LOL. Linux mint is ubuntu remaster. There are so many ubuntu remaster out there. Mint have good comunity support. However i prefered super OS with new idea 'portable linux software'.

I feel opensuse more like windows than linux. program crash or hang will bring opensuse down.

i'm lazy. i dont want install & update & upgrade. i just want 'ready to used distro with many app preinstall'. the bigger iso size the better.

So here we go.
debian stable - oshirix
debian testing - epidemic
mandriva - mib live dvd
fedora - comunity fedora remix

so what ? i post on apr 8, oshirix sqeeze come out on apr 12.

I feel debian sqeeze or oshirix become bloatware. Double file size but have same app like oshirix 2009 SPE (700mb)

Now im happy with Pardus. CD install 680mb come with KDE 4.4.4, OOo, GIMP, java, smplayer, K3B, etc etc.

Then run mandriva seed or unetbootin.

The best KDE base distro (without KDE bug like *toot*)
with latest KDE 4.4.5
Contain no puseaudio, no mono, no MSG
Good preinstall software selection
Come with synaptic, wine, java, gdebi-kde, chrome, virtualbox etc
Detect pardus linux installations fedora 13 and some debian base distro miss.
Default uuid is 500 dont know how to change to 1000
Power by ubuntu, enhanced by Mint

Opensuse 11.3 is good KDE base distro. If u never use opensuse, the installer need some trick else u will format wrong partition.

For multimedia playback, just install smplayer. It will download all releven dependency codec plus more.

One thing i dont like opensuse is software manager will preselect app i never ask to install or update. Just enable pacman repo, click ok, then it want to download adobe flash, java, etc.

Opensuse 11.3 dont have pluseaudio problem like mandriva 2010.1

I wander why it still call 11.x than opensuse 14.

linux mint (with number) is 100% ubuntu compatible.
linux mint debian is 100% debian testing compatible. Mint using testing repo not squeeze repo. For now squeeze and testing repo contain same thing.

When squeeze become stable, testing will get update from unstable repo. Distro with squeeze repo will stuck with same version unless security update or bug fix. This is where backport come in or comunity backport repo like used by mepis.

All main linux distro not support proprietary restricted codec out of box. The one support proprietary restricted codec out of box is child distro (not distro by their own) or small project like PCLinuxOS, Pardus.

The problem with 'mandriva the company' managment is they dont care about mandriva user/comunity.
For so long malaysia not in mandriva country list.
Mandriva 2010.1 come with many KDE4 and pluseaudio bug.

The great mandriva distro will continue under unity Linux..

u will get better response if u post new topic. fedora/debian is no 2 malaysia popular distro. i use both. fedora user forum also very friendly. at least they never said "stop blaming fedora".

slow fedora repo nothing u can do. ubuntu got six official local repo. i dont know if ubuntu paid them. fedora local repo mirror no longer update.

fedora using yumex not recommend using synaptic/apt-get.

Try slackware, arch, frugalware, gentoo for more linux fun.
I think BSD family even better.
