Boy killed by Pet Scorpion

JOHOR BAHRU: A boy was found dead in his room yesterday by his parents. His body was in a fetal position with punctured holes around the wrist.
Proper authorities were alerted when concerned neighbours noticed a horrendous stench eminating from the home.
His yellow fat tail scorpion, Androctonus australis, is believed to have administered the deadly sting.

A police spokesman said: “It was like a horror movie. His corpse was over the sofa. He apparently suffered a lot of pain. Initial speculation by the forensic personal were that he experienced seizures. It is a very dangerous animal to be kept as a pet" He was dead for somewhere between seven and fourteen days when his corpse was found.




When contacted, a representative of the Malaysian Scorpion Community said:" This scorpion is considered to be one of the world's most dangerous species. The venom from the scorpion is strong enough to kill an adult man within two hours, and there is no anti-venom available in the United States. It is only for the most advanced keeper, and should not be regarded in any way a beginners' scorpion. Besides the fact that it is responsible for the most human deaths out of all the scorpion species, the Yellow Fattail Scorpion is a relatively calm species when left alone. There is really no reason to keep a scorpion like this unless you are an avid collector. The Yellow Fattail Scorpion is not something to play around with, and beginners should definitely stay away from this species!"

Government officials lamented the incident and gave their condolences to the victim's family members. A spokesman commented:" We will advocate on tough legislation on the breeding and husbandry of dangerous exotic animals. A good hobby will bring unnecessary harm to everyone if the owner of these pets are irresponsible in their action"
