Tasted em before in Jakarta....damn good...would say better than JCo & Big Apple

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Doughnut maker Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Inc. said Friday it agreed with its affiliate Berjaya Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Sdn Bhd in Malaysia to develop about 20 retail stores.

The shops will open over the next five years

Nope I disagreed. I hv tried all the above. Krispy Kreme I tried it in Manila SM megamal Mandaluyong. There are few Krispy Kreme surrounding Manila competing wth Manila ownend donuts (Din try)..& it's not cheap about RM3/each in Manila.

The taste is too sweet & abit hard to my liking..JCO is my preffered donut & what I like about M'sian JCO copycat is the durian donut coz not so sweet & real original/// biggrin.gif

BTW, there are 2 earlier threads comparing the 3 either here or Kopitiam FYI biggrin.gif

Krispy Kreme is wayy over-rated. It's incredibly sweet and the variety ain't as much as JCo or Big Apple.

I still prefer the latter 2.

And Big Apple is not from Malaysia.

Is Krispy Kreme originated from Indonesia too? Dunkin seems to fade slowly. Used to monopolize the market but now the share fractioned significantly. I wonder how Dunkin will counter that. hmm.gif

No-lah They are from US. Estb 1937!! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krispy_Kreme

HCo & big apple actually copied their concept..probably after Krispy Kreme opened in Jakarta.. biggrin.gif & becaoming much better tatse & crowd pullers in Indonesia rather than Krispy Kreme

Jco suck sh*t. Waited for 20 minutes to buy a box and eat 2 and threw the rest away.

A copy of Krispy but with lousier quality.

Krispy is too sweet at times. I still prefer Dunkin Donut

I have tried four of them. And frankly speaking each of the brand has some sort of unique flavour which the rest dont have it. So it's unfair to compare like this...

I don't know bout the rest people but i really felt that krispy kreme is too sweet for my liking. Still they produce the best glazed donut...

basically it's like this guys:

Krispy Kreme glazed donuts > (Jco + Big Apple + Dunkin Donuts)'s glazed donuts.

trust me. i've tried it before.

i think i heard some news that KK is finally making it's way to Malaysia. hopefully it'll be soon.

cheers.

I've tried JCo and Big Apple in KL, Dunkin' Donuts in Malaysia and USA, Krispy Kreme in HK.

Of all the different tastes, I think Krispy Kreme taste the best, but the difference between KK, Jco and BA is minor. Dunkin' Donuts is the lowest in terms of taste.

But that said, I wouldn't bother to Q up for donuts (if the Q is long) as they're just donuts, and I can't be bothered to waste my time that way.

personally, the best experience would be munching on a nicely glazed donut that was first popped into the microwave for 5 seconds, and all around you is nothing but a fresh crispy cold weather environment.

and yeah, I only like glazed donuts.
and yeah, Krispy Kreme glazed rawks most ;D

I vote for J co, but find tat it's just slightly better than Big Apple. Dunkin Donuts is the worst, too hard, too sugary.
Never tried the Krispy one... but since there's so many mixed comments about it, will try it when it comes...
to midvalley did u say, will look out for it then.

krispy kreme is the best of all, i'm pretty sure after you guyz tried it surely jco and big apple not gonna be your choices anymore .... jco didn't extend their business rapidly perhaps they dun dare take risk as big apple did. Big apple even extend to China market!! but i'm quite sure kispy kreme will target more on city centre like klcc, time square, pavillion, mid valley and one utama, because their market are more into tourists and foreigners. Krispy kreme only use high quality products imported from other country like France and USA. compare to big apple, they are using all the local ingredients to produce the donuts. Well when they just started their business in Malaysia, they were using all those imported ingredients to help them built a good reputation for their donuts which PREVIOUSLY WERE tasty, but now, sigh, minimizing the volume, less filling. Overall Krispy Kreme is be the best albeit its price will not be cheap

I vote for Krispy Kreme too. I almost peed my pants when I saw the "coming soon" sign in Berjaya Times Square.

My first taste of Krispy Kreme was in the US back in 2006. Oh god, it was like a symphony of orgasms in my mouth when I tried their glazed donuts. Back in KL, they were touting Big Apple as the next big thing, but they were sorely lacking. Most importantly I think, was that the KK ones had a better bite compared to the fluffy BA ones. Also, the glaze they used tasted waaaaaaay better.

Sure, they might not have so many "unique" flavors and toppings, but to me, it's all about the glazed donuts man.

Local Dunkin nothing like USA, dunno why. Here it is hard and dry, and smells a little like mouldy flour. USA fillings also creamier, not so starchy.

KKreme also get long Qs in USA, but CARS lined up around the block! However, prepacks sold in supermarkets are the pits. Don't waste money and calories. Gotta eat em bought fresh and warm from the store.

I hope I won't be disappointed when they debut here.

The only good donut from KK is their glazed. I rather eat sugar than eating their other choices.

I hope you guys don't mind that I'm bumping this old thread, and probably an outdated “battle” (rather an old trend at that),
I'm just curious to know, as Krispy Kreme has now popped up in Malaysia for quite some time now,

has anyone gotten sick of the sweetness of Krispy Kreme's Original Glazed yet? Or does it still top off all other donuts just for that?
I voted J.Co, since it was the only brand I bothered to try when it first came out— the rest just didn't appeal to me (also because I am more of a Pavilion/Sunway Pyramid person. Location! Location!).

lol I just realized that my Krispy Kreme question was very much a statement with obvious biasness.

Are you all aware that Big Apple's actually a Malaysian brand? Gave me a surprise, and I didn't like it cause I felt pretty much deceived, lol.
I understand the whole "Support Malaysian Brand" sentiment, but I can't be so supportive when one brand does not even emit any Malaysian personality.

To me most of the donuts tasted the same. It is the glazing that you are tasting. Ever thried the classic donut? I saw the KK outlet in Berjaya Times Sq. but didn't try it.

However, anything franchise that is handled by Berjaya will make the brand loose it lustre. Look at 7-11 and Starbucks! You see lower grade coffee and badly trained baristas. 7-1 is a mess, you even find 2 to 3 outlets in one neigbourhood. To Berjaya, it is money first, money second and money third! sad.gif

My ranking of donuts in terms of tastiness:

#1 Big Apple
#2 J.Co
#3 Krispy Creme
#4 Dunkin Donuts

Big Apple donuts taste damn good - try their Presidential Sweet, Coco Mango or Tira Cino and for the daring ones - try Duren Duren, it's super good thumbup.gif

I find J.Co donuts to be a bit bland.. but still pass as good gourmet donuts.

Krispy Creme is not gourmet donuts, very American style, the only donut I liked is the original glazing, other than that the donuts are average.

Dunkin Donuts - they used to produce good donuts back in 90s, before Big Apple/J.Co/Krispy Creme came along. It was the only place I get my donuts from back in high school. Liked the Strawberry ones alot. However, their quality dropped drastically, now the strawberry ones tasted like antibiotic syrup! shakehead.gif I took one bite and then it goes directly to the rubbish bin. Yuck!

As I know, Big Apple donuts is a Malaysian brand (I support! rclxms.gif ), J.Co is from Indonesia, Krispy Kreme & Dunkin' Donuts is from USA.

Malaysian made donuts taste so much better than American ones, agree? nod.gif

bored of donuts already. I think these donuts are way over hyped. It wasn't really that great to begin with. Taste okay but for that price...really too expensive. Now, it's no different from those established "small eats" like egg tart or cremepuff or siew pau.
