haha, how much did you sell your old rig for? must be a kingkong of a machine.

Sold my NP8690 for RM3.1K just on Thaipusam. Haha it was a king kong machine last year, till it was phased out by this year's sandy bridge.

hey guys, im on the verge of ordering a NP 8150 now since i cant really wait out for the 6970m since theres no confirmation on the date

is 2720qm, 460m 8gb ram better or
is 2630qm 485m    4gb ram better no BD ray bla
while the latter will have an extra cost of say RM600+
is it worth it if i go for the 485m, im a gamer who enjoys eye candies on every games i play

however, if there are anyone here who have a grasp of infos on the ETA of 6970m, kindly let me know as well
*
You won't regret having the 485m because it is currently unbeaten on many benchmarks. If you can, go for that config; it will last you for a long time...but then again, the 460m is a pretty amazing card by itself as well.

ETA for the 6970m would be around end of February to March.

This is a Lamp.....do you know which reseller is better, affordablelaptops.com.au or logicalblueone.com.au

the former is located in Perth, been around longest.
the latter in Queensland, closer to me as I'd be in Sydney.

Things like warranty slightly differ...but with your experience, which reseller would you recommend. This is important as build quality would vary somewhat, as theyd be bringing in barebones and putting them together locally..and also theres the after sale service factor.

Lastly, you're in OZ arent you? then why have you chose to get your NP8150 from the States.....any reasoning behind that?
*
I'm based in Brisbane, QLD. I personally think LogicalBlueOne is a better reseller. It doesn't matter if they are barebones or not, they are still Clevo. It is still the same quality, same laptop smile.gif. But what matters is the price (for me) and the service.

So far, LBO has answered my questions well. Second also, they are closer to me, and since they are closer to Sydney, then I would assume that the shipping is lower. It seems that their pricing is lower at times, and they offer DDR3 1600, which isn't available in 95% of the Sager resellers around the world.

And why I chose in the States? Because they are cheaper...by a small margin. I like to reek out abit of money out if I can and get the deal that doesn't clear my wallet fast enough. Not only that, I had experiences with US resellers before, and didn't like the OZ resellers before Logical. Price difference was enormous. Also, I am in Malaysia for awhile, before heading back...and I kinda like the laptop in my hands before heading back to OZ again.

And finally, we're in Malaysia! The electronics here are like food; cheaper than many western countries. I can upgrade the modules/components here easily and I'd like to do that before going back.

Australia, frankly is pretty outdated in tech...

smile.gif thanks for the reply, it was very helpful

Yes indeed, Ive been in contact with LBO and AL since last night, and it was only LBO that got back to me...twice! AL are still yet to..
The other thing I like is, their website is easier to navigate/use  hehe
AL tho, pride them selves in being the oldest most established reseller of Clevos in Australia, 10 years of experience.
They say their machines are built by 'ITC mobile computing'.
The price indeed is the most important factor, and thats why Ive gone with Clevo, it gives you more power for every dollar you spend than any other laptop manufacturer.
LBO also offer a stock 3 year warranty period, but this makes their notebooks a couple of hundred dollars more expensive. The AL machines are slightly cheaper, but come with only a 1 year warranty, if you upgrade to 3 years..it passes the cost of getting it from LBO. So theres that to consider as well.
I need my lappy soon, and with the floods up in Queensland, delivery has been on halt for quite some time sad.gif

I am thinking of getting the NP8150 with a HD in the optical drive bay tongue.gif  so I can fit an SSD in there.

Now I  understand why you had ordered from the US, since ure in Malaysia right now. You can avoid the gst and upgrade it easily and cheaper like you said. But what about warranty?would you be able to send it in for repairs at either LBO or AL? or would it have to go all the way to the US, with you having to bare the shipping costs?
If so, wouldnt you be better buying from OZ? ok its slightly more expensive, but you have that completely worry free experience with the 3 year onsight pick warranty cocooning you..give me your thoughts please.
*
Yeah parts of my areas are flooded hahaha. I'm hoping my stuff + guitars isn't floating around, my lovely LED screen diving under and my bed upgraded itself to a waterbed tongue.gif

The warranty was the main reason why I was in contact with LBO; I needed to ask if they allow me to send my system to their shop and they said yes they can, because they are the Sager/Clevo reseller in Australia. So it was definitely a plus for me smile.gif

But, as I repeated many times over my older posts haha, I don't really focus on the warranty because I know I'm careful about my laptop. There *may* be accidents and I'm clumsy myself, but the Sager NP8690 I had never failed on me once, more as a reason to buy a Sager/Clevo as they are not prone to simple malfunctions that plague current consumer laptops right now.

