which better about performance n UI...ubuntu or linux mint???
*
I do not know about how does ubuntu looks alike and how it performed as I never used it. Eventhough linux Mint is a derivative of Ubuntu and their latest release 10 is based on Maverick, as I can understand the Mint team polished it by ironing out the bugs that exists in Ubuntu and that's why the are now in 3rd runner in Distrowatch.

mint is just another ubuntu. I hate mintmenu and mint autodownload without asking my permision.
*
Menu wise should be no problem to me as the menu is similar to opensuse, but I like opensuse more as the next application tab will take me to a larger applications menu screen. Are you referring to update manager don't you? I started Mint with version 10, I never encountered any autodownload. If there are any patches or upgrades it will show only the list and up to users whether want to do the upgrade or ignoring it.

The Update Manager
If you're not interested in receiving updates for a particular package, simply right click on it and tell the Update Manager to ignore updates for this package. The package will then be added to your "ignore" list and you won't receive any updates for it in the future. The Update Manager now also shows you the size of your selected updates, so you know how much data you're about to download.

I believed the situation is different in version 10 and upwards.

mint 9 KDE
First reboot after install before login, mint auto download language pack.
Then after KDE desktop come out, Mint download something ...
Mint install/remove app will remove system file without warning.
*
I see, there was auto download language pack as I am experienced it too in this 10. But just to confirm, there will be status indicator tray showing that update manager offers new patches/upgrades available but no auto download as before, 10 currently running on Gnome 2.32, KDE I think won't be far away.

We have another Unite17! A few sentences of the changes: brand-new exterior and interior, because I took the liberty of using the testing repositories. E17 at least not alpha, but beta - of course, there are still some annoying bugs, such as that if you want to start an application, which would need administrator rights, some incomprehensible error message appears; transparency works with minimum of memory while in use; the minimum system requirements at least PIII 900 MHz processor and at least 384 MB of RAM, OpenGL compatible graphics card; the CD image size is 2.5 GB, so it's not small; new Linux kernel (2.6.35.7), updated applications, and two new browser add-ons - Chrome TV plugin, which allows all the available Internet TV broadcast monitored, and an open-source YouTube video downloading add-on

Nope didn't give that a whirl.Just thought that it's interesting that aptosid since sidux is still is probably the only known Debian Sid focused work (or am I wrong?).Plus I'm not really into the default XFCE setup.Back when it was Sidux the forums were a bit scary.
