Bro, I doubt you'll be able to purchase a Canon 5D with a SC of <5000 including BG-E4 for RM4.5k. sweat.gif

i dont know..

"IS" and "VR" are both the same things.
It's the acronyms that Canon and Nikon use to describe:
IS = Image Stabiliser
VR = Vibration Reduction
SSS = Sony Super SteadyShot
All of them are basically the same function to counteract with vibrations/stabilise...

They're all essentially the same.
Both have 4-stops vibration reduction.

Ok so I put some thought into it and I have decided to go with the 450D but I am not sure which lens should I be looking into.
Should I get the 450d with the kit lens AND a 50mm f/1.8 prime (if it falls in the budget)  OR just get the 450D Body and some other zoom lens ?
Any help is highly appreciated.
*
50mm F1.8 is a half-body portrait lens (generally).
If you purchase some other zoom lens, I doubt it's possible get it at around RM300 (50mm F1.8's price).

QUOTE(zhenzo @ Nov 11 2009, 07:44 PM)
we can discuss about the SC and prices , if there is a 5D+BG-E4
seller can give/open their price and tell me the SC + condition
*
Good luck in finding, mate. icon_rolleyes.gif
The reason I said SC of <5000 is quite impossible is cause my friend who's using 5D MkII has a SC of 4.8k (as of today) and his 5D MkII is just 2 months old! sweat.gif
Furthermore, the 5D is an old FF DSLR, the SC should be even higher (around 15k?).

Thank you for replying.
Do you happen to know the price for the D450 (Body) in Selangor ? As I said I only have 3k-3.3k budget for the camera and lens and I'm hoping for a combination of lens that would work well with events, landscapes and food (and if possible; some macro shots )
Can you suggest a few good lens I should look into ? ( That is within my 3.3k budget of course, after getting the 450D body)
Do you think the 450D Kit and another lens would suffice for me ?
I am not the type of 'purist' users by the way I don't mind using photoshop to achieve something I can't do with only the camera.
*
No problem mate, glad to help.
The RRP (Recommended Retail Price) for a Canon EOS 450D Kit Lens (18-55 IS) is RM2799 in KL.
I doubt you can get *a few lenses* after purchasing your Canon EOS 450D Kit Lens (18-55 IS) under your RM3.3k budget.
Just stick with what you have. You could however, get an all-rounder lens but with the sacrificing IQ (Image Quality) which is the EF-S 18-200 IS for RM3,000 (RRP, Recommended Retail Price). If you want another "Macro" lens, it'll be another few thousands. Keep in mind that photography isn't a cheap hobby and upgrade in time. No point buying all the lenses in a sudden and realize you don't enjoy it and waste all your money.
Btw, the price that you'll get in shops like YL Photo, Boeing Photo, Photo Shangri-La will be cheaper than RRP cause we can bargain.
Example: The RRP of a EF-S 55-250 IS is RM1000 but I paid RM800 for it at Key Color, The Garden. Good luck in your choice.

FujiFilm FinePix 1500FD - 10MP-12X Zoom-Semi SLR - RM690

Kodak z712 is, 7.1 mp, 12x optical zoom digicam RM555

* i didn't find any review on FujiFilm FinePix 1500FD. but kodak get good review. anyway guys is 7.1Mp sufficient ?
*
I would definitely recommend the Fujifilm over the Kodak (My previous Kodak, spoilt after 100 pics doh.gif)
However, instead of both the cameras above. I'd like to recommend the very thin 10X Optical zoom, P 'n' S = Fujifilm F70EXR. thumbup.gif
It's thin, it's new (with EXR!) and it's got 10X optical zoom. Just my 2 cents.

The Kodak z712 is a very old camera. It was released on 2007. sweat.gif If you wanna find reviews on the FujiFilm FinePix 1500FD, look for reviews on the FujiFilm FinePix 1000FD instead. The reason is, the 1500FD is a facelift (newer) than the 1000FD but they're essentially the same. icon_rolleyes.gif

1. I'd definitely recommend the Sony DSC-T90.
It's very slim and it comes in pink (great for women).
It has a non-intruding zoom lens.
However, it's Memory Stick and not SDHC.

2. If you want SDHC + Non-intruding zoom lens.
The only other brand (I can think of) is from Olympus.
However, they're MicroSDHC. sweat.gif

With a budget of around RM2k, it's impossible to get a D300 (RM5k) or a D5000 (RM3k).
Your only good choice is a D60. It doesn't mean that purchasing a DSLR will give you good quality pics.
I've seen pics taken with a P 'n' S they look much better than those stereotypes thinking DSLR = Good quality pics...

Hi TechnoDude94.  Thanks for the info.
I do agree Sony is very nice camera.  The bad part is the memory which double the price of SDHC.
I fine with MicroSDHC.  But any particular model from Olympus?
*
I can only think of the Olympus mJu Tough Series.
They use a MicroSD adapter with the xD card. If not mistaken, the adapter is included.

DSLRs will never be replaced. Heck, people still using SLRs (Film).
If you're talking about the latest technology, then it's Micro Four Thirds (M43).

