Hey , I will be getting my new lappie soon. Its going to use a Vista OS(Though I know isn't any good yet) , 2 G of RAM , 2.10GHz , and NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8400M GS graphics.

I was wondering , would it be just nice to play games like Habbo on it? With less lags? I dont plan to do super-heavy gaming. Just that I want to
play games such as Habbo.

PLEASE NOTE: Dont post things like 'Habbo sucks' , 'Vista sucks' , or whatever things similiar to that. Please post your opinion about it.
Dont be rude here , too. smile.gif

I think this thread should belong in uh Mobile Computing. Anyway , check out the pinned threads there , they give you a general picture

Don't tell me you're going to play Habbo Hotel ? . Habbo doesn't need that powerful graphics , even an on board graphics card from Intel would do the trick. But nevertheless , keep that graphics card option. Its better to have a dedicated rather then an on board. But jugding from what you're going to use it for , the graphics card seems to be bit of a overkill.

My advice would be skip GeForce and opt for Intel if you want more juice (aka battery life) and you don't want the laptop to be hot. A discrete graphics card may "heat up" and they don't give you a longer battery life as opposed to an IGP. Its just my advice. On the other hand , if you plan to use your laptop to watch HD Movies or plan to do light gaming or even have plans to play latest games such as GTA IV ,then its better to have that graphics card option !

You shouldn't be having any problems playing light 3D games. Maybe some games have to be played in "lowest settings". I'd recommend a nVidia 9XXX series dedicated graphics card with at least 256MB GDDR3 RAM on-board GPU.

Care to list your reason instead of flaming a product without details?

8400 and 8600 are time bombs.

Both GC are using a faulty GPU core which cause higher failure rate.I own a 8600GT laptop and in the LYN thread,we have high failure which is about 1 dead mobo a week, average when the model first released. My laptop's motherboard failed once before and got replaced. Then, later on,the smaller model call M1330 also having this problem and that model's owner's complaining their laptops having red lines on the monitor or no display at all after they own it about a year.Their motherboards have to be changed too.

Dell was aware of the problem and they release a critical update for the BIOS to reduce the GC's temperature by leaving the fan on most of the time.

IMO,if possible, avoid taking 8400,8600,or maybe even 9600 when buying laptops, especially you dont need that much power in gaming.

If im not wrong, even 9600 are also affected by this problem.

We are not flaming it without any valid reasons. It does have problems.

Just get the Intel GMA option if thats the case. Not only it would save you the trouble but also it would be cooler

P.S Not only Dells are affected even my friend's MacBook Pro (with 8600GT) is having the the same problem. The motherboard just fails. People say that the whole GeForce 8 series for lappies is a total failure tongue.gif. Its better to opt for ATI or Intel in this case

Hey "prasys", I've got a couple of schoolmates who are on MacBook Pro's all running nVidia's 8600GTs, they've got no problems or whatsoever "yet". nVidia should remake the graphics card line for laptops.

I did heard of Macbook mobo failures.Guess nVidia screw up big time with 8-series.

Dont think so because,if nVidia replace all the faulty GC,nVidia will go burst.

Well, I think that nVidia better do something about it. It's best if they do a recall but as you said, they'll go bust (not burst).

Nvidia merely said: Everything's under control... but from wat i gathered, Nvidia OEM partners are not very happy...

Nvidia already lost quite a lot of money in Q3 2008 becuz of that... can't imagine if they really have a recall...

Actually, not just nVidia is in deep sh*t, most companies are gonna be or are already in financial turmoil due to economy problems.
