Hi,

I hv a pb12plus plain black ed..

I know of another friend (lives in de Klang Valley but works in Pg) who runs a 20-39(I cnt remember whether its an I or + model..) n another guy in de Klang Valley who has de same - in fact they bot together .. oso I know another chap who runs 2 pb10's in JB(works in Sg..).. All our units are bought thru Sg..

Uhm.. de SvS I models are de lowest range then cums Plus n top of de line is Ultras.. de plus should be more powerful than de I models..

Since 2007, they opened international orders for de 'bins'.. they stopped durin 2006(when I bot mine, tat I know..)

So far no issues wif mine thou' I would say mines under used.. N Customer Service is exemplary - I once complained cos my decal(u know de SvS name tag..) came off.. n they shipped 2 new ones for me wif my upgraded(a 12.3) driver I ordered.. fact is I re sticked de older one .. after all..kekeke laugh.gif

Hsu's makes great subs too.. I dare say SvS copied Dr Hsu's designs - remember, Hsu makes 'bins' too .. on which is better well.. I wont go into tat.. suffice to say both hv their followers..

Musical subs are fast n usually sealed .. HT subs nid ports for de lower octaves.. cant compare de 2..

Cheers

Hahaha,

Yes I did get de 12.3 driver and no I wont be going for de 12.4... for de simple reason of I m still using de 12.2 driver.. de lazy bones in me were daunted in flippin de beast (55kg .. man.. no joke..) over to change tis.. my 12.3 driver is in my store sumwhere..

12.2, 12.3 or 12.4 .. watever dont really matter .. first off it must be a SvS.. Agreed??

YUP!!

but they don't sell the parts seperately nowadays? And B stocks as well....
*
Ya..

Mine was offered by my Sg mates who wanted to upgr their drivers, so they organised an Mass Order for it .. apparently u nid to disclose ur sub serial no for SvS to verify tat u qualify for de deal.. u must be still under their warranty period of 3 yrs, if after dat period, u can still buy but price is different - xtra 50%, if not mistaken.. So I tot wat de heck.. worst is tat I get a heavy book end or a spare driver just in case mine dies ... kekeke tongue.gif

haha so true~ hmm good thinking on the spare driver though.. how much did u have to pay for ure 12.3 driver anyways??? i may consider to get the 12.4 driver on that premise..

either that or ill just get an ultra and place it next to my viewing sweet spot.. haha nvm.. this decision is for next year..
*
Quoted cost of 12.3 driver is US$99.. I pd S$210 inclusive of shippin in de end..

price not cheap also, at least RM 2K++

for tis price range still hv other option, which they can be auditioned.

if purchase a svs sub then turn out not my liking, then wasted loh..
hearth pain at least few mths...
hehe...
*
True, true..

But then again, where can u find spkrs tat sound gud n cheap?? Especially in Malaysia..
For 2k, u ll be gettin the entry level '10inchers' only n ya its an uphill battle to try sumtin 'unleard' of.. tat argument is valid.

On a wasted purchase if u dont like an svs.. I dare say if u were to put up one for sale now at 2k, there would be takers n I hv yet to see a SvS sub sold becos owner dont find it 'suitable' (mind you tis is gud for HT, musical subs - u r better off lukin elsewhere..) I know of one chap who didnt quite like it as a stereo pair for classical music n several who was givin up de hobby n yes oso de irrevereble upgraditis sale to a bigger meaner SvS sub..

But for me n Bro Poison arrow, we both bought it 'blind'(so to speak..).. actin only on 'blind' faith of other more 'learned' members of the fraternity tat kept on sayin how gud it was...

N we havent looked back.. kekeke cool2.gif

Yes, indeed I did. It's a CHT-12R. I went and auditioned my friend's SPL-1200R. CHT-12R is miles behind. Aint fair to compare it in this way. I know.

I am upgrading my 7mths+ old CHT-12R to SVS since I have heard and read too many good reviews about it. Here's one of the review :

http://www.hometheatersound.com/equipment/svs_pc12_plus.htm

Even UK Mag also gave excellent review (very rare for US products). I chat with my friend (as he is very knowledgable in this since he has auditioned many subwoofers including F113). He told me that his SPL-1200R would be no match to PC-12Plus. Apart from these factors, I am quite curious about its ability to go sub-sonic (20Hz and below) since not many (or none) mid-range priced sub can do it.

