Youre right about the slight craziness of nlite for XP with SSD.
Personally i had problems myself with the Nlite. Every installation yielded different results. In the end i undertook the lazy mans way out, although the not so clever way, install and reinstall until the proper size came about for it.

On my current 901GO machine it took 3 installations of XP heh smile.gif But if theres a better way id like to know about that too

*
QUOTE(ronnie @ May 28 2009, 11:23 AM)
My Nlite came to 195MB wink.gif which yield 2.35GB after install on the notebook. Not on netbook...
*
i about 350mb..might do another till it become 200mb below like ronnie..but scare missing stability
but boot time quite nice after removing everything, 45 seconds from pressing the power button till entering windows loading everything in task bar.

been using 3 months this nlite version windows xp pro, now my bootup takes 1minutes ..i guess i installed too much thing haha

There's no docking station per se for the EEEPC series unless you count 3rd party ones, those too are not real docking stations. Docking station enabled machines will have a contact at the bottom for you to actually dock the machine. Right now since no EEEPC has that contact at the bottom, theres no official docking stations for it.

Unless of course you count those USB cooling pads with HDD storage and extra USB ports, but again those are not official docking stations per se smile.gif
My 701 still loads up at about 32seconds and i have been using it with the current install for more than 7 months now. With NLite XP. Not much installed due to limited 4gb SSD space.

My 901 though is like yours used to be 45seconds now running at about 1 minute bootup times. Having 16gb SSD made me go a little wild at the cost of bootup times hehe smile.gif

*
too bad my 1002ha not ssd~ just a normal hardisk tongue.gif~ but 32 seconds really tempting compare to 45 seconds, but most important i need a power saving OS, i can conclude that nlited xp saves a lot battery juice under minimal condition

How much do you think the Asus 1008 would be sold in Msia. According to retailers, it would be priced at RM1999.

This would definitely be doomed for failure like the S101 and 1002HA. Sales were so bad.
*
what so fail about 1002ha? and s101? both were older design of eeepc with 5hours battery life. the spec during their released is consider good for the weight and alluminum design, thats why so expensive during that time, newer model only introduce faster processor and better battery life (which is normal) and price getting cheaper for sure.

only that Malaysian market not so popular.

i owned 1002ha and s101~ used both for very long time without problem, 1002 and s101 probably will be obsolete in no time which is normal for an older model being replaces by newer.

i format n loaded xp pro into 1000HE and now the web cam is not working even i use in msn..

i tried google ard but i dun seems to find its driver..

anyone can help me out??

much appreciate~~!
*
few place to check it bro

1. goto ur bios~ check if webcam disable? (usually after updating bios, they might switch to disable for no reason common problem in many eeepc), then enable it from your eeetray in xp pro

2. OR go to your device manager see if the webcam working properly, if missing driver means easier to fix, the driver cd that came with your netbook contains what you need, browse it

3. figure it out later if those two option are not working

thx for the solutions guys....after i upgrade to win 7 .. the webcam can be use in msn already...

so i guess sumthing not right on my xp cd then...
*
then this problem can be solved~ its hidden deep inside your driver disc given by asus, try to open in from your pc or external dvdrom (yes the driver disc given by asus is dvd)

try search inside the disc will have your driver~ copy to your netbook and install directly

I agree mate, actually even a difference between 1.2kg vs 1 kg netbook is already very big. Though its just 200grams, itll seem heavy after awhile, what more a 2kg laptop smile.gif But a netbook should not really cost so much because when it does though ( to me ) it stops becoming a netbook and becomes a mini notebook. Netbooks by my personal definition shouldnt exceed RM1600 unless its with super long life battery, comes with GPS, built in 3G and very very VERY light. Then I'd gladly pay more than RM 1.6k for it but ill stop at RM2300max. With that in view and my personal preference, even though nice, i still feel the Vaio P though nice and small, is way way WAY too overpriced, nice to have though biggrin.gif

*
i agree with havocx and sjn hassan, paying a bit extra for size is anytime worth for the money you paid except viao p..too pricey hehe, if we see from price perspective la , im not so sensitive to price if its still around a good budget, rm1600-2000.

