Hey, welcome to the club! Haha, glad you got poisoned haha! biggrin.gif

Places you can get Tomica are TRU, JJ, Parkson, Isetan, Metrojaya, Litt Takk. Please do note that not all departmental store outlets mentioned carry Tomica, it varies from outlet to outlet. Best if you do scouting of your own in your area.

Prices for regular box (those red and white boxes) are RM12.90, Tomica Limited may range from RM16.90 to RM23.90, and there are many many other categories with various prices. Hope this helps! smile.gif

Though I cannot see the pictures I think you meant a blister card pack and a normal box. They are still essentially the same car just the difference in packaging. The blister cards are found in Japan and some other countries I believe smile.gif

A blister pack from the movie Always (続 三丁目の夕日) though I have never seen this show. It is suppose to be a nostalgic Japanese movie looking back on the lives of the inhabitants of a small pocket of Tokyo. You can find out more about the show here

Anyone into Box Sets?? Otherwise known as gift sets, to me they can be quite good value for money if you buy them 4-in-a set at discount. I do collect some but not extensively.

They come across as mostly re-paints or with little add-ons/changes like a police siren, additional tempo etc. A good choice especially for those who are unable to locate the desired model type in regular box / other series wink.gif

i'm lucky i'm collecting tomicas, unlike other type of 1/60 diecasts, tomicas can be put back in its original boxes.. not like those carded types... and the boxes itself do has its own identity..

Yahoo !!! Congrats loon on the V2 thread.

Percivale, I think I speak for many of us when I say that your collections are out of this world or even out of the reach of most of us here in Msia. We can only dream of getting our hands on those rare models in your collection. Anyway thanks for the poison. Keep em coming bro. At least your posts will give the rest of us something nice to dream about... sigh notworthy.gif notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

Thanks for the compliments. I hope I don't come across as trying to "show-off" like some of the collectors we know. My case is that I wanted more to help move this thread and also share the fun of Tomica collecting. I assure you that they are many much greater collectors out there, especially those from the land of the rising sun (Eleewhm is one good example) smile.gif what I admire about the folks here is their chatty friendliness and use of creativity when posting their hunts/buys.

I gather from the members here that the Tomica stock situation is worse in M'sia which is quite a pity (will anyone take it up and write to the distributor?). Do take some comfort that most of my collection are from overseas so you can always get them as well. I have shared the links/avenues of purchase with Elgee and ADVedder so you can also try checking with them for leads.

Cars anyone can buy, more importantly is whether we find like-minded friends who shares our hobby. An achievement would be a SG/M'sia gathering/swap meet for Tomica fans.. now wouldn't that be something? rolleyes.gif

To this end, I would be very glad if everyone can take part and join in to collect nice nice Tomicas icon_rolleyes.gif

Here's another of the Otomodachi Series, I believe there are 8 to collect in this series. From what I can gather, it belongs to a product series created for kids and the word itself means friend. As adult collectors we become "big kids" or known as ooki na otomodachi hehe blush.gif

Yeah this is pricey indeed (they can be cheaper if you are patient and source again) and if you ever decide to buy them, you gotta buy them fast in time for the birthday (don't forget the shipping time) hmm.gif

Ahh.. another Initial D Fan though I'm not really into that, no offense to Jay Chou fans but he spoiled the image of Initial D for me with his movie stint.. the anime is very good though. IIRC there should be a total of five boxes to collect, the one you have posted is the Limited Stage which I am also looking for myself so when I come across one for sale.. sweat.gif sweat.gif Here is four of them:

Agree with all RM$300 for a Tomica Box Set, is really too expensive shocking.gif shocking.gif

From the series, I'd say this 2-car diorama sets a dramatic mood for battle.

Haha.. this happened to me recently too. You know of a Departmental Store called BHG in SG? The twice yearly Super Sale was plastered all over the three floors of the BHG during my visit and when I started to pick up two blister cards and ask for the Disney Tomicas - I was told there would be "NO DISCOUNT".

The sales staff said "The Super Sale? OHHH.. that is for all other departments except this one only".. GRR.. so I just put them all back on the shelves and left empty-handed rclxub.gif

like this also can?
i thought u can make a complaint.
If i am not mistaken, they should sell you the price that they display (for ur case if the color label show 20% discount)
u are not responsible for their store mistake.
Same as item which have no price tag / no way for consumer to find out the price, if you report, government agency will confiscate the item. whistling.gif

Not their fault, it's just that the discount period for the toys department ended yet advertising throughout the store alludes otherwise. The offer is still valid for the rest of the other departments for some reason.. anyway I tell myself no problem, I can always wait or get from elsewhere nod.gif nod.gif

Which Generation, the B120, B210 or B310 Series? Or the popular Datsun Honeybee more commonly known?

