Just my opinion...i personally think it is not really that crucial to have  DTS-Master or Dolby TrueHD.  So far even DD5.1 of DTS sound has been more than sufficient.  There is no doubt that DTS-Master or Dolby TrueHD is better but by how much and can you really hear the difference?  One must also consider your home theather hardware too.  There is no point if one only have a low end budget system but want DTS-Master or Dolby TrueHD.

the other factor is the file size.  DTS-Master or Dolby TrueHD increase the file size considerably so I don't really need that.  Once again just my opinion.
*
I was wondering, if the source is in "DTS-Master or Dolby TrueHD" for eg, like in BD discs, will it be able to somehow down-sample/process/convert to regular 5.1 AC3 or DTS thru TOSLINK to older AVR that only does AC3 and DTS but not those new gen HD audio.

I am asking this as I do not have an AVR that decode DTS-Master or Dolby TrueHD, only does AC3 and DTS:ES to 6.1. And I considering to buy a ps3 for BD movies. Do not mind no DTS-Master or Dolby TrueHD, but I should at least get AC3/DTS right?

Or all BD movies has regular AC3/DTS alongside with DTS-Master or Dolby TrueHD?

and yeah, my WD TV coming later today... biggrin.gif

thx ExarKun for the confirmation, now its SAFE for me to go PS3 biggrin.gif

my WDTV was hand delivered by avenger to my house at Pg from SP! What a service! Guess what, the 1st chaplang HDMI cable (RM 39) was defective and my pana LCD refused to display anything after the WDTV booting. After 1hour troubleshooting,we gave up and went to buy another chaplang cable (RM 45) to try, happy story!

Now i need to decide which firmware to flash biggrin.gif

the WDTV is now connected to 32" Pana 720p LCD via HDMI, then TOSLINK to my old Yamaha RXV459.

ehm, guess what, I found a few weird MKV that just wont play on my WDTV.

one of them is, Ghost in the shell 2.0 720P, with 6.1FLACs.
old firmware , the audio shown unknown stream, expected.

after flashed to the 04 beta f/w, became totally unplayable. weird.

another MKV is my an old 1080p Top Gear special episode with AC3 stereo.
playable with major skips plus no sound at all.

Basically I re-watched Olympic 08 opening 720p just now, basically just giving all sort of WOW factor to me, now my HDTV does look like a HDTV.

Now I need to find more HD files. biggrin.gif

Try powering off (not power off by remote. unplug the power cable behind the WDTV!) the WDTV for few minutes after a firmware update. I get that weird unable to play file errors after flashing any firmware, even normal xvid avis!

But after powering down and letting WDTV reboot, the 'unable to play' files suddenly can play. Weird, I know.

the non-playable MKV still remained not playable with this method tried few times a day.

v06 so far so good for 1 day usage since flash.

one thing i hate is we cant control the audio 's dynamic range, certain movie is having way big range, and voice/center was low on volume while the effect is huge. not good for late night movie session ahha

now i need a feature request for my WDTV.

the ability to turn off sound transfer over HDMI as I am using HDMI for Video only while TOSLINK for all sound transfered to AVR.

The annoying part now is, its its decode-able format, I will have to mute my TV in order just to enjoy only the sound from the AVR instead of the TV.

bro....its not difficult to mute the TV. We need the WD engineers to work on other critical features..

same as its easy to code a on-off feature tongue.gif

my avr was found dead few minutes ago, so now this feature became useless to me... LOL

For eg:

ABC.avi
ABC[EN].srt

I noticed it wont work :/

How bout if I have a few subtitles in difference language and required an ability to select from it. ehm :/

doesn't work on v07 either.

Media Library sometime useful. Easy for my family to browse for song by album or by artist. For movie I prefer to browse via folder cos I sort by category in my hdd...
I also prefer browse via folder but.... (see my answer above...)

After  upgrading a few times, I need to delete .wdtv in all my hdd to refresh the library... some file appear 2 times in the library after the upgrade...

At this price, I double agreed on the features & performances offered also.
Just buy it if you need a HD capable media player with limited budget.

for no 3, when u said future firmware cannot solve it
is it mean in future WDTV will not support HD True Audio?
not even HD pass through?

dem.. if that the case...
i have to consider to sell my unit and get my self a dvico sad.gif
hope it no true
*
for passing thru the HD audios, u need HDMI v1.3 and above, the WDTV is using HDMI v1.2.
