Right then, I will answer your questions from your PM here.

My basic degree is BSc.Biomedicine (Hons) from MSU, Shah Alam. I joined Grad-entry MBBS in India under the MSU-IMS collaboration program with M.S Ramaiah Medical College in Bangalore. Total duration including a compulsory 1 year internship in India amounts to 4.5 years of study, only then the MBBS degree will be awarded.

The syllabus is packed with extra classes.

Subjects during my point of entry (MBBS, Phase II part-1) include: Pathology, Microbiology, Forensic Medicine, Pharmacology, Community Medicine, Medicine and Surgery. Additional classes in anatomy and physiology are given to further strengthen the basic knowledge in the mentioned subjects.

In India as told by my Professors, medical students are required to go, learn and do physical examinations on patients under the lecturer's supervision in the hospital starting from 2nd year as opposed to other medical program around the world which usually allows student to go to the hospital in 3rd year.

In my case, the students are required to practice history taking and basic physical examinations on patients in the hospital (especially in the Outpatient department) under the instruction and supervision of the lecturer.

The advantage of owning a BSc.Biomedicine / BSc.Biomedical Science qualification is having the suitable foundation to continue study in medicine / pharmacy / dentistry in graduate entry programs.

http://www.msu.edu.my/v6/index.php (MSU)
http://ims.msu.edu.my/ (MSU-IMS)
http://msrmc.ac.in/ (M.S Ramaiah Medical College)

Some of my BSc.Biomedicine batch mates have also entered AIMST and Cyberjaya medical college, but then they have to join the normal 5 years program. Some have also went to do a 4-years Grad-entry medicine (MD) in Poland under MSU-ISEP program.

http://www.msu.edu.my/v6/isep.php
http://www.wum.edu.pl/english/ (Medical University of Warsaw)

Otherwise, if you decided not to further your studies, you can choose a variety of health-care related jobs, eg; Medical Lab Tech, Lecturer for DMLT students, Medical Underwriter, Medical Sales Representative, Science officer U41 (Gov.Service), Misc. job in Pharmaceutical industry and so on.

I hope that answers some of your questions. If you need further clarification, do not hesitate to ask.

Hai, Im now pursuing Bachelor degree of biomedical science.
Due to lack of information on the courses, i actually filled in the 8 choices of ipta without much consideration.
I actually not really know or understand biomedical science this programme that moment, so i just put ONE as biomed out of the 8 choices.
my 1st choice was pharmacy, i wanna to be a pharmacist.
but unfortunately, i didn get my 1st choice as my pointer in matriculation was only 3.94.
yupe. i understand that pharmacy is a hot course. and with my pointer like that, won't be able to get pharmacy that easily. i expect that. but i just wanna give mysellf a try.

My hometown is only a small town. i've less friend or seniors who are studying in local u. After matriculation, i was really blur and don't know where to get the information on the courses. there is no education fair at my place. noboby can guide me at that moment. If i able to get information, maybe i can choose to study pharmacy course in private Uni such as UCSI which is not tht expensive as IMU instead of go to study a field which i really got no idea.

And now, im in 2nd year of biomed already. But i still dont know where and what is my future.
Can all of u help me out ? i really need suggestion and guidance from all of you especially those biomed grad.
is there another job oppurtunities other than just staying in lab? or become underwritter?

is a possibe a biomed grad can become a pharmacist by the other way? other than RETAKE a new degree of pharmacy?
or enter MBBS? or how?

thanks a lot.

Biomedical science is an excellent course actually. You can:
1) Do Honours and PhD to go to a academic pathway (teaching and research)
2) Work in the health government sector in which you can contribute with your biomedical knowledge
3) Do med or pharmacy

All three pathways sound pretty good. If you don't like any then you can change career pathway.

CyberSetan sorry to dig up this old post and suddenly pop out a comment here. xD
anyways i am a biology lover. i love teaching and i also love labwork. it seems only fitting that i go for biomedical science right?
however i am skeptical about the job scope of this course. eg, are grads of this course in high demand in the teaching and medical lab world?
honestly income isnt really an issue to me as i know that i need to slowly work my way up the ladder and i really dont mind glue-ing my eyes to a microscope the whole day either.
what do you think?

I have been wondering why aren't many people interested in the Teaching profession... Its not like there is no career advancement in becoming a teacher. (B.Ed -> Masters Education -> PhD)..

If you are interested in teaching, try reading this...

It's a long journey. Without passion you cannot last long in this industry. It's not a money-making field. By the time you are done with your PhD, years has gone. For others, those years can be substitute with other professions with good income. This is life and with high living expenses these days, people have to adjust their priority accordingly.

If I'm a money minded person, I wouldn't be in the teaching line as well.

Alright...

If you are interested purely in Genetics... you should apply for a BSc. Genetics (Hons).

Lets do it like this... ask yourself first firmly... what is it that you want to do?
Do you want to become a scientist? a University lecturer in science? a medical laboratory officer? a medical doctor?

Then we can proceed from there.