Any of these?

Exported as the Datsun 120Y and Datsun B-210 (in North America), the third generation (1973–1978) Sunny was extremely popular as it debuted during the gas crisis of the 1970s.

For general info, do you know you can tell the year of release by looking at the back of the card/box? A single digit would mean which year in the 1990s it was released and to counter the millennium year they added the "0" in front to represent the 2000s. Examples:

Year 1995
user posted image

Year 2007
user posted image

However do take note that because Tomy had produced Tomicas for the longest time, there are many re-use of the car base plates so the markings on the base plates is not 100% accurate. There is also the 3-number set method to keep track of the exact model type.

Introducing yet another money-milking scheme from TomyTakara err.. I mean the Tomica Assembly Factory Series, so far I have collected two sets.

IIRC, you get to pick and choose the body's interior colour to match the colour of your car (which gives rise to the words Assembly Factory) - sometimes they have a 4th special car to boot like the Police bB shown below as example.

yup that would be about correct. a bit too pricey for me. sad.gif i looked at various places, roughly about the same price if you want to get it online. unless someone here can source it out, is it still available on the shelves? i kind of doubt it. sweat.gif

Tomica Limited - a series started by Tomy in 2001 and made for sale to target the more serious collector with greater details and sports realistic-looking wheels with rubberised plastic tires.

This one looks really ordinary and perhaps so because at that time Japanese cars were more of a straightforward 3-box design. There are two nice things we can say about this Soarer i) the intricate wheel design and ii) among the few models where you get the open up the sunroof! notworthy.gif

I agree that imprinted decals would be the order of the day. Perhaps this is due to cost constraints? Yes, some of the Tomica models included a set of decals for some DIY work.. which is also nice in a way wink.gif

Question is: Do you apply the stickers immediately and enjoy the beauty/satisfaction of your work or would you keep them unused/model MINT. Would the value of the item depreciate if they were applied in the future?

PS: Pepperboy: So you get gold rims too nice huh smile.gif

For me, I'll straight away apply the stickers immediately coz I love them! They make the cars that much more authentic, especially brands that we can identify with (Esso, Castrol, Bridgestone, Pirelli, altho Yellow Hat I not so sure is wat)... mayb at most take before and after shots lor tongue.gif The value will depreciate with the decals? I didn't know that... hmm.gif

And yea the gold rims are a nice added touch, since Tomy took the effort to follow the real car smile.gif

@ tkt: The mini DiGi figures still can find ar?

@ kmunz: Nice Honda station! I also planning to get one thumbup.gif But one of ur Honda logo terbalik ler...

TKT: What is YCF Yellow? We don't seem to have the presence of this organisation over here..

ADVedder: Gold rims are normal, was just a casual mention to Pepperboy since he found to his delight that it included decal stickers.

This is another nice yellow though brows.gif

I think most of us know that one of the nicest feature of Tomica Regular Box is that usually it includes some form of moving/opening part like: the doors (opening, casement, sliding, collapsible), bonnet & boot, extensible ladders, leg stands, opening/sliding compartments, satellite dish and so on etc. You can find the special function written on the bottom right of the box (see blue dot in Harrier example)

Translated: here it probably means a rear opening boot (6 golf sets anyone?)

The one below gets pop-up headlamps smile.gif the lever is at the red dot.

Going on to introduce the Lotto Series. By Lotto, it comes from the word Lottery which gives meaning of lucky draw or chance of randomness. From my understanding, collectors would then "tikam" / pick from a case of blind boxes - so essentially you need to "poke" the flap and retrieve a blind box. Some collectors would obviously buy up the entire set instead (Illustrations below)

For myself, as there are so many to back-collect, I had decided to start from Lotto VI onwards which is the popular Auto Salon Set. For Lotto I to V - I only collected what I like and will share them here.

Someone in this Tomica Forum could take lead for group orders using combined shipping.. that's one way out. I do that myself with fellow collectors too. 'Caveat Emptor' in case of any con-man though.. haha laugh.gif

Here's another Red Logo.