Canon EOS 500D Kit Lens (18-55 IS) with 8GB SDHC, Bag = RM3150 (Photo Shangri-La, Mid Valley)
+
Canon EF-S 55-250 IS = RM800 (Key Color, The Gardens).
Total = RM3150 + RM800 = RM3950 is cheaper than buying a Canon EOS 500D Kit Lens (18-200 IS) at RM4350.
Difference = RM4350 - RM3950 = RM400. RM400 that is saved can be used to buy 2 branded (Hoya) UV Filters for both your lens.

y must u buy 18-200? this is a lazy ppl lenses, u wont get good picture with this zooming lenses at 200mm or maybe at 150mm++. stay with the 18-55 kit lens and safe $ for to f/1.8 or f/2.8 or wide angle or fish eye lenses. buy good camera buy lazy to walk further to shot is not a good thing.
*
First and foremost, the 18-200mm IS is not a "lazy people" kinda lens. doh.gif
The 18-200mm IS is in fact, a very good walk-about lens. You don't need to carry so many lenses, yet you have such a wide range.
Not to mention, you shouldn't compare prime lenses with zoom lenses cause prime lenses are sharper than their zooming counterparts.
It's not like the 18-200mm IS has very bad "IQ" (Image Quality). In fact, the 18-55mm IS also is a very good lens that's fairly sharp for it's price.

If not mistaken, the warranty wouldn't be applicable in Malaysia because it's local warranty.
Therefore the warranty only applies to it's country of origin (where it's bought).

You could be reading all the reviews available to you through the internuts.
However, one's perception towards that product can be totally altered when they themselves try the product. If you're worried about losing your lens cap (LX3). Get those lens cap that has a string attached to body of LX3. If you need zoom capability, how about adding a telephoto converter (not sure sure about these converters though, they may decrease the image quality).

Any specific models in mind? : Canon 500D, Nikon D5000 and Lumix GF1
Any specific features u want? :
Hi~
Which 1 is best for me? I don't want camera thats so bulky and worth for long term.
Currently addicted to GF1 but the lens is more expensive than dslr rite?
Pls help~
*
Heys, I'm a user of a Canon EOS 500D.
I was caught between the Nikon D5000 before I bought my 500D.
However, I wanted Full HD 1080p recording so I got the 500D (Do note, it's Full HD 1080p is @ 20 FPS).
I don't like those MFT (Micro 4/3) cameras because they're sensors are so small, they don't have good low light capability.
Not to mention that they cost too much (as much as entry-level DSLRs). The price just doesn't justify the IQ (Image Quality).
However, if you want something really small and compact, then, it's the way to go.

QUOTE(Hexism @ Nov 18 2009, 09:14 AM)
ok I have decided to not get the 450d because of budget constraints .
Now I'm trying to decide whether to get a 1000d or d3000.
Will be also getting a 70-300mm (and 50mm lens, probably).
the d3000 has a bigger 3" screen compared to 1000d 2.5", but no live view. no nikon battery grips, would this be a problem later on when i need to get one from a third party ?
Are there any important features I should be looking into ?
Also; if anyone knows a shop around Shah Alam , please do share. Just started uni + using public transportations right now , so I can't just go around surveying easily.
ALSO! what freebies should I try and get the shop to throw in ?
*
Why'd you need such a large LCD?
You should never judge your pics exposure by using the rear LCD.
Most of the time, the pics displayed on the rear LCD don't have the correct exposure.
I never recommended 3rd-party battery grips for fear it may die on me one day if I'm snapping an important event (hence, I'm using 500D + BG-E5).
Freebies that you should bargain for at 8GB SDHC (Class 6) + Tripod + Bag.
Good luck and enjoy shopping.

Don't buy Japan-set.
Buy "Canon Malaysia Sdn. Bhd" set.
If you buy before 31st Dec '09, you're entitled to register for 1+2 years warranty.
Btw, warranty only applies for the respective country. Example:
Canon Japan = Warranty only in/from Japan. (Not international warranty).
Canon Malaysia = Warranty only in/from Malaysia. (Not international warranty).

Hey guys.. I'm looking at buying my first DSLR and now i'm thinking between D5000 and 500D.. Can any guys advice me on this??
*
It all depends on you.
You'd have to try both of the cameras side-by-side and choose.

MP on 500D is 15.1MP.
MP on D5000 is 12.3MP.

The 500D has got Full HD 1080p @ 20FPS (quite slow) and 30FPS would be better.
The recording duration on the 500D is a maximum of 29 mins 59sec or 4GB, which ever comes first.

The D5000 has got HD 720p @ 24FPS (okay only, 30FPS would be better)
The recording duration on the D5000 is a maximum of 5 mins @ 720p, other resolutions are capped at 20 mins.

ISO on 500D can be set at either: ISO 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600, 3200, 6400, 12800.
ISO on the D5000 can be set at either: ISO 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600, 3200, 6400.

FPS on 500D is 3.4FPS.
FPS on D5000 is 4FPS.

AF-Points on 500D is 9.
AF-Points on D5000 is 11.

LCD Size on 500D is 3.0".
LCD Size on D5000 is 2.7".

Pixel count on 500D's LCD is 920,000.
Pixel count on D5000's LCD is 230,000.

From my comparison, you can see that the Canon wins in the:
MP, Video recording, ISO, LCD Size, Pixel count on LCD.

However, you can see that the Nikon wins in the:
FPS, AF-Points.

Do note, MP is just a marketing gimmick.
Anything about 6MP would be enough for an A4 print.
The higher the ISO, the more noise (grain) in the picture.
I'd suggest the only up to ISO 1600 is used in 500D.

PS: I'm a 500D user and MP is Megapixel.

Since you've got the budget for a Canon EOS 500D, go for it!
You can't compare a Canon G11 (P 'n' S) to a DSLR (500D).
If you want portability, then the G11 is the way to go!

@kfmong:
The 450D and 500D are essentially the same.
The price difference between the 500D and 450D will get you HD Video recording capability at 1080p @ 20 FPS (Too slow, 30 FPS is preferred).
