QUOTE(ProComplex @ Apr 18 2009, 05:58 PM) You can get plenty of stock of the WD TV at Thundermatch in Low Yat Plaza. Bought my second unit there. But be warned - look carefully at the cover - it says there the stand for the HDD is not included! Even though there's a photo of the stand on the cover. Also, the remote is matte black instead of glossy black like the unit I bought from an earlier batch. The glossy black remote is a lot nicer. I regret a bit. I should have got a unit with the stand and the glossy remote. I would say if you go to Thundermatch, look carefully at the box and try to get an older unit which doesn't have the 'fine print' on the cover. They must have more than 100 units there at different shelves so look around. Then you can get the good price and all the stuff which should be in the box. In short - if you want the stand and the glossy black remote, look at the cover and make sure it doesn't say it's not included - if you get what I mean!! I got my second unit, and it came with matte remote, and stand as well, this was from All IT, and was RM389 when I bought it on 10 April.

QUOTE(Exarkun @ Apr 27 2009, 04:17 PM) U guys do know that spindown does not equal to shut down right? Most drives will still have their LED status ON even after the drive have spun down. The important thing is that the drive HAS spun down. LED status is irrelevant. Yup, the LED on my WD passport is "on", but drive doesn't spin. Before the latest firmware update, you can still feel it "buzzing" eventhough player is already "off".

QUOTE(mikapoh @ May 1 2009, 04:30 PM) I am one of many satisfied customer at its price range too. Below points are my expectation to make it a perfect player:- 1) No support RMVB files. (Then again, I solve it by using Ultra Video Converter to convert into MPEG2 or others to play. No sweat) 2) No support 1080p High ReFrames > 5. (To be safe, I just DL 720p or up to 1920x800p. Avoid 1920x1080p. Hope WD will solve in future firmware) 3) No support HD True Audio (Although future firmware cannot solve this, but look back at this price.....No sweat, ) At this moment, I would anticipate improvement in No.2 in near future. No. 1 is for my wife, so a little quality loss is no difference to her. As for No.3 I have to live with it as it is born this way. We have to accept it with this price. These are my 2cents. Lets share what other users have to say about your expectation on this little magical unit. Eeek.....are you saying your wife is not able to tell the difference? Haha. By the way, not ALL women are partial to "lower" quality...hehe.

I think everyone is aware that there is no "perfect" player, and there never will be, as technology advances in nanoseconds. There will always be newer and "better" players out there. What is prevalent is how each individual use a particular player, and in this respect, one would need to assess the amount of respective content, and of course file formats, etc that one views. I was actually first introduced to the DVICO, and it is indeed one fine player. Yes, it is costly (for now), and based on costs alone, I did a bit research and stumbled across the WDTV. For the stuff that I watch, I am one very satisfied user. When WD launches another more advanced player (judging on the popularity of this one), then if the price is right, I will be persuaded to "upgrade", as the initial cost of its existing player is not exorbitant. If however, I had bought a DVICO, it would be another matter, having to squeeze every bit of investment out of the machine. And we all know DVICO will come up with another newer more enhanced player, and other brands will start introducing similar products. So, unless one is partial to playing "catch-up", one should be satisfied with one's choice...for now, of course.. Just my two cents, guys!
Forgot to add...WDTV and DVICO...apple and pear...
hehe

I had this problem with my first HDMI cable, which cost me RM180 from a PC shop. Had to always plug/unplug from the LCD (only one HDMI port at the back). Decided to get another one by GIRAFFE and this one works from day one. The free one I got from Panasonic also works without any problem on both LCD and plasma.

QUOTE(Barricade @ May 19 2009, 03:09 PM) Why can't they make the player able to jump to specific time of the movie? Instead of keeping FF. Damn troublesome I suggested this feature when I registered my player. Hopefully update 10? LOL! Am still loving the player though...!

QUOTE(ProComplex @ May 24 2009, 01:32 PM) Bro, for best results, connect the hdmi output on the wdtv directly to your lcd/plasma/projector and the optical link to your bose optical input. don't run the video signal through the bose as it only has s-video or composite video connections. Very primitive in that respect. However, if you use the Bose only for the audio, it should sound ok. Yes, HDMI to TV; optical to Bose. Should work right?

Anfieldude, thanks. What I did was connect the optical to the Bose, selected AUX but no audio. It seems I have select the "optical input" to AUX, using the Bose remote.

QUOTE(Exarkun @ May 25 2009, 10:03 AM) For DTS, it goes out the optical out because the WDTV has no way of decoding DTS. So it HAS to send it out via optical, regardless whether you set the WDTV to Stereo or Digital. But other digital format (Dolby Digital...etc) that is able to be decoded will come out as stereo. podrunner might be trying to play files with Dolby Digital audio. If he set to Stereo, he will not get the audio via the optical. He'll only get if he connect the composite red/white to the input red/white on his Bose. Set to Digital in WDTV and he'll get full Dolby Digital 5.1 sound out from optical into his Bose optical, while at the same time the stereo sound is disabled. Yes, I set the audio output in WDTV to "Digital", everything working as it should. Thanks!

QUOTE(mikapoh @ May 25 2009, 09:28 PM) Do you guys use 3.5" 1TB external hard disk to store all your collection? Do you recommend to buy 2 500GB hard disk to plug in instead so that not all your movies will be gone if one of them crash? Back-up the big data is a hassle here. I only use WD Passports, one for movie, one for tv series etc...1X 160G, 2X 320G, 1X 500G

QUOTE(lightning69 @ Jun 6 2009, 12:51 AM) You are right. On paper DTS is way superior, but in reality most user will not notice the difference because most user do not have the best of AV equipments to really differentiate it. you can feed the best audio signal to an average equipment and at best you will get average sound only! Then again if you have plenty of dollar and cents, why not go for the best, but if you don't you won't miss that much too. Added on June 6, 2009, 1:04 amSometimes it just makes me wanna laugh when seeing how extreme audiophiles would go. You see a group of them playing the same song over and over again switching between speakers, position...etc, and hearing them say crazy thing like how one sounds slightly better then the others! To me, the whole point of enjoying the music or movies are gone when someone tries to hard to get thing right. I personally feel that the acting, story and dialog in a movies is more important then a slightly less sharp sound of a bullet passing by. But that is just me. I agree...if a piece of music is beautifully composed and arranged, one would want to enjoy and appreciate the music as a whole...unless of course one has a dedicated audio/HT room, AND lots of time to actually sit in the sweet spot and savour every detail. Personally, everyday life takes over most of the time, and I'm lucky if I can get an uninterrupted hour per week to listen to my favourite "audiophile" CDs. I guess when I get older, I will have more time, but by then I may need hearing aids, and God knows what I will infact be hearing then!!
