well forgive me if i like the fighting instead of the emotions part of the anime, but they didnt exactly show how hayate improved as a pilot instead seems always need freya's singing to activate his OP wind power to overcome the enemy ... other than that the only skill he has is make valks dance? lulz

everyone got his own taste on what they want
if the start of the season doesn't show much about how hayate improve middle end of the season sure wont show much he will just ride the plot device wind and shoot down shirokishi or whoever in his way

They practised flying in formation. That's all. Delta squad is basically just Walkure bodyguards, so flight formation and combat awareness are critical. Splashing countless bandits and nuking enemy mothership are not their forte.

The fact that Bouge got past them several times so far proves that Delta squad still sucks individually and as a team.
