AMD Announces Mobility Radeon HD 4000 Series GPU

AMD announced ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4000 Series graphics processors at CES.

Radeon HD 4000 Series desktop GPU was a great success last year, and now AMD brings it to notebooks. Ranging from high-end to low-end GPUs, Mobility Radeon HD 4000 family consists of 4800/4600/4500/4300 Series.

High-end lineup includes Mobility Radeon HD 4870/4850, whose specs are similar to their corresponding desktop GPUs. The highest-end Mobility Radeon HD 4870 has employed GDDR5 with core/memory clock of 680/700MHz (2800MHz DDR).

Mainstream lineup is composed of Mobility Radeon HD 4670/4650, while entry-level includes Mobility Radeon HD 4570/4350.

Mobility Radeon HD 4000 Series GPU is set to launch during Q1 this year. Some manufacturers such as Asus, MSI are supposed to bring out relative products soon.

AMD Cuts Price of Radeon HD 4870 X2 in Response to GeForce GTX295

With the emergence of NVIDIA GeForce GTX295, the high-end graphics cards market might be faced with reshuffle. AMD react very quickly by announcing to slash the price of its flagship Radeon HD 4870 X2.

The price of Radeon HD 4870 X2 2GB has reduced from $549 to $449. And some certain partners may be even offering their versions of the product at even lower pricing. In our opinion, AMD takes this step to avoid a direct confrontation with GeForce GTX295.

AMD managed to capture 40% market share of standalone desktop graphics cards in last November, and it’s working hard for 50% now. Apparently, one of the ways to gain market share is to slash prices of its products. This is also a good news for users. Anyway, let’s wish AMD good luck in the upcoming battle.

still waiting for that 9.1 driver its like taking forever..

anyway i would recomended people to download the hotfix for 8.12 again coz it seem like i gain quite some improvement on my gaming fps after reinstalling the 8.12 hotfix...there are rumors saying that ati already replaced the 8.12 original hotfix with a new one since it seem that the page have been edited on 8/01/09..
*
Yes, they've updated the 8.12 recently. Heard it from somewhere

Asus TOP series have good BIOS.
High factory OCed, more overclockable and stable; but a lil bit pricey...
Galaxy is also part of Palit too, FYI. Quite cheap.

mine HIS only can go 670/1100.. very unstable if higher than 670.. maybe because of my PSU don hav enough power
*
Seriosly, it's ur PSU insufficient to draw more power to OC ur gc.
My old time 4850 can clock up to 670Mhz only with Huntkey 550W.
Changed to 750W, then only can even surpass that barrier.

what u guys think about the Gigabyte 4850 1gb OC version with zalman fan can this baby be oc'ed well i haven tried yet just need some comments on this card.
*
Zalman fan's not as efficient as GS/Sonic cooler. It's noisy too.
I suggest to go for Palit 4870 Sonic 1GB for RM919 only from CEX.

CFing 4850 and 4870 is not really a good idea since the result u'll get is actually equal to CF 4850

wanna ask is there any cooler for 4870?
because my 4870's fan too noisy.
*
Urs is Zalman cooler? Like I always warn u all not to buy gc cooled by Zalman. Noisy!
Arctic Cooling Twin Turbo FTW! For me, a dual fan cooler is good for 4870. Just don't get single fan cooler.

It's single slot cooler cos the I/O backplate is taking up one slot only.
Gainward 4870 GS's dual-slot cooler will occupy 2 slots

Generally dual slot is better than single slot due to the bigger size of dual slot.