yes you might able to buy a notebook that cost RM2000-2200 faster and bigger screen, but a notebook will not be so cheap most of the time, either is an almost obsolete model or its a manufacturer unit (a bit faulty that not noticeable like overheat issue) that need to be sold cheap.

i own a benQ laptop with 2-3hours battery life, heavy weight, overheating issue (...need bring laptop cooler), im not gamer myself so even a fast processing laptop and good graphic card will be useless when i took it outside.

thx for the info bro...but hor..i check thro da disk lah...i dun see any driver related to webcam wor....mayb i know da folder name? (incase i rollback to xp lah)
*
sorry bro i check through my disc, the webcam i got is not a driver, more like a add on, for design and making those funny images to our webcam

if search around the internet, i found that some forumers said
Its part of xp...you should already have it. Check two things- first, are you using at least SP2? Second, have you set the O/S install to "finished"?

i wonder if i directly zip every driver files needed for the webcam and send to you, will it works for your model

win 7 is easy to install, juz dl the RC version ard n run it from ur current window oso can ...

but strangely my xp oso cannot upgrade directly, hv to load a new set..mayb only apply to vista i guess
*
haha better dont try it 1st~ waiting for a actual release god know when~ but most important power saving is what i needed since 1002ha dont have any 6cell battery like other model. been reducing the netbook to run at the lowest cpu needs

been testing a lot tweak in xp~ now 1002ha can lasted 4hours packed with drama and wifi...last time max 3 hours 30min~ haha,

for office usage, power saving can truly archived 5hours++ with wifi (but not bluetooth..for no reason it sucked my power very fast)

[size=1]

Yep, thats right sadly for all the good things about the EEEPC its also not well known for being more of the Fat Kid round the netbook block, not much we can do there. They've redeemed themselves with the models you mentioned.

The correction however would be the 1008 and the 1005HAB  ( these two are of the same mould ) and the
S101, S101H, 1002H ( these 3 are of the same mould ) would be the lightest among all the EEEPCs.

Heh and actually im not really allowed to help with NLite on this forum  wink.gif
yup if 1000HA thin i sure thats a best seller

the 9incher sure the best value and battery power...but but 1inch made a big difference, i almost bought 901..but after sampling it really too small for my big hand and palm haha

QUOTE(G|O @ Jun 18 2009, 03:45 PM)
wow...ur tweak is good bro.... i use my 1KHE in win7..roughly can last ard 5hr ++ for websurf + minor pic editing
*
yup asus doesnt lie about the 5hour thingy maybe around 4hours++, but thats for minimal usage like mid brightness (consider bright), and no strictly no bluetooth, webcam still acceptable.

without nlite there is no way to archive 5hours..too many unwanted process running.

so after nlite, service tweaking, registry tweaking, removing junk driver, remove unused font speed up loading time, and some tweak i forgotten which i purposely forcing them to not running it unless required, i know it gives me extra 30minutes, but other than that many things also run faster in power saving mode smile.gif

i sure 1000HE able to go up to 9hours..if you turn off your bluetooth and webcam if you did not use them , defragment it, and stop unused service. and set it to power saving mode too (only turn on to high performance when you need to do task like photoshopping, virus scanning, playing high resolution video)

EDIT: i tested that if you turn off theme in winxp conserve battery life, no actual fact to proven..just my feeling, but i turn it back on..without theme xp look boring

Any S101 and 1002HA users here fed up with battery life? I got a brand new 1000HE that I want to swap.

Easily can get over 7 hours of battery life with wifi on and screen 100% brightness.

@michealtan1943

s101 was bought last year unknown date it belongs to my gf

1002ha was bought during ..early this year.. but the retail price for every shop is rm1999 to rm1899 depending on what kinds of free stuff they give

both were bought during the early release, even now i would invest to buy a s101..you get what you paid for..the weight, design and ssd really nice. battery life might be suck but 5hours ok la still manageable

@Perfect-Stranger
haha i know la but since the price is rm1999 for 1002ha with 1gb ram only, if i never ask for ram upgrade they just gonna give me rm1999 without any discount oh tongue.gif

@havocx
the 32gb ssd = 50% of a new eeepc netbook price, expensive giler

yup agree with you , when i wanted to buy a s101 for myself the dealer said ssd version is very limited in Malaysia market, during that time not much ppl want to buy a small capacity storage, and ssd not yet popular.
