QUOTE(liette` @ Jan 14 2010, 07:17 PM) Hello, this question is directed to all aquatic turtle owners. What fish do u all use as feeders? As far I know, the feeder baby goldfish commonly sold in fish shops all over the country is high in fats and contains high levels of thiaminase which destroys Vitamin B1. If so, are there any other alternatives? All the LFS in my area sell only baby goldfish. Home-bred guppies maybe? No matter what kind of feeder you using try wean them off live prey as soon as possible if you you will have headache when they grow larger !! Glass shrimp in fish shop is also a good choice for prey/feeder - calcium also higher with those shell on !! Lets not forget those crickets , superworm and mealworm ........etc Dont boxed yourself to just feeder fish !!

QUOTE(deviannear @ Feb 17 2010, 10:12 PM) oh ya for you guys who doesn't know AST is an expert level turtle You should not keep an AST as your first aquatic turtle Pet recommendation according to experience Beginner Red-Eared SliderLeopard Tortoise Malayan Box TurtleSmiling Terrapin Mississippi Map Turtle Fly River TurtlePeacock Turtle Star Tortoise Advanced All soft-shelled turtles Mata-mata Snake-headed TurtleSpiny Hill Turtle Expert Alligator Snapping Turtle Common Snapping TurtleAccording to who or where ?? As a few in your beginner section are or should be in the advance or even expert level !! While your so all expert leveled sp - the 2 snapper are so much easier than say Mata Mata in the advance level !! PLS dont just cut and paste from any sources and before posting put some thoughts in !! As all mentioned sp above I have and are still keeping them and breeding from some BUT aim to breed from all IF time and space permits !! Those in bold I consider beginner !! QUOTE All the fuss about what category of turtle to rear is also up to individual, just make sure you know what you are getting into by doing enough survey as well as asking existing keepers. I have in my possesion most of the turtles listed as advance or expert but I don't think it's that hard to rear when you know what you are doing. And another thing I've kept snakehead, mata-mata, ast and common all in the same tank with no problem, of course they are about the same size. As long as ample food is available and frequent change of water which is a must for any turtle there shouln't be any problem. People's definition of level worldwide refers to for example ast, will grow up to a certain stage which will require more space which people don't foresee in advance whereby socall experts has considered all factors before venturing into it. Most people will buy what interest them in the beginning and lose the interest later on. To get it is easy but to commit to the responsibility which comes with it is another matter, so consider wisely as most likely they will outlive us, haha so make sure you make a will to force the next generation to take care of it. Would love to see that !! I also want no fight especially during CNY !!!

All have slightly different water requirement - Mata especially will suffer the most I think !! How long you had them togather for ??
--------------------------------
But I know many just in this hobby for the short term - one moment say how much love for this pet but another that pet up for sale after they finished studies or going aboard , move houses ..........etc
