what knda of batteries did you put in? Battery meteres afaik are just V meters that measure the current the batteries are pushing out. But if let's say you stuck in ohhh.. acid batteries instead of akalines, it might be at a certain V level but it doesn't have enough capacity to make the thing run. Well I'm sure some electrical engineer is gonna prove me wrong soon.

acid battery is not for the controller it seems. always use the alkaline battery (energizer, duracell) for it as the current supplied by acid battery is not as strong as the alkaline batteries.

i've nvr used play n charge kits before, but the bars are not that accurate for normal batteries, even when im on rechargeable NiMH. does the ROL on the controller flash occasionally before it disconnects? that's my queue to swap batteries, not those bars on the guide.

the thing about acid battery and alkaline battery that makes it different is the current it produce..
alkaline batteries produce higher current needed for high strain devices like controllers, discman, mp3 players etc.
yes it does shows 3 and a half bars when you check, but is the current is sufficient to make the controller work?
err.. get what i mean? the difference between acid and alkaline?

rule of the thumb is.. anything cheap = acid anything expensive = alkaline plus alkaline battery will always stamp "alkaline" word on the battery..

i've never used acid battery on my controller.. but from experience using acid on discman compared to using alkaline, that's where i draw my conclusion from.
i'm using energizer. only that brand seems to give me the mileage that i want.

As others have suggested the problem might be with the batteries but I don't know for sure.
I've had my controller disconnecting problem for a few weeks until yesterday when I switched from using Eveready to IKEA(lol) batteries. Now my controller runs smoothly just like it should and I don't plan on buying Eveready again.
Then again, I could have been having some placebo effect.

eveready really is one of the most suckiest battery brand out there. get a rechargeable energizer.
