VPN is not a service but rather a protocol. It is free (as in running your own server). It acts a middleman , your PC connects to this VPN Server and connections are made from the VPN server , which then would bypass completely your ISP's restriction. Its commonly used by business folks who would like to securely access their Intranet over the internet !
If you wish to use it to say bypass things , you would have to find a VPN Provider , alternatively you can set up your own VPN Server if you have a dedicated server with a dedicated connection ! This post has been edited by prasys: Oct 10 2008, 10:34 PM |

Tumpang this thread to ask:
Will using a VPN improve gaming ping? Especially since connections to the US and europe have been pretty shitty lately. |

still it depends one. i wouldnt say VPN would definately improve ur ping
u may get good pimg ,but ur line is tnot smooth till VPN what we get from VPn is acccesing another LAN network through your existing WAN (internet , streamyx) so even u used VPn, ur current internet Line still lagging or time-out, ur VPN will still be affected. only way one would benefits from usinf VPN is that their existing line is stable to the VPN point else. its pointless |

QUOTE(knighty @ Oct 11 2008, 06:20 PM) Tumpang this thread to ask: Depends where is the Server located. Suppose if its in singapore , or somewhere near to our place. Then yes why not. Our latency would be reduced or it would be more stable. I've tested it and it has been proven. Provided that the route between you and the VPN Server is stable enough and Server (VPN) to the Gaming server has a better route compared to your ISPWill using a VPN improve gaming ping? Especially since connections to the US and europe have been pretty shitty lately. |