A very ordinary looking car and no saving grace on its quality this time. However there are still two notes of interest
I) a completely blood red base plate and
II) back in the good old days like this one - the car specifications are listed at the side of the box. hmm.. this one is a 2.0 DOHC engine with 150PS @ 6400rpm / peak torque of 19.0kgm @ 4800rpm (neat huh!) rclxms.gif

Hello Drummer: I went to dig up this piece and glad to inform the answer is yes. Not only that, but the Trailer separates from the load and the Shinkansen even has wheels to boot! Why do you ask, do you have a customisation idea in mind icon_rolleyes.gif

Haha, thanks for the trouble of digging it up. No I had no creative customization in mind. Just that I thought it would be neat if this particular tomica had not one but two toys that comes together. So now I know that it does. very cool.

dun play play... kena 15.5% on the item will end up very expensive.... brows.gif

but in my opinion, if u shipped in small package and ur item is less than USD100, the possibility to kena will be lower bcoz most of the time, kastam will concern more on big parcel and declare value is high. (real source from ex-colleague who her uncle is kastam officer in Terengganu)

As I face before Parcel below RM300 will be safe but depend on your luck.

If you buy from the wellknow toy shop, sure kena tax but also depend on ur luck

Mostly during festival time, customs not so strict on small parcel (amount <RM300)...

Quite a unique model. Also known as 童夢-零, it was a concept car exhibited at the 48th Geneva Auto Show but the car was never produced. Suppose to be at a whopping retail price of 4,000,000 Yen shocking.gif

Okay last one before zZz... finally stick em' up those stickers. Initial on I thought the model wasn't well moulded due to child safety concerns. With the decals now added it didn't turn out too bad did it? nod.gif

A sports car made by De Tomaso, an Italian marque. The 1974 Pantera GTS was the luxury edition of the Pantera which in Italian means "Panther"; and featured more luxury items and badging with it. Tomica Limited is again superb, even the wheel rims match to a T laugh.gif

This car needs no introduction but the meaning of Countach is interesting..

QUOTE
The word countach is an exclamation of astonishment in the local Piedmontese language - generally used by men on seeing an extremely beautiful woman.  While the term is often considered untranslatable into English, it is essentially equivalent to the British lager lout verbalization "Fwwaaaa". Or, it can also be considered the verbal equivalent of a wolf-whistle (from Wiki)

May I suggest collectors here to take it offline. Create among yourselves a trusted list of personnel - which not only seeks to inform stock arrival, stock availability, helping each other to look out and purchase (due to greater distances in M'sia) & make group orders, but more importantly reduce the effectiveness of scalpers which certainly abound smile.gif

The key word is trusted personnel only - preferably someone you have met in person and know about for some time.

Me 2 cents.

good suggestion to create a trusted list but i still not agree to make group order due to m'sia kastam T_T
once u have large package / expensive item imported, they will hold ur item and the posibility for them to impose tax t you is much more higher. smile.gif
and due to this reason, we cannot tell collector that the price for now is USD10 and later only tell them the price is USD12. Hence, this will resulted dispute smile.gif also, I think it will be quite interesting for collector to buy some / get some item in low price rather than expensive price (tax included) smile.gif

lolz.. ya kena b4.. but not toy.. i kena clothing.. 30% tax cry.gif
thays y sorry for all bro outside that I din take for you guys smile.gif 1 set 4 unit, 2 set = 8unit (scare they pack it too big and resulted my item will hold by kastam). hope you guys understand smile.gif

anyway FYI, if u all order urself, u r paying USD19.50 for 4 Tomica limited which is almost rm18 per unit smile.gif
still worth smile.gif moreover habis in M'sia.. lolz

mayb in future i have enuff money to masuk 1 dozen, then i try to sell here smile.gif but of course untung sikit.. smile.gif

A cute car - the Honda Vamos is a microvan produced by Japanese automaker Honda from 1970 to 1973 sporting only just 360cc. Here is an interesting CLIP on the folding down of the canvass of the car. The more I compare real life and TL rims, the more I think much thoughts and efforts had gone into the production of Tomica Limited cars.. kudos! notworthy.gif

I buy from HLJ b4.. but lucky lar.. no hold by customs although HLJ declare as merchandise. Reliable source told me that customs will hold ur item if ur item declare value is high.. they will hold no matter u declare gift / merchandise / watever.
They will also hold if ur package is big due to they will just hold and ask u come to declare. If finished goods, they tax u.. if unfinish, then they will let u go. This is their process.
but all this happen sometimes la.. means also depen on ur luck

tell info (tax) properly 1st is good smile.gif but if u think after tax the item still worth.. lolz..
in my case, if tax, no point I buy oledi.. lolz.. coz expensive oledi.. brows.gif

