Nope, its an IR remote. The charging station / IR receiver needs to be connected to the PS3 with a USB cable.

The remote is pretty crappy. The center button and the pause/play button does not work. When you press them, it's like pressing the "X" button on a PS3 controller. You get the screen that ask you weather you want to quit the playback or not. The stop button has the function of the play/pause button.

The remote can be used with the PS3 but abit leceh la. You can press the options button to bring up the PS3 on-screen navigation menu then select them by pressing the stop button

I've tried the extra unit and it's the same. Also tried on two different PS3s. Same thing. Going to return them to the seller

They can actually. All PS3s can play DVDs, as long as they're the same region or the disc is region free.
