One thing for sure, if you wanna to enjoy DTS format, you need to use optical or hdmi to a receiver which has DTS decoder capability. This is th eonly way to receive DTS.

For DTS-Master or Dolby TrueHD, WDTV cant  bitstream becoz it has version 1.2 hdmi out. You need version 1.3 and couple with version 1.3 hdmi cable, then you can play those trueHD audio. Again provided your is able to decode True Audio.

Hope this helps.

Whereas Dvico has 1.3 hdmi so bitstream trueHD audio is not a problem. Price wise....is like 4 to 5 times more!
*
Just my opinion...i personally think it is not really that crucial to have DTS-Master or Dolby TrueHD. So far even DD5.1 of DTS sound has been more than sufficient. There is no doubt that DTS-Master or Dolby TrueHD is better but by how much and can you really hear the difference? One must also consider your home theather hardware too. There is no point if one only have a low end budget system but want DTS-Master or Dolby TrueHD.

the other factor is the file size. DTS-Master or Dolby TrueHD increase the file size considerably so I don't really need that. Once again just my opinion.

PS3 can play movie files, and BD and you can load nice
http://ps3mediaserver.blogspot.com/

correct me if im wrong, Im wondering why ps3 user still need wdtv..
*
WDTV can support subtitles select and on/off while PS3mediaserver cannot do it on the fly.
PS3mediaserver requires PC on all the time.
when playing 1080P materials sometime lag.
WDTV supports DTS
WDTV can handle NTFS....PS3 only fat32.

PS3 cannot decode DTSHD...it just send the signal to the receiver which does the decoding. PS3 cannot even play mkv with DTS audio!!! You need to convert it to AC3 with mkv2vob...what a disappointment.

WDTV is not about BD...its about BD copy...get it?

At this price, I double agreed on the features & performances offered also.
Just buy it if you need a HD capable media player with limited budget.

My only complaints about the WDTV is that it don't support rmvb. I personally don't play rmvb files but my wife watch hk series which are mostly in rmvb.

WD mentioned that the best thumbnail size is 120x180...but isn't that a little too small. Is 120x180 optimum for both 720P and 1080P?

If it is the same size for both 720p and 1080p, then it should look smaller on the 1080p tv?

Added on May 9, 2009, 2:09 pmI use to get the WDTV from a seller here at Rm365 but yesterday i call him for the latest price and he told me increase to RM415 now. What is going on here. Where can i find it at Rm365?

You can check ReFrames rate from NFO. Well known bluray ripper surely have mentioned it on NFO. Just download the NFO and read it.
*
I think you don't have to download the all the parts...just download 1 parts and unrar it but you need to sellected the optiion in winrar that to allow it to unrar partial files. Then you can try out the files to see it plays or not and at the same time check the quality.

I found this info about the WDTV which i thought some of you might be interested to know.

A couple of things not mentioned in the handbook for the device.

* the internal DAC is nothing to write home about, but what do you expect for under $200.
* the unit will simultaneously output digital audio on the optical TOSLink connector as well as via the HDMI connection.
* It converts all audio formats except Dolby Digital to LPCM so hooking up an external high quality DAC for your music listening is possible. I feed the output of my WD HDTV box into my CEC DX71 Mk2 and I can't pick the difference from the same CD played back from the WD box as a WAV file and the CD played back via the digital output from my $4000 CD player.
* It will playback 24bit/192kHz WAV files, but they will be downsampled to 24bit/48kHz before being digitally exported via both the HDMI and TOSLink digital connections.
* All audio is output digitally at 24bit depth except (AKAIK) Dolby Digital.
* The HDMI video output supports all resolutions to 1080p (including 24fps).
* You can simultaneously playback audio and have a high resolution slideshow running. Neat.
* If you want to playback any file larger than 4Gb, you must format your external drive to use NTFS or NTFS+. FAT32 has a file size limitation of 4Gb. It's not a fault of the media player it's a MS limitation of FAT32.
* Supports 2 x USB2.0 or USB1.1 devices, including memory sticks.

If you have a problem playing a movie on the wdtv, don't think it always the firmware problem. Sometimes its just the problem sith the mkv. There are so many poor encoding which go cause many compatibility issues. The best is to download from those popular groups like esir etc.

I would stay away from watered down PC as it might have problem playing high bitrate 1080P video.

*
yes, it does bitstream DTS 96/24 to your AV. So far I have only 1 mkv with DTS 96/24 and it shows on my Av receiver when I play the file with WDTV

my lousy speakers shows no differ to my untrained ear with regular DTS and DTS96/24 at all.
*
Most people also cannot differentiate between Dolby Digital and DTS. I am sure there is a difference but it is so subtle that you really have to listen hard to really pin point the difference.

All this different format is more of a marketing gimmick to empty our wallet, but if you have really deep pocket, then by all means go for the best even if you can't tell the difference.

DD & DTS... really differ if u run action movies, e.g. matrix.. hear the bullets sorrounding crossed.

DTS.. more amplify.

p/s: DTS & DD user since 2002..
*
I think DTS track is just louder therefore is always sound "better" to most people. If you turn up the volume of DD audio track, i think they sound just as good.

DTS on higher note sounds more crisp. Dun know about its lower frequency range. When you play war movies with those firing bullets all around you then you will know its real effect!

Oh yeah, on paper it is so huge difference. DD is 448kbps vs DTS 1536kbps. In practical, difference isnt as huge but improvement in SQ can be felt....
*
You are right. On paper DTS is way superior, but in reality most user will not notice the difference because most user do not have the best of AV equipments to really differentiate it. you can feed the best audio signal to an average equipment and at best you will get average sound only!

Then again if you have plenty of dollar and cents, why not go for the best, but if you don't you won't miss that much too.

Added on June 6, 2009, 1:04 amSometimes it just makes me wanna laugh when seeing how extreme audiophiles would go. You see a group of them playing the same song over and over again switching between speakers, position...etc, and hearing them say crazy thing like how one sounds slightly better then the others!

To me, the whole point of enjoying the music or movies are gone when someone tries to hard to get thing right. I personally feel that the acting, story and dialog in a movies is more important then a slightly less sharp sound of a bullet passing by. But that is just me.
