I bought this 20" LCD from ACER for a mere RM490. I did some survey before I bought, and so it seems that most shops do not have this model. TecAsia was selling it at RM429, but it was out of stock.

This LCD comes with all the needed cable to get you started, including DVI, Analog and 3.5mm audio. Other than that, it also comes with the usual power cable. Really simple package, really.

On to the monitor itself. The first thing you would notice is the odd resolution of 1600x900. I would guess that this is for the 16:9 ratio. I was thinking that it would at 1680x1050, as most 20” are at. Anyway, it does have a fast response time of 5ms. Nothing to shout about, as most LCDs these days are less than 10ms anyway. Contrast ratio is at 10000:1, way more than my 740BF, which was at a “mere” 700:1 ! Insane contrast aside, this monitor does deliver.

I did run a HD movie to test it out, and although the movie is “just” 720p, I would say that it looks stunning. The black bars are very small. Almost negligible. Watching HD clips would be a very good idea indeed. My unit did not have any dead pixels to worry of, which means that the panel itself is of high quality. Kudos to Acer for that.

I played Racedriver:GRID, at the native resolution. I would say that GRID is one of those newer games where widescreen gaming is supported. And it does look good. No visible ghosting at all. I maxed out the AA and AF, and it was still chugging along at a minimum 30fps. It was really a sight to be hold. ( Well, not really, when comparing beside a 22” or 30”), but nonetheless, is beautiful.

I would recommend this monitor to those with a low budget and wants to jump onto the widescreen bandwagon.

Pros : -

- Very cheap
- Comes with full set of cables
- 16:9 widescreen

Cons : -
- Not full HD
- No HDMI In
- Long startup time

Pictures added for readers' convenience.

Yup, native resolution of 1600x900. Please ignore the RIVA TNT2 shocking.gif

Bundled cables. Analog cable is being used right now.

looks like those lcd with weird native reolution (acer and viewsonic are popular with that) are always being sold at lower price.

Dont be so scarcatic. If you just pay a little attention to the photoshots, you will notice why. The screen is 16:9 instead of the usual 16:10. This is why you see weird native resolution.

IMO, there wouldnt be any worry about ghosting with TN panel because these panel refresh much faster than PVA or IPS panel. In fact, most people are more worried with the viewing angles, color reproduction and contrast of these panel to see whether its worth buying or not.

anyway, its up to u anyway. pc price dropping everyday de. to me diz lcd is juz a value grab unit. nth to shout out. still prefer T240.

Hi guys, I'm thinking of getting this lcd as well. Just saw it in the papers(star) yesterday. It say it has a built in speaker but I doubt so. It doesn't say so in the acer website. I wonder if anyone has any complains about this lcd yet? Is this a new model from acer?

It's one of the new 16:9 panels. Lower manufacturing cost, so lower prices.

It has a built in speaker, but I did not bother to test it as you guys know, LCDs' built in speakers are best left unused.

One more thing I dislike about this monitor is the startup time.

It take a freaking 3 seconds to show the acer logo then there will be a display. doh.gif

I wonder if 1600X900 is a common resolution for games? Will I be having problem of having black bars at the side or stretched images?

Don't run it at 1440x900 man, run it at 1600x900 which is the native resolution.

It depends on your budget.

if you're on a tight budget, buy this monitor. You won't regret it.

If you got the budget, do for something better. But try to compare directly. the Samsung is HD, while this is not, furthermore, the Samsung is 22", this is only 20"

i had very bad impression about acer monitor, especially the LCD. I don't know why everytime I buy the thing sure it's very fast spoil.

My last 1 was only last half a year then have to change to another monitor which I trusted more, Samsung monitors.

Just bought this monitor. I'm just looking for budget monitor and acer x203h fits my requirement. Just plug it in less than 10 mins. At first I'm quite worry since I'm connecting it to my sister laptop (bought in 2003) I was afraid it won't be able to power the lcd monitor at native resolution. Thank god everything is alright. Hehe.

