsehair in the lapels. There was a very definite waist suppression of the sort that nips in, a mild slant to the pockets, and the trousers are short (just touching the shoe). The back is sterile. Armholes are high, but still not as high as I would like them. Buttoning point is atypically low ... I wonder why. The Dunhill cloth is respectable but not exactly remarkable. The second fitting will be in a few days' time.

I'm pretty confident I needn't attend further fittings by anyone else. ALT really does know what to do if you tell him you want my cut.

edit: I think it will be a remarkable suit.

i demand you attend mine !! wub.gif

Thx hypoxia. Just to explain I got those from Dubai for an official function I had to attend on short notice. I returned early next morning so I didnt get the chance to change it. Yes I would have loved to have got one that suits me to a t but under the circumstances unfortunately that didn't turn out for me.
I did do a search prior to posting this, are you sure anyone recommended a tailor in Klang or Shah Alam area?Would you be kind enough to direct me to the link?
*
good tailors are hard to find (especially in malaysia).. i don't think anyone here has any good word about any tailors particularly in Klang or Shah Alam.. but you could probably head to Bespoked in 1U, kotmj and lanatir swears by them..

to put it simply:

the gorge is the area where the collar and the lapel meet..

yes, an open quarter refers to the high degree of spread between the two front bottoms.. as opposed to closed quarters which refer to little (or no) spread..

example of closed quarters:
