For example, if a different person comes in to ask "How do I open an iTunes account" every day for 30 days and opens up a new thread for it each time, by the end of the month we will have 30 threads on that problem with no guarantee which thread has the right solutions. So when a forumer comes in wanting to know how to open an iTunes account and he/she actually knows how to use the search function effectively, he/she is going to end up with a barrage of results. Worse thing is that every thread has a slightly different type of topic header making it even more difficult.
If you've taken the time to read the pinned threads, you would have noticed that davidgary73 has taken the time and effort to organise the information in this iPhone forum to tackle that problem. He takes the best threads that will answer common questions and lists it. So if I want to look up on "How to open an iTunes account", I can just browse through the Dummies Guide like a directory and find only the best threads that provide the best working solution. And believe me, the Dummies Guide is VERY well updated on a daily basis by davidgary.
So wouldn't it make sense to discuss the "How to open an iTunes account" on the best "How to open an iTunes account" thread there is rather than opening up a new topic? It would help centralise the information or else davidgary may have to list 5-6 best solution threads for each problem. I would completely support it though if anyone actually takes the initiative to create a better quality thread to replace any of what is listed on the Dummies Guide.
That being said though, the system currently in place is not perfect. This particular thread for instance is valid because in the Dummies Guide listings, the solution for this problem (iTunes account) is provided in the form of pdf documents and also displayed in text rather than being linked to an existing discussion. This means there is no way to discuss newer developments to the problem/solution other than in the Dummies Guide thread itself or by opening a new thread. As grunge states though, it is not practical to discuss it in the Dummies Guide thread because there is no organisation of information. The best choice was to create a new thread for discussion as has been done.
This is a very long winded post. Hah and in the wrong thread too.
