If its unbranded, I myself would not bother doing all the product code changing thingy... it still sounds risky to me and it would void your warranty.

If it was me, get to a NCC with the update. If I can't find one or its too far and the update is not up on the internet yet, just wait loh!

One more thing, to those who may not know or realise yet, dun bother checking for updates on the Nokia Malaysia website (the part where you type in your product code to check). Just plug in to your PC, run the Nokia Software Updater (NSU) and see. In the past, the stupid website has been known to be outdated rather than updated with your update!

How did you check if you dun mind me asking?

Added on July 3, 2009, 10:43 amOk, in my case I updated my firmware at the 1 Utama NCC on Wednesday. But I just tried with the NSU again anyway, just to see what it says, it says my current version is V11 and the update is also V11. I did not proceed with the update after that.

So it may mean that if you just try to update using NSU, you may be able to get it already. I dunno. Worth trying again, in any case. My product code is 0586199.

They open on Sat and Sun as well, bro. Give them a call now, see what are their service counter opening hours for Sat and Sun and then go. But go at LEAST 2 hours BEFORE the service counter close. Please note that the service counter opens later and closes earlier than the retail part.

They dun take in any phones after 6pm because the service counter closes at 8pm usually (can't remember what time for Sat and Sun). For every customer, if not serious problem, they will tell you they need 2 hours (dun care what exact problem it is). So if you go ngam ngam 6pm, you can collect your phone at 8pm. If you go after 6pm, they will tell you too late as they may not be able to finish fixing your phone by 8pm and they dun wanna keep your phone overnight (assuming if you dun mind) if they can help it.

Chill la, bro. Relax.... if you really cannot stand your phone till tomorrow, then switch it off, use another phone first, go to the NCC tomorrow or Sunday, dun go last minute (like I said allow for 2 hours), get your phone updated, and youy will be a happy customer! biggrin.gif

mine oso like tis!!....i oledi checked frm Taiwan forum website....
it's caused by we transfer our contact lists frm sony ericsson to Nokia n97....

Its more likely caused by having the same contact in the phone contacts and the simcard contacts. Always happenes, never fails when you have duplicate contacts in this manner. Clear out your sim contacts and then switch off and switch on your phone again and see whether it still happens.

huh ? the sim contact will have this problem also ? AFAIK , only duplicate contact in the phone memory will have this problem. The problem is not every contact have this problem, only some but it's not a few , around 20% of my 800++ contact. When the person called in , will appear their name , but when sms in, it will only shows their number, quite frustrating as i have to press the call button to check who is the sender !

Yes, I have experienced this exact same problem before. And later on, you may find that sometimes, even for incoming calls you dun get to see your contact's name and just see his/her number only. Yes, it doesn't affect all numbers but only certain numbers and there is no way of telling why. Basically, when a sms or call comes in, the phone searches ALL contacts, including the sim card contacts. So where there is a same contact within the phone memory and the sim card as well, the phone gets confused as to which name it should choose to display (although its the same name) and just gives up and just shows the number only.

So try cleaning out your sim card and see....

QUOTE(mannquin @ Jul 9 2009, 02:25 PM)
Guys, I sent my phone to the NCC and have got it back for some housing issues. But now, I realized mine is no longer a Malaysia version, it has turned to an Europe version. So I suspect the technician changed my product code to get my firmware updated. The problem is, I don't have the Stars Reader on my device and I can't seem to download it from Ovi as I can't connect to it. Can someone help me on this?
*
The firmware is a malaysian version (check available languages and you should see "Melayu" language option there), its just tat its no more the "custom version" where you get the star reader and the sin chew paper widgets. This same shit happened to me when I first complained about the slider lock issue. They say try a re-flash firmware? I said ok. See see no more custom version firmware liao. I complained about this too. They said come back when got newer firmware as what they flashed for me was the latest they had!!!!!

So later they called me to go back. New firmware is here. I said ok. Flashed to v11 and still no custom version and no star reader and sin chew widgets! I din bother to complain after that cos' its obvious that even the NCC dun have the custom version firmware for some reason. I din bother too as the widgets were not important to me. As far as I can tell, everything else is the same except for the missing widgets.

And yes, I tried searching for the star reader widget in the phone's ovi store and I can't connect to it too. I tried getting it from the ovi store website through the PC and it says that the widget is no longer available. Go figure.

So, mannquin, if you really really want the star reader widget and you no longer can get it anywhere else, go make a fuss at the NCC. Bang tables if you have too. Serve them right anyway. But if, like me, it doesn't bother you, then dun worry about it and enjoy the phone. It should still be a Malaysian version, its just not the custom version firmware. As far as I can tell, only the 2 widgets are missing and everything else is the same. There are 2 types of firmware for Malaysia and some other countries (CV and non-CV) out there apparently, from listings of firmware updates that I have seen on various sites, forums and blogs. Anyway, just check the languages option like I said and you'll know.
