well actually i'm in dilemma too
if UM?USM i will have to complete my course for 4 years but Sunway is only 3 years
like what Blofeld said in the earlier posts it seems that IPTA has the edge as in after 3 years of practice i will be able to get the MIA recognition, however in terms of environment i think Sunway will be better as in exposures and so on
what a dilemma! cry.gif

I am in dilemma whether to take degree or acca.
Some people say taking ACCA limit yourself to prof/accountancy in your future. Some say take degree first, later on work for awhile see whether you really need ACCA or not.

I am not scared of the difficulties, but the subject content!!
If I were to take ACCA, I save time and money, but I might lose more if later on I found out that I don't want to be so specialized/professional.
A degree is safer, but it cost me about 50k more than ACCA and the time... sad.gif

I am scared that I will limit myself in accountancy if I were to take ACCA and I might missed out finance knowledge compared to degree (Ac&fin degree stud).
At the same time I am worried about my age(time) and cost to complete my degree...
I am 22 and I got no diploma, cat or any foundation. Currently working as sales executive.
I am willing to put down my job and give them my full attention.

Why do you think that ACCA only covers accounting? hmm.gif

You will learn finance as well in ACCA and probably in deeper depth compared to the accounting and finance students.

ACCA could cost you more in the long run actually. Don't forget that you have to pay annual fees to ACCA and it's not cheap at all.

Umm alright... I knew that a degree in account is not enough for the job market out there.
Hence, I might get back to ACCA after I get my degree if my degree is not enough for me in my work.
A decent degree would cost me 60-70k while ACCA alone only cost me about 30+k only.

I had no uni experience before. Is it better to go for degree or ACCA?
I look through some account&finance degree program, and found out that some minor subject like marketing, economics, qs, derivatives, forex, portfolio mgnt and personal finance which I think ACCA don't have. In addition, these degree program offer 9exemption for ACCA too.

However degree+acca would cost me 85k+... which I don't really have...
I can go for degree, but I would not have enough money for ACCA...

Do you think that I can learn all those minor sub myself?
Really stuck now.....

Marketing, Econs, and Statistics are not covered in ACCA but derivatives, forex, and portfolio mgt are definitely covered.

There are definitely pros and cons in taking ACCA without a degree.

The decision between degree or ACCA are already discussed many times in other threads. You may read through to help you make a more informed decision.

Yes it does.

You can take a look at Paper P4 - Advanced Financial Management to see what it covers. Click on the PDF file in that website.
http://www.accaglobal.com/gb/en/student/ac...tudy-guide.html

This is the basic finance paper in ACCA (Paper F9 - Financial Management)
http://www.accaglobal.com/gb/en/student/ac...tudy-guide.html

I'm sure ACCA graduates can always venture into investment banking.

But have you considered CFA as well?

CIMA - Cost accounting and management accounting. More towards industrial such as manufacturing and etc.

ACCA - Stated above already.