Once it is here by mid next week, I shall do a thorough review, including a comparison between CHT-12R (definitely 'squashes' Velo with ease) and SPL-1200R.

Hi..

No offence to Velodyne lovers but when it(svs) first came out, there were alrdy fans quotin how gud it was compared to Velodynes n Paradigms of de same caliber.. of cos initially u could say it was jus fanboys blowin their horn but if more n more were made 'converts' .. there has to be sumtin goin for it..

If u can afford it, de ultra would be de ultimate-once-in-a-purchase sub.. u prbbly would not upgrade it again until it konks or if u give up de hobby.. I only know of ultra upgraders is when they add another.. but ya real life dictates us to look for wat we can afford n like me ( n dare I say similarly like you..) a midrange plus is plenty gud alrdy..

Anyway.. gud choice n lookin forward to ur detailed review..

which ultra do u mean? the front firing box type or the bolster type? :hmm
*
Uhm..

Both is kick ass la.. de bins hv a smaller footprint n is lighter but sum ppl cant fathom a spkr tat luks like tat..

Its all in de preference, really..

As for me, I wanted a 'bin' but when I wanted to order, svs stopped shippin 'bins' overseas so I had to choose a box or get sumtin else.. n I chose de box - I tot wat de heck, its still an SvS .. back then shippin for bins was a tad cheaper cos of its weight but they cost de same .. if not mistaken..

Ultras are expensive for me but of cos if u r alrdy lukin at REL n M & K then its still cheaper than those models and if u get de premium veneers , it looks really really gud too .. o ya n if its for HT use, then.. well as they say de rest is history..

Ya Bro HTkaki,

Welcome to de boom boom club.. rclxms.gif

I guess it would be really interestin as well as an eye opener to read ur experienced( I mean .. u being in tis line n all..) n knowledgeable review..

Nid to rant a bit .. de new cylinder subs dont look much different than de older generations .. well at least there is no appreciable difference tat I can see but de newer box dont luk gud IMO.. I m not saying tis jus becos I hv de older model but de hidden down firing design looks way sturdier.. more solid(more macho as an mcp would say..) if u prefer than d current front firin design wif grill n all but I do notice tat there is no cheaper wrapped matt black model anymore n its all premium veneers now .. o well dats progress for u..

Dirtrun,

You seem very knowledgable in SVS. I have one question, how well do they do music? I am heard Velo and Paradigm for music since I also listen to a lot of music (ranges from classical to rock) and on most occasions I do not enjoy the integration of the sub for music. I use the Dali Ikon6 series and and the Dali Ikon sub. So far, it is not earth shattering for HT but it is a nice compromise for music as my mains do not go below 37Hz and the subs allow for a range up till 25Hz. Also classical music sounds much nicer with them.

Any comments. Else I would need to have 2 subs in the main room and then would need to add a SVS AS-EQ1 to separate the HT with the music.
*

Hi,

On music, I believe u nid to get de sealed sub from SvS .. sealed subs are faster n have more control thou' they dont go as low.. Like u said, if u nid ne sub to do both chores then u nid to compromise but if u dont want to do tat, then u nid one Mofo big ported svs for ht n a small sealed one for music..
I know of a chap who tried out 2 pb10s in stereo configuration for classical music - seems he didnt like it.. thou'..

I tink my 7002/spkrs combo is -13 n my subs are hot a bit ..
Normal listening lvls vary from -16 to -20 dependin on movies, time and also my mood..

Me too..

Jus voicin my thoughts only..

Besides it wouldnt be difficult wif de Sg rep to liaise wif a Malaysian co/individual abt bringin in de odd one in or sumtin like tat..

I dunt tink any malaysian would want to stock up on all de different SvS spkrs (they dont jus sell subs now..) which is wat de parent co wants for u to be called a dealer..

Again, my 2 cts..

Not really la..

U can read oso wat at xp's forum..

Haha.. I oso heard tat they(KEC) will be askin de Sg bass guru( de one wif a 7.7 system) to help set up de subs for a demo session.. btw he is not a proffessional, jus maybe tat he got 'golden ear'..

Whoever ends up gettin de SvS dealership is gud for Sg (n indirectly us..) as they ll bring parts n expertise closer to de ground .. oso de ability to demo first before puttin up your hard earned cash is loads better than jus readin rvws..