Bought this monitor for a client, unfortunate sent back to RMA due to.... stand issue. The stand cannot fit due to the "legs" or pegs not aligned! doh.gif I've also checked another unit (demo set) and that one has a different stand socket. hmm.gif Thus anyone buying this monitor, make sure you check this on the spot... nod.gif Now have to wait till after CNY to get this monitor back with a proper stand. rclxub.gif

Its pretty good actually, I've always like Acer's almost pure "white" since I've also had an older Acer 17" monitor (used as work monitor) which is "paper white". The colors are very strong especially the red and green tones. Compared to my BenQ which has kinda "warmer" white and more bluish tones. And compared to Dell ones (the 19" widescreen model), the Acer colors look more vibrant than Dell's somewhat dull looking colors. Its less intense compared to a Samsung 19".. The horizontal viewing angle is kinda good too when going from left to right.. bit better than my BenQ 22", maybe its due to the shorter length/width I'm not sure. icon_rolleyes.gif

many people in newegg are complaining about the flimsy stand. there's one guy saying that if u bump your table, the lcd stand only prevents it from falling forward, but not backward.

is the stand really that bad?

Funny that they should say that. I never bump into my table.

Jokes aside, the stand is a tad bit flimsy, nothing much we (consumers) can do about it. laugh.gif

The stand design is almost the same as Dell, you can see the "leg" design... Except Dell's stand is heavy. wink.gif

More or less the same, depends on how they design the base stand. I have an Acer AL1717, a 4:3 screen, still haven't made it fall despite the numerous knocks on the table when moving PCs around the table. cool2.gif

If you read my first post, a card as low as a RIVA TNT2 can work with this, there won't be any reasons why the 7300GS can't.

I meant Acer monitors in general.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I bought my x203h from Jayacom two weeks ago @RM380

Someone here wrote that his power button is stiff and hard to on.
Mine is OK with power button but volume down is very stiff.
Which means hard to select menu items.
Give me a stiff power button anytime.

the power button, is press from below one, not the usual in front press, at the price of 380MYR, i think it is worth, notice that there is no 24" Acer, only 23" Acer.

Yup! Power button not obvious.
Initially kept pressing amber coloured "button" before discovering real button underneath.

But volume down still stiff.
WD40 maybe?

Old build in graphics mobo (Biostar M6VLR) don't support widescreen or custom resolution. sad.gif
I'm looking for P3 board with AGP now.

Anybody got one to spare/trade? icon_question.gif

Interestingly I can get "unsupported" widescreen setting in Linux but only at slightly wider 800 x 1280 (I think it was 1280).

owner of X193HQ here. same thing as the X203H except for the size right? or technology and build quality also different? anyway, seems that the power button is a bit of an issue here. kinda hard to press with the position like that. use thumb kinda weird, use other fingers also feels weird. anyway, i can live with it cos the price and picture quality is one of the best! rm365 for a glossy 18.5 lcd! by the way, built in speakers are too crappy. but i can also live with it. hehe.

On the built in Trident Core 3D, I only get preset 4:3 resolutions.
No custom available.

On my nvidia, already support 900 x 1600 natively.

Let it run in a while.
I noticed it gets a bit better after a while.
Either that or my ears all numb after listening to those speakers. blink.gif

but it's too horrible... especially when play movies. somehow the volume is low even when i max out the volume level of the pc, the media player, and the lcd itself. but it's only for temporary though. have a new set of speakers waiting for me! hehe.

For me, I would open Paint and fill it up with a few solid colors, namely, Red, Yellow, Blue, Green, White and Black.
The downside is that only the portion where Paint is can show the dead pixels, other than that, it will be hard to spot any.
If you have Everest Ultimate, you can also use it to test the LCD. Ask the salesman if u can plug in ur pendrive to run it thumbup.gif

easiest will be setting the wallpaper to blank, then choose a color.

Bro, no need to use all CAPS. There was widescreen 20"'s. Albeit not so common, but there was.

And btw, it was a 4:3 ratio, hence a 1600x1200 resolution.

The first gen 20", right?

These days mostly 1600x900 already. Hard to find the 1680x1050

ermm...not sure if it's first gen. but during the WS starting trend i've already jumped the bandwagon. LOL...

still, i prefer the 16:10 setup than nowadays 16:9. its too narrow for me esp gaming. plus higher end models are still mostly 16:10. so i might get myself another one if got money.

after some hours with this X302H...
i found 1 stuck pixel in red color.
first i think that's dead pixel, but after some google search, that is stuck pixel

luckily after 2 days, that stuck pixel become smaller, and sometimes disappear, and today, i don't saw that small red color dot anymore.