The Lotus Europa or Lotus Europe was a two door mid-engined GT coupé built by Lotus Cars from 1966 to 1975. The Special was the enhanced Europa Twin Cam project where Lotus switched to a 126 hp (94 kW) aspirated by Dell'Orto/Weber carburettors version of the same engine; in addition to offering a new Renault 5-speed (Type 365) gearbox option. It weighed 740 kg (1631 lb), had a top speed of 123 mph (198 km/h), did 0–60 mph in 7.0 seconds (from Wiki)

Added on October 16, 2008, 11:57 pmGoing to lay off regular TLs awhile and make way for another Tomica Series - Tomica Limited Vintage (TLV) flex.gif

The TLVs were the creation of Tomytec (owned by TomyTakara) in 2004. The models released are mostly 1950s and 1960s classic Japanese vehicles like Nissan Cedric, Prince Gloria and Toyopet Crown and of very high details even when compared to the Tomica Limited models. The full website containing more information can be found HERE.

Here's one to kick-start the TLVs

Oh yeah, what's the quality like for TLV? I wonder cos I've never seen one. The category has "Limited" in it so I'm assuming they have the quality and finish of the TL range, but yet their box looks like the regular box.

Nice datsun truck Guy!! thumbup.gif

Pic spam time, this is my tomica limited evo, and the evo custom i did recently. No new tomica hauls cos this customization ate up a lotta my time.

A rather popular and populous model, launched in 1958 till 1970, the Subaru 360 sold about 500,000 units. Designed to exploit tax and insurance regulations and exempted from certification that adequate parking was available for the vehicle, it was thus made at 360cc and to fall into the Japanese "keicar" category.

In Japan the 360 was nick-named 'the ladybird' because of its shape.

Guyy: Not really cause you can find them at lower than 1000 Yen a piece. The normal list price from Tomytec is 1260 Yen for a common model and thus not that expensive comparatively with TLs. How about buying a couple to see for yourself their worthiness? icon_rolleyes.gif

Added on October 17, 2008, 10:18 amLoon: Yes was about to bring in the topic of collection display and maintenance but now that you mentioned, for me I've kept all my Tomicas in plastic covers - they come in 3 sizes. So far they are quite useful to keep out dust and protect the items.

1. Regular Box (small)
2. Regular Box (large)
3. Tomica Limited Box (largest)

Do you know there is also a NEO Series within the TLVs, which I loosely translate to mean popular cars made from 1970s and after. So "NEO" here would be post-generation or "NEW" in this sense. It was not mentioned, but I gather this model is a Legacy RS Turbo - the air scoop would be a big clue on the turbo wink.gif

The shipping is ok but it's the toy itself is expensive.

ADVedder: The picture you posted is Tomica Spencer - under the Tomica Thomas & Friend Series. They come in both blister pack and also the box versions (which I collect). They have released it gradually over time so gotta fish out the box to determine which year it was released (out of curiosity why do you need to know the year of release?) You can refer to the link at the TomyTakara webbie for REFERENCE cool.gif

TSQ: Nice footage with new-age borders! cool2.gif

The Toyota Publica was a small car manufactured by Toyota from 1961 to 1978. Conceived as a family car to fulfill the requirements of the "national car concept", it was the smallest Toyota car during that period and later succeeded by the common Toyota Starlet, which itself started out as a version of the Publica. In 1963 Toyota added a new Deluxe trim level which featured reclining seats, heater or radio, as well as some chrome decors.

Here are some of the capsule Tomicas or Junior Tomicas. The RX-7 is the Tin-Can Keychain smile.gif these series are still alive and updated from time to time, but the price per Gashapon Capsule has rose to SGD$2.00 a pop now which I think is not so worth it.

It just came to me that Thomas Train & Friends Series is actually similar to the Disney Series because they are all character-based, though I have come across collectors who would collect one but not the others hmm.gif

Added on October 19, 2008, 1:56 pmQuestion: Should one watermark or copyright the photographs of his/her collection??? hmm.gif hmm.gif

I had always taken the approach that it's a compliment from others of our work when they make use of them in reference and so long they are not using them for a commercial purpose I am okay with it. However, even a casual collector like myself, I wonder if I should adopt this measure early given the ever-increasing no. of photos in my collection. Besides, these labels can be post-processed and removed.

It's gonna look something like below.
