please help! Can some kind soul please point me to where I can solve the "no audio" problem on 720p and 1080p files?
I tried downloading Popcorn Audio Converter but there's a trojan horse in there according to my AVG.
I don't have a DTS receiver either! (How much are recivers now?)
Anyway, I just want to watch my stuff on my LCD TV in my room, so the speakers from my TV is more than sufficient for my current needs.

Please please help!

1) Ok, I've converted the audio of my video from DTS to AC3.

How do I then play the mkv file with ac3 instead of dts. I have both .dts and .ac3 files now. These are still in my notebook, have not transferred to my WD Passport yet.

2) Just finished downloading a 7.8G mkv file on my desktop, and am UNABLE to transfer to WDPassport ("not enough space", but I have 230G free space). Something to do with fat32 file..but being very tech challenged, I have no idea what this means.

Would really appreciate if you experts please spare me a few minutes and guide me along in simple english, PLEASE.

Try to search a simple AVR at Hifi shops around your place with DTS function. Should not be expensive if you do not demand for DTS-HDMA or Dolby true-HD AVR.

Ok, this is what I have now:

1) Samsung LCD tv
2) WD HDTV

If I get a simple AVR, this will solve my problem? And audio will still be via my TV speakers? Any recommendation for an affordable AVR? Am from Kuching, but will be in KL in April, so may lug one back. Unless someone from Kuching willing to help me out? rclxms.gif

Alternatively, will Logitech Z5500 work just as well? I just don't fancy all those sat speakers in my small room. rclxub.gif

Please advise! Thanks HEAPS in advance

You don't have to reformat your HDD to get NTFS. Just convert it to NTFS...(always a good idea to backup what u have in there first)

THANK YOU! Just did this. Western Dig HDTV supports NTFS right? File is being transferred as I type this!

Again, thank you!

Added on March 15, 2009, 6:42 pmOk aces, I have a burning question.

I have an old Pioneer HiTB thingy (about 7 yrs old) that comes with 5 speakers and a one-box player and receiver. Will this work with WDTV?

How do I then connect all three together?

WDTV/ TV; HDMI
WDTV/receiver: ?
receiver/TV: ?

Pardon my ignorance again ya?

dude, in the cd/manual it clearly showed the pic/diagram on how to connect ur wdtv to ur home system setup.

For example: ( i presumed ur Pioneer HiTB dont have a HDMI input)

- if ur tv has HDMI - use this as to conn wdtv to tv (as pic source)
and used either optical conn to ur Pioneer HiTB optical input. (as sound source)

- if ur pioneer HiTB dont have the optical input, use the white/red to connect wdtv to the stereo/source input on the pioneer.
(remember to set the audio in wdtv as stereo..)

hope this help..

Hello again,

Converted the mkv audio from dts to ac3. How do I play with AC3 audio? Do I remux (or whatever it's called) again?

Thanks.

Use MKVMerge
http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoolnix/index.html

The tool is pretty easy to use. If a simpleton like me can figure it out, u should  have no problem  laugh.gif

Am using KMplayer to view on my notebook, and noticed that video and audio not quite in sync on 1080p files. Am out of town, so can't test out on the WD. Anyone else experiencing this? Strange that it's ok with the 720p files.

As always, thanks heaps in advance...you guys are the coolest!

I suspect this is due to lagging problem. It is caused by laptop processor not powerful enough to process 1080p movies. What processor and ram for your laptop?  whistling.gif

Let's see:
Intel core 2
2GiB DDR2

Oh, I forgot to mention I also had 2 files being downloaded then. I will try watching again when the notebook is not doing anything else.

Use Media Player Classic : Home Cinema(free) together with CoreAVC (not free) and you should be able to view the 1080p content on your notebook.
*
Ok, will try that if KMplayer still stutters. Big thanks!!

LOL@kianwee

Ok, not sure if this is the place to ask this:

Where can I buy blu-ray files? I know some of you forumers have collections in the tera range. I was also told of sales of 1 tera content. However, I like to pick what I want to watch/keep, and not interested in the wholesale content concept in 500G or 1Tera.

Please PM me! smile.gif

Or mkv?
*
Blurays around 7 -8 gb per movie, or is that mkv? I have "Wanted " on 1080 blu-ray (that's what the file said). Don't mind 720 mkv as well...

Has the "list" been edited...i don't see it!

Mkv is a ripped version of bluray.

Real bluray files are > 20 or 40gb

Hi all,

Need some advice please. Have just updated my firmware. Still NOT able to do chapter selection on MKV files. Do I have to "make" chapters first? Am also not able to "forward" 5 mins ahead. Would appreciate your assistance!

Thanks!

You should upgrade.  Its simple and safe and it adds lots of new features.

Depends on your TV resolution.  IMO 720p is not that much different from 1080p if properly encoded.  I have try many a few movies in 1080P vs 720P, serously I can tell much difference.
*
Am very happy with 720p...just watched "Australia" on 720p on the WD, and it was fab!

You can get subtitles for almost any movies easily.

I just "re-mux" everthing back together except the dts file of course, and all other unwanted subtitles in other languages.
