At the moment, can't really decide 980 or 870 since I don't seems to know that much difference between the two models. Does anyone knows how much they are sellin for IXUS 980 IS in KL now? Currently abroad so can't check the price. Will be grateful if some recent buyer can advice.

After checking all the replies in this thread, I have came across a few Nikon's model but I need recommendations.
My friend suggested me to get the Canon one because of the IS that comes along with the kit lens.
He said it's more worthy. I'm not very sure though.
What do you guys recommend for entry level? I'm planning to invest more on the lens/accessories to the body.

I am a newbie for DSLR. I am planning to buy my first DSLR within this month. Currently, I am in dilemma between the Canon and Nikon. I went to the camera shop in Sg Wang Plaza and he suggest me to buy Canon 400D as I am new in DSLR. After I compared the picture taken by canon and Nikon, i found that the picture taken by Nikon is much more colorful. So, I went to the same camera shop again to get more info from them. They told me that this is the Nikon style and it is used for the landscape shooting. They also told me that the canon is more to the portrait shooting. Is that true? I am confusing now....I am worry that i can taken the nice landscape photo while i m in traveling in oversea. The purpose that i wan to buy a DSLR camera is use for my traveling purpose. Most of the picture that i take in the trip are landscape picture and of course my own picture(portrait). So, which one I should go for it? Nikon D60? or Canon 400D or Canon 450D? Another question here is what is the latest pricing for Canon 450D(body only) in KL now? The cheapest one that I ask is RM2200. I really needs advice on this...plz....thank you.

I'm looking to buy a camera for general purpose taking and it MUST be small enough to fit easily into a pocket so size is very important but I don't want to sacrifice too much on quality. It also shouldn't be too expensive until I would feel a lot of pain losing it as it will be used quite ruggedly (taking it up to me on my Mount KK climb).

Appreciate suggestions!

Slightly larger models I will consider though frankly when it's too big to put into your pocket comfortably, I usually am too lazy to whip it out

Have been using Powershot S3 for 2 years++, want to go further with photography. The reason i want to change to dslr is because of its sensor size ( better output at higher ISO compared to compact camera ) and flexibility of changing lens based on needs. But I am kind of attracted to LX-3 wide angle and smaller size too. Can I have your recommendations please?

For a beginner, 7 AF points is enough. Too many AF points and you'll start to use your DSLR like a PnS.

Get the D60, or if you would consider Canon, the EOS-1000D.
I'd recommend the D60/1000D for your future. These two are reasonably priced DSLRs and are very good ones - enough to satisfy your needs till L pops up.

As I have posted many times before - Sony is a new entry to the DSLR market so it's not recommended to go with them first - let them stabilise before buying Sony DSLRs.

So which would you suggest?