Many users here though I seen never overlook the warranty options...I tend to skip them tongue.gif doh.gif

And for the HDD bay, I suggest you put your bigger plated hard drive instead of the SSD, and place your SSD in the actual laptop, as Alune pointed. I don't think you get the speeds you want in regards to the SSD, from the bay.

Thanks for that guys, I'll keep that in mind. smile.gif

Aw no! I hope ur stuffs not f**cked Lamp...the waterbed thing made me chuckle x)

I thought I'd pick up some components from Lowyat before I head to OZ. Like the bracket/frame thing I need for the optical bay. And would it be cheaper for me to buy an SSD from Lowyat? I am not looking for something hardcore, an Intel 40GB SSD would do fine, I am just gonna run the OS, some programs and maybe squeeze in a game if I can.
the 7200rpm drive that comes with it....um, if I put it where the optical drive is supposed to go...would it have the same cooling solution provided like a dedicated HHD bay would? I'd assume not, as I dont really notice any vents below the dvdrom area. Thats why I thought I'd place the SSD there as it doesnt heat up like a mechanical drive would.

I am not an expert when it comes to Clevo machines...but what are their product cycle like? Are these new products? would I regret not waiting like a couple of weeks more when another even better line comes out? I know the over used saying about not chasing tech, but give me an idea how future proof a NP8150 would be.
*
It is definitely cheaper to get the components in Lowyat (the building itself) or even the sales forum, as you can haggle your way through...if you're good at that haha. Bought my Momentus XT for RM350 haha tongue.gif

I saw the optical bays in Lowyat a few weeks ago; around the insides of it is an aluminium coating, so I would assume that this was the only cooling solution provided for the HDD or any device. I don't think going as far as having vents for the HDD would matter though; the NP8690 didn't have that and HDD temps were fine.

Product cycles are I think everytime a new tech comes out, they either revise their current models to accomodate the changes or a complete new system, like the NP81x0 and NP51x0. The NP8690 had a number of revisions ranging to adding GTX 285m, ATi 5870m, GTX 460, 470 support and USB 3.0 implementations (and later the 6970m). This was over a year since the October 2009 release.

I would think that there will be revisions but minor ones, like adding new GPUs and Processors till the next set of CPUs turn out sometime in the future. However, saying that, I'm set on getting the NP8150 because I think it will be a decent machine in a long run.

I cancelled my order from LPC-Digital and went for a closer reseller (LogicalBlueOne). I won't be sure that I'll be receiving it in time. sad.gif Oh well, all for the better I guess.

Anyone owns this model ? NP5160

How's the performance ?
*
I don't own it, but it's aimed at longetivity; it has NVIDIA's Optimus, so it's able to switch to 2 GPUs, from this its able to prolong battery life without regards to performance. You can watch movies or surf or whatever with the intergrated GPU and play games with the NVIDIA GPU.

The graphics card isn't as powerful as Sager's NP8xxx series, but the NP5160 is able to run high settings on current games.

Paired with a fast CPU, demanding games of 2010 should run fluently in medium to high details and SXGA resolution. In our tests for example Call of Duty: Black Ops and StarCraft 2 ran fluently in high details and 1360x768. More gaming benchmarks can be found in the lower section of this page.

"...our P150 and P151 models are most likely not affected by the Sandy Bridge flaws and will have a 90% confirmation on shipping our models out next week as planned."

So I might be getting mine next week or so! biggrin.gif

Already reordered mine. Due to the delay I got extra money from CNY salary and this month, I've got some beefing up to do on my system.

Try the Notepal U3 if you're unsure what to choose for cooler; you can replace the fans wherever you want.

Or just read this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/accessorie...yers-guide.html

Speaking about coolers, I'm probably going to mod my Sager and the CryoLX I have with this:

Do i need to pay for shipping fee to send b US for warranty?
your words are so tempting biggrin.gif

So I can assume that I dont need to worry about warranty that much?
*
For warranties, yes you need to pay shipping...which is why most Malaysians are reluctant to get Sager (because we like cheap things right?). However the cheaper alternative would be buying from MucroAsia, who are the closest Sager reseller to Malaysia.

And, what you get is the top of the line laptop, with performance written on it with the best cooling system in a laptop around. Less than 5% of Sager users have problems with their laptop and have to send back for warranty, with the others having Sagers for more than 3 - 4 years without failing.

I had mine for one year before selling, it was still going strong and looked almost brand new like day one from the box. Sager = tank.
